An interesting topic...
Obviously I understand that this sport isn't Nascar and the reach of marketing $ has a ceiling. BUT, what brands do you think SHOULD be involved in some of the factory teams?? Some of these have come and gone, or tried and failed...
I've always thought Caterpiller and Bobcat would be cool sponsors of a team individually. After all, literally every machine is one of these or New Holland on the tracks...
What other companies do you think should be here if Money/marketing weren't the gateway?
Busch light, Toyota, Carhart.
Milwaukee
RedBull KTM in MXGP is partnered with Milwaukee.
Gatorade
The Shop
Free shipping: VITALMX
DeCal Works Huge Plastic Inventory of UFO and Polisport kits.
Luxon 4-Post Bar Mounts
$189.95 - $239.95
In my case: Johnson and Johnson
Dunkin’ or crispy creme.
Depends...
Nice. I'm a total junkie for their cordless tools.
It's a fit, but heavy equipment rental businesses do sponsor races and probably hit the right market for the MX audience and its economies. The actual manufacturing companies probably have bigger fish to fry and don't need to advertise as much out of the trade unless they have a strong line of consumer products.
Perfect match to me.
I know some of these do or have but Wd40, Simple Green, EZUp, Yeti, Generac, Publix, Craftsman, Shell, Wells Fargo, Colt, Glock, New Holland, ...
Someday it seems it might be Microsoft, Tesla, Ticktock, pampers, Crayola and Disney 🤣
Is Surf still on board with anybody? If not, that’s a no brainer… as well as every other laundry detergent out there. How about real energy supplements?….not “energy drinks.” Exercise equipment….a Concept rower sponsorship…Tonal, or whatever those wall-mounted exercise things are. They have a big hit with LeBron and Serena, but what if motocrossers saw Eli using one of those things?
Weege had wd40 as an advertisement on his latest racerX podcast. Maybe that’s a start.
Coca-Cola and Pepsi are no-brainers.
Lots of sponsors from parallel sports make sense too: Shimano, SRAM, and all the MTB frame manufacturers, for instance. Backpacking, hunting, fishing, kayaking brands. Automotive engine tuners, wheel manufacturers, etc.
HEP Suzuki team has been WD-40 for about three years.
Bud Light
And that right there is why it's hard to bring in outside sponsors....
DEEZ NUTS
Pit Row
Motts applesauce
Gumout
Tuff boots are literally perfect for east coast am races and when pros do track walk in SX
Surprised there aren't more insurance companies involved. Especially creating new leads in the pits through competitions etc. Money for jam.
A laundry detergent brand. Would be a great alignment / advertising content (Partner with TLD to make super vivid clean looking gear) thousands used surf for for years after they sponsored Glass.
A family owned lumber brand (that has nationwide distribution) that wants thousands of super loyal customers forever
I made up some renderings for a local team that Had Jimmy Albertson and Jimmy Decotis riding for them at one point. They had me do a Dunkin Donuts, They had a small deal with the NE Patriots for a couple races. I did Apple, a bunch of companies. The Marines was a fun render to do. I'll try and dig up some of them. It was from between 08 and 2011 or so. So the renders are not at the same level as what can be done these days.
Specialized mountain bikes sponsor a ton of riders and teams and all my non MTB moto buddies know specialized bikes. Especially at GNCC races where Ebikes are super popular there is a TON of specialized bikes. They also have their ebikes in motorcycle dealerships, smart.
I went to Jack in the Box a lot more when they were sponsoring Mike LaRocco.
The sport is full of blue collar entrepreneurs so I think heavy equipment manufacturers and or financial arms of those companies, payroll/accounting software companies, and other professional services could be a viable fit.
For obvious reasons.
Beat me to it.. the fans of the sport don't even know who is sponsoring the teams lol.
Whoever comes up with a new effective way to influence people to buy these sponsors products will become rich, but honestly seeing Monster on Elis bike does NOT make me want to buy one.. Pastrana talking bout Black Rifle coffee did make me try it only because it brought awareness that they even existed.
I really think the smaller lesser known companies would benefit the most from advertising in moto, but they often do not have the dollars to spend like a Caterpillar or Red Bull/Monster. There again, pay $200,000 for a few stickers and signs on one team OR $200,000 for millions of views on social media marketing that is highly focused to a certain core group that will most likely be interested in your product..
Why? Because neither of us knew they were sponsored by WD40? A quick glance at images available of the team and bikes and I don’t see WD40, I could be missing it. Not saying ML doesn’t know what he’s talking about, it’s just that it must be a small sponsorship if I can’t locate them on their gear or bikes kinda defeats the purpose.
WD40 is on their partners section of their website beside Twisted development and Pro Circuit, and on Chizs helmet and it is the top sponsor listed on the sleeve of their teams shirts. But that is the point, WD40 pays something to be a sponsor and its not clear. So how effective is the sponsorship to WD40?
Don't feel bad.. I didn't know they were a sponsor either until ML mentioned it. Just proves how crappy the moto advertising is.
Post a reply to: Brands that SHOULD be sponsoring motocross and why....
