To me, 2035 is when the sport dies. Down vote me I don’t care.

KHI (Kawasaki Heavy Industries) and Kawasaki Motors are now two separate entities as of October 2. Now the motorcycle/powersports company has committed to 10 new electric models by 2025 and their ENTIRE range will be electric by 2035.

Ready to rumble? Kawasaki motorcycles to go all electric by 2035

I take it you didn't buy Abbott stock when they spun out abbvie?

People are gonna be pretty shocked when they see the rear of a f150 lightening when it launches from a traffic light.

Gas and diesel is well on the way for obsolescence, and that's looking at performance not environment

I think most understand the torque electric vehicles can produce. That’s besides the point. Moto loves the sound, smell, and rawness. Not exactly exciting listening to a little chain slap around with a high pitch noise

Gonna be some empty stadiums. Mind you the health and safety crew will make MX very difficult by then. When you can hear the bones snapping rather than them being drowned out by the engines, you might find people start to become a tad more risk averse Smile (It's already happening to some extent).

Formula 1 is fighting tooth and nail to move to something other than electric hence major investment in new 'sustainable fuels'. They know what the focus groups and surveys are saying. Electric motorsport people are few and far between and they ain't gonna be spending big money. Sound and smell are so fundamental to human emotion.

Not sure many really understand the shift in psychology that comes with these kind of commitments. It's apocalyptic for motorsport. The culture that we have will be decimated. I don't say this lightly.

That's like saying "this piece of tasteless food is actually full of vitamins".

Nah bro I want something that TASTES good.

Or "this guitarist can play 100 notes per second isn't it amazing"

Yeah, but I'd just want to listen to some rock music mate

The state I live in (NJ) tried to open riding areas but were shot down over noise. I grew up on smokers, but if e-bikes allow more riding cause they're quiet, I'm all for it

They won't be open if electric only either. Plans will be shut down for environmental destruction and danger.

On a related topic, the grand poohbah Newsome signed executive order N-79-20 mandating all California public fleet vehicles be 100% electric by 2035. Starting 2025 50% of all replacement purchases must be electric.
I could go on but what's the point. Its going l happen world wide weather you like it or not, even in Texas.

If they can get the battery range up to a 6 hour ride day (whether one battery or a quick replace multi battery set up) Is be all for electric dirt bikes…I just worry it will kill off road (not just racing, but trail riding). I’m a fan of the simplicity and power delivery of ebikes…I’d buy one now if the range and performance are up to par (my son loves his EE-5)…

And l may be in the minority…and maybe I’m getting old…but I got so annoyed at the noise at the SLC SX last year I almost left early…so I wouldn’t mind a supercross with e bikes, so I can answer my wife and kids questions about the race without shouting at the top of my lungs, hear myself think, and not have to bring ear plugs for the kids.

I just don't really get it, recreational / competition motorcycles are an absolutely miniscule drop in the ocean as far as fuel consumption and all the resulting nasties that upset Greta and the polar bears...

Shit they'd make more pollution moving the bikes to the track than the bikes make going round it, and where do they think batteries come from and how do we charge them again??

All seems like a lot of half truths and half thought out ideas. I bet electric bikes will be fun, and it'll be sweet to never have Karens complain about noise, but fuck letting them entirely replace 'real' bikes.

I'm old school but love technology and love riding dirt bikes. I was also a Regional Manager at Alta and now work for Kawasaki.

I'm willing to bet that every person that has a negative opinion about an electric motocross bike has never ridden one. The only way you are going to know if you like an electric motocross bike is the ride one.

I started on a QA-50 to Z50 to racing an XR75 in 1973. Turned pro in 1980 and have had almost 100 bikes. The Alta was absolutely the most fun bike I have ridden.

My reasons why my Alta was the most fun bike to ride...

-Cornering was amazing. Although heavier than a 450, it felt more like a 250 weight wise. Alta did a study about rotating mass and found that the rotating mass of a 450 motor is equal to 90lbs. When corning an Alta it stays planted and did not what to stand up when accelerating.
-Always in the right gear. Never over revved, never bogging.
-Not a riding benefit, but I LOVED not having to ever clean an air filter or change oil.

My only complaint was the battery range. I raced my 3 times. 6 holeshots with 4 moto wins and 2 close 2nd's. I actually changed bikes between motos. These were Texas Summer motocross races with temps in the 90's. The battery didn't have enough time to cool off between motos and charging the battery puts heat in the battery. So I would use one of my demo's for one moto, and another one for the second moto.

I've done hundreds of test rides while at Alta and every one of them came off the bike with a huge smile on their face. Isn't that the reason we ride?

Gas powered bikes have 12-15 pounds of gas very high up on the bike. I could see electric bikes having a very low center of gravity, compared to gas bikes.

Also, more equal racing with e bikes in the lower classes. I think most people would have a totally stock bike, considering that 'mods' would probably sacrifice range.

Its kinda crazy that this is 14 years away... 14 years ago, smart phones didn't exist and now 80% of the planet have one.

I stop on red and I leave on amber
Danger paves my way
I'm gonna make it my friend
Gonna make it today
Gonna kick this dust from my heels
Down the highway I go
Gonna get the stars from my route
Make it in a rock and roll show

It will be interesting to see if Elon's comments spark new debate and legislation on this topic. He seems to have a rather large cult like following these days.

It is really interesting the reason a lot of people think we are going electric is for the environment. Plugging in your car every night and using a ton of electricity that comes from where? I just bought my son a KTM E 5 and I’m all for it. I think it will make things safer and more consistent. But it won’t do shit for the environment.
Wrong. Electricity is magic. An endless supply of it comes from the unicorns that Gavin Newsom is breeding in his backyard. And it's free, just like healthcare, college tuition and basic income.

Nope, because they both create CO2 and both require a lot of energy and resources to produce

I don’t think electric vehicles are the answer environmentally. I can see the performance advantages.
It seems like current battery technology is environmentally unsustainable.
What does Tesla do with bad batteries?

Seems like all products will eventually become iPhone/smart phones everything will be tracked and on grid.

If kawi are doing it everyone is or will do it at the same time.

Nothing to do with emissions imo, how do you make electricity? How do you create these machines and their batteries,it's about tracking/control imo.

That said these bikes will be better than the current bikes.

Do you expect that people will have a huge smile when watching a race full of e bikes?

I am actually quite optimistic that i would like the riding part (never race an alta), and would love the ability to race nearby home without the noize issues. But watching a race without the sounds? Im pessimistic about that.
