I'm seeing a lot of comments that people are shocked that he doesn't have a factory ride for 2024. He's a back to back outdoor national champ and isn't too bad at SX either.
Let me preface this by saying I really enjoy watching ferrandis ride. He gets me so fired up to go ride.
But I've noticed he has complained several times and made known he isn't comfortable on the bike up until budds creek. So my theory for the reason he didn't get a contract extension is his attitude and behavior.
I think, he's a royal pain in the ass to work with and the team having to bend over backwards to get thus guy comfortable. I think star is tossing their hands up and saying "we're done". I could be totally wrong here but I just get the vibe that they're just tired of working with him and listening to his constant complaining.
Would love to hear from someone that has inside info on why he doesn't have a ride
I'll bite-I've been wondering the same thing for awhile now. He is in his prime (29 I think), and he is faster than Craig, Malcolm, AC, Cooper, and everyone else for the most part after Jett and Chase, outdoors...so relax everyone. His SX results due to injury have not been what they need to be, but it isn't like the guy can't ride SX. I just don't get it. The guy is an animal on a dirt bike. Do I think he is better than Justin on a 450? Yes. Maybe he wore out his welcome at Star but he sure raced his ass off coming back from injury and ended up being the 3rd fastest guy by the end of the year. Dude was on it. I'm a fan.
He doesn’t have a ride because everyone else does, there’s literally no room on any team for him.
I did hear that Star told him that if he could consistently run with Jett and Chase, they would’ve kept him. He had bad luck at a bad time.
Hard to believe a rider as talented as Dylan is without a ride. This is where our sport is failing.
The obvious answer is for GasGas to find the money to add a second bike. I think someone explained why they won't but I can't remember the reason. Hopefully someone can post their reason
Beyond that, I guess is other option is a high end privateer team but I'm drawing a blank on who might have an opening to sign him

Can't someone make room? Money I guess. But, he does have 1 more premier class title than most, so I'd think something's gonna work.
no rides available, or no ride that he wants. I'm not saying that he should, but i'd imagine if he was willing to ride for peanuts on inferior equipment, a ride would be available.
cpl threads on this already. its a real shame.
IIRC, I'm pretty sure there was a bridge burned/some conflict between DF and the KTM group a long time ago that seems to still linger to this day.
I am just taking a shot in the dark here, but if you were offered a job that pays only 33% of your salary from last year, I find it likely that most of us would turn it down. Even more likely if we had been able to save the $ that Dylan has working for him. Hoping for the best for him !
I don't think it's him complaining. He's euro, just tells it as it is. He wasn't comfortable on that bike and still got second in points
33% less is still a hell of a lot better than 100% less.
And again, I wrote "I'm not saying that he should"
he should stay fit and be ready.....hit the circuit in a van and with a plan. Not long ago Barcia was in the same position.
Weege asked Jimmy Button at Iron Man about Ferrandis, Button said Dylan has something for next year. I heard this during the Iron Man pulp wrap up show. 16:15 minutes into the show they talk about Dylan. I just found it. Weege said he talked to Button at Buds Creek.
I agree with this, his results were not quite as good as years past and with Webb and Cooper being signed and Tomac re-signing for another year I bet Star offered Dylan a ride with a major pay cut which would feel like a complete demotion after many years of delivering good rides and titles for Star. Also like said above all the factory rides for next year have been sown up for months. Just bad timing for Dylan after not racing SX and not having one of his best years in MX.
I’ve wondered the same but it is just speculation. He totally deserves a ride. He’s the 2021 outdoor champ and he killed it that year. I think he can turn it around on the right bike and vibe.
Nice.... Good for him. Does anyone have any hints what it is?
“He’s faster than Craig, Malcolm, AC, Cooper, and everyone else for the most part after Jett and Chase”
So he’s faster than these guys, but doesn’t have a ride. The answer is pretty obvious…
he’s either a PITA to work with and/or his payment demands are too high.
Think about it- if his payment demands were Craig level, the Dylan would be on the bike, and not Craig.
I hope Ferrandis ends up on HEP.
Two Suzuki’s regularly in the top 5 against the big factory teams would be epic, but mostly because he may enjoy racing again. Worked for Roczen.
Pit Row
We've (including ML's detailed opinion) already been over all this like ten times -including why he'd not go to Gas Gas...
No MXoN for Dylan.
Once again, nothing new...
Like Sean Collier once said - rider in, rider out.. 2021 AMA 450 Champ, returns after injury, gets 2nd(!) in 2023 and got no ride for 2024. It's f up to say at least..
I don’t think the sports necessarily failing, I just think we are seeing a major shift in how long top guys are delaying retirement.
here’s my dumb observation: I do think that nowadays, if you are racing in the lawrence era you need results but you also need to have a stick to captivate fans. Id pay to watch AP for example even if he was putting around in 10th. His personality is addicting. Or Phill. I’d be willing to bet if you got phill and DF to walk through pit row together phills would have fans around him like flys on horse shit. The same can be said about KR, AP, Bam etc. Dirtbike racing is a circus where the racing is a very small portion of the draw to the sport I spend wayyy more time watching vlogs, pods etc… it’s rare for me to spend more then an hour and a half watching the race every weekend. I spend hours upon hours following all the media
if your consistently finishing 15+ seconds behind the leader you NEED a personality/ brand
I look at it as Star chose Webb over Ferrandis. I'm sure Justin Cooper's (3rd) 450 spot on the team is not paying nearly what Dylan was willing to sign for.
Couldn't have said it better! 🤜🤛
Also I want to add, ferrandis said in a interview after ironman. He said "I'll talked to some teams but I'm waiting for the best opportunity" so that kinda tells me he's wanting to be on a top tier team like HRC, KTM, or factory Kawi.
Because I bet HEP suzuki has offered him a spot, or club mx has likely offered him a ride. But I think ferrandis knows his worth and should be on a top team
Not in SX. In the US supercross is the main priority.
There's no room on any team for him at this point because they all hired riders not named Ferrandis for '24:
KTM - New contracts for Sexton and AP
Kawi - New contract for Anderson
Star - New contracts for Webb, Cooper and Tomac
Husky - New contract for Mookie
GasGas - New contract for Barcia
The only factory spots locked down going into '24 were Cianciarulo, Craig and Jett.
Good for DF and knowing his worth. He is a top 5 guy in my opinion and I'm sure not hurting for money. Someone will find room for him soon.
Wasn’t there a rumour going around the the Lommel GP he was looking for a ride in MXGP?
Post a reply to: No ride for Ferrandis?
