Masterpool’s bike?

I'd bet most of the privateers don't have spare engines? Unless something has drastically changed in the last year or two, it's pretty hard to make a living at this sport, much less enough for spare engines. He's doing this with his parents and a mechanic, my guess is this is a pretty low budget effort compared to even a privateer team? If Kawasaki has any business sense at all, they should be helping him (a lot) for the rest of the year! 

...most true privateers don't have back up motors just sitting around from what I know,  especially for a normally reliable 450 - they just have their practice bike or even a parts bike just to cannibalize.

A motor by itself normally has to be bought piece by piece and assembled, I don't think any OEM sells stock complete motors anymore?  the cost would be more than a new stock bike of you had to buy and assemble one from parts. 

Assuming they had a second bike with them, maybe they thought the primary bike was healthy enough to use in the second moto, or maybe they didn't have enough hands to help change the thing out in time?  Its a little over an hour and fifteen minutes from the finish of the first moto to needing to have your bike and rider in the staging area for moto 2...

I'm sure we'll know the story soon enough...

He's podium caliber for sure.  I'm a fan.

If he doesn't get some sort of support after running top 3 and having an engine failure I'll have lost hope for some of those people under the Kawi tent. He also said he made some changes for moto 2 and felt even better then moto 1.

As a sidenote, I hope he lands a factory ride next year.  

I'm pretty solid with a wrench and I don't think I could swap a 4T 450 alone in 30 minutes. 2t it's possible but I'd be stressing and it'd all have to go right.

I'd bet almost no privateers have spare engines. Clutches, chains, sprockets, maybe a wheel set perhaps?

It’s an absolute embarrassment on Kawasaki’s part to let this happen. I get they can’t financially do anything for him right now, but christ……Masterpool has been the best Kawi rider on the track for weeks now and they didn’t even have the foresight to make sure he was getting the parts he needed to keep the race bike in good shape. 

Takes a mechanical DNF that most likely cost him, and Kawi, a top 5 this weekend for them to get “involved” and toss him a spare motor. 

I highly doubt time was a factor in not changing the engine. 40 minutes is plenty of time.
Good to hear Kawi came to the party, though surprised it didn’t happen sooner.

Watched Jett’s mechanic swap an engine between motos at Unadilla last year. They did a lot of work on hunters as well. Was pretty cool to watch. They also have the tv on in the background with the race on so I was still watching the race

Slightly of topic, but who was the last privateer to run so far up front on stock bikes?!

Per the schedule 1 hour and forty minutes between end of Moto 1 and sight lap for Moto 2.

This was a good look for a Kawasaki until it wasn't somebody on the marketing side needs to look forward!

Kawi should be embarrassed.

Really? I am going out on a limb and saying he had at least 4 races on it, plus time at twisted?

That's about double the life expectancy for a top 5 guy.

Have to be in staging for moto 2 earlier than that, plus the privateer pits are not near the starting area like the factory rigs are. 

it’s possible to do in the time frame, but not with one mechanic  doing the washing  AND motor change out.

 
also,  if they had a spare motor, it was probably in a spare bike, and not ready to go in a cool slide out drawer like team Kawasaki has in their transporter. 

unless that motor completely shit the bed in Moto 1 I wouldn’t  change it either and risk missing the moto 2 start.   Bike looked strong for 2 laps…

You're not getting the point that somebody at Kawasaki should have kept that bike running for him I understand the hours!

hmm... Twisted does ClubMX motors too right?....

I am stoked for him on his performances and hope he keeps killing it but it seems to me there has to be a reason he doesn't have a ride and can't keep the rides he has had. 

If my son is getting top 10s he’s getting a new crank every week.   Imagine one letting go on these jumps….

I've never understood why manufacturers don't have support van or something for privateers. Keep your factory team as is but have something separate where you have plenty of parts available at cost or to loan and a mechanic or two to at least offer guidance and sometimes help with something like this when needed. I bet you could even find a dealership in the area of each track to sponsor it and bring some bodies. I'd think it would get a lot of guys on your bike if they knew they had this support available. More $$$ than it's worth to them I guess but I can dream. 

is it really true that it was a stock motor that blew up?

For me, Masterpool has the essence of what Moto is. Grit. Damned, he should have been up there.  Am pissed.

Are you going to buy it?

 100% things are a little confused they have a training facility but they can't afford spare Motors🤷‍♂️

I am curious how you all think these guys should get a spare motor? Race bike, practice bike, parts bike? Is anyone selling spare motors? And then the service you contract with to haul your bike, do they just haul crates of spare parts for you as well? Didn't masterpool lose his van within the last couple weeks? Just put the engine in a bag and check it with delta? 

Some must not understand a racing budget lol. It's not a blank check folks.
