Triumph September, maybe?

Triumph if you cant beat them join them. Yamaha frame and KTM engine. 

If this is a KTM engine, then that changes my enthusiasm for this bike. Making an effort to not buy anything KTM related just because. 

My guess, somebody else wanted to break the news.

It would make my day if people keep posting the picture and Mav has to keep taking it down. 

Not even funny how much of a KTM clone that it. If they building engine from scratch like said they have known the Yam spec has been dominant for nearly a decade

I can’t understand people already crying the engine looks too much like the KTM engine, like wtf is the matter with you?

In this class there is nothing better engineered and for sale by a stretch then the KTM 250F platform. The head, crank design, gearbox and the clutch are better than any japanese offering and maintance intervals are superior, as are raw power and torque.

If I understand correctly they bought a stock 250F from every brand and also got their hands on a championship bike from Tom Vialle. With keeping in mind which people are involved with this project (Former KRT in Europe / Bobby Hewitt in the US) you can tell they don’t take anything for granted. Both from a sales / consumer perspective as from a racing perspective.

It’s an extremely bad look.   Especially since the gaffe was on their end and on YouTube for all to see.  My post was deleted as well.   

I’m guessing they wanted to get ahead of the “looks like a KTM” narrative from the get-go and this thumbnail is throwing a wrench in those plans.

If anyone wants to see the engine, just go to their YouTube channel.  A clear pic of the engine is still there.  I guess that's intentional, and VitalMX has cooperated with their demands to remove said picture from this site.

Remember when Suzuki made arguably the best 250 two-stroke at the time by mimicking the Yamaha engine and pairing it with their chassis? If the wheel already exists, no need to try and reinvent it when there's already a wheel that's tried, tested and true. Usually when we we'd see a new brand enter the mix and they tried to completely reinvent the motocross bike, it failed spectacularly. I believe Yamaha still holds some patents on their engine/intake design that wouldn't allow a reversed engine to work as well without infringing on those patented designs. 

To me, it doesn't look like just a KTM 250f motor with a different clutch cover so I'm assuming it still is their own motor from the bottom to the top which was probably heavily built/designed/inspired around an existing and proven engine design. Creating a solid platform from scratch would be foolish without examining which aspects makes each individual bike great. In my opinion, as long as you do that without infringing on any patents, fair game and then you can continue to grow from there.

Haha 😂 I was thinking the air filter bolt and the decision to use a metric wing nut instead of a universal. They’re probably up late discussing it as we speak. 

They could choose to not use metric fasteners, to differentiate their bike, from every other motocross bike on the market.

Isn't ktm tiny compared to Triumph? I'm thinking if it's a near-clone, then Triumph thinks ktm design is top-notch.

No. Ktm group sold 375k Mc last year. Triumph about 85k

To me it looks like they did the early testing with KTM engines to develop the chassis. Then they started to design the engine package, kept the mounting positions to not influence their chassis development and when the time came to design the engine Covid/Brexit/StarkPreSales/whatever came around the corner, budget got reduced and they just copied the damn thing. 

If they have copied the KTM, spare parts shouldn't be an issue!

Those Chinese companies that sell KTM rip-offs should take a look at Triumph! They’re doing a much better job than them.. almost indistinguishable!

How they got Vialles bike in hands? I would think KTM wanted to keep their top machines away from market for some years until development goes forward? 

When we get to December and we still haven't seen it, maybe they could do it like an advent calendar and drop a new part every day... December 14th: inline fuel filter, December 15th: throttle tube, etc etc...

Hope they do crack on and show us the thing September 5th, seems reasonable now the frame and engine are out there.

Yeah, but, you gotta ask, how does it effect performance, looking like something else?   If the design base is good, use it for inspiration.   There's only so many design configurations possible in our bikes engines, this is one that works.  Run with it.  Let's welcome a new player, rather than shitting on everything they do.  Most comments here are negative, from children.  Grow up, Triumph is having a bit of fun, let 'em have it.   Next, let's see the USA build a bike!   Congrats to the Brits for stepping up to the plate, best of luck to them!

Agreed entirely, they're making a four stroke, single cylinder, motocross engine, there's only so much they can do.

Granted the main castings look very KTM, but I'm not really seeing it as a negative and still excited to see the bike.

 All this waiting and secrecy and they’ve produced a FakeTM.

I hope they produce a great bike, but I also hope for some innovation! Something new line VVT or so.

For all you guys that say „there‘s only so much you can do with a fourstroke single cylinder motocross engine…“. Remember that Triumph is the company that designed EFI throttle bodies that resembled carburetors just to give their bike a unique look and built a hugh inline three cruiser engine to set themselves apart from the Harleys of the world.

So yes, it is disappointing that they just produced a KTM clone! The expectations were certainly higher than that. 

After all the drama, they did go back in and edit the YouTube image...  Rather funny if you ask me.
