No fake news here, DV himself explained it on his facebook page.
Mitch Payton called him in October in order to train Forkner to relaunch his career and also to prepare him for the 450.
DV spent a good day with Forkner, Mitch and few big boss from Kawi at the track but eventually he called off the deal because he already gave M.Musquin his green light to train him for his last 450 season...DV said it's hard to do a good job on the training side with two full time riders.
IMO It's a shame the deal didn't happen, we all saw what DV did with Ferrandis in the 250 and i'm sure it could have been a real benefit change for Forkner.
Maybe next year DV ?
Not a good match.
Adding someone with knowledge, experience and intelligence is a good match for any program.
Forkner needs a change of scenery
Interesting, why would you come to that conclusion? Both too hard headed?

Mitch ain't no dummy and DV has proven his worth as a coach/mentor so there's no doubt he would be able to help Forky.
"reality of speed" show and document if it ever happens

Austin was in.
I had wondered why DV didn't do it but this explains it. Good info. For all the crap DV gets from certain people, his loyalty is admirable!
That would have been a great duo. Mitch knows what he’s doing.
So after spending a full day with Forkner he remembered he was/is already training Marv?
Would be smart for DV to line up work next year after Marvin retires.... so he makes a deal with Austin and they wait.
Yeah, - After MP tells him what's expected of him. "oh wait, dang, I already have a job"
Payton > some vital guy
DV doesn't need to work.
"DV said it's hard to do a good job on the training side with two full time riders."
So I guess Ferrandis and DV aren’t working together this year?
Who doesn't sugar coat anything either. Now would DV run into problems with wife or family that wants to have a say? There are way more dynamics than what happens between rider and trainer.
Mitch was willing to give up some big money for a title.
Has Forkner ever worked with Nick Wey?
Pit Row
Much respect to DV and his training abilities.
I don't see it as a good match only because of Forkner....
This sport is absolutely brutal.
Austin will be pushing into his mid/late twenties before he races again. He certainly has the speed to pick up a regional SX championship, but is he the guy you dig into the pockets to invest in at this point?
Yes because of riding his bike into the back of another bike would not happen on another team.

^^^ One of the all time GREATEST movies.
Newman was such an awesome actor.
Well they'd have a good time chatting about politics
Such a bummer that didn’t happen…DV could work wonders with Austin. What’s he gonna do for marv? No shot at battling for a title this year, and he won a race last year. he’s not doing any better than that this year even if everything goes perfect IMO.
Perhaps star? I know bobby regan really wanted to sign him as amateur. I could see them signing him
Forkner is way too emotional and sensitive to work with someone like DV.
PC Kawasaki Observation
Their last 2 SX titles were 6 years apart. Maybe this is the year they grab another one.
2011: Broc Tickle
2017: Justin Hill
2023: Jo Shimoda?
Would be pretty cool.
For where AF is in his career this might have been the change he needed - there always next year 👍
