Tomac to Yamaha?

You know RV retired with Kawi right? I’d hardly say he was pushed out

Kawasaki would’ve signed RV up for 4 more years if he wanted it. Once Fisher was fired, he started disliking management.

I don't know bro. I mean, people that want you to stay don't make you want to leave.

But hey, I guess I can see your logic that RV was so happy racing for the US Kawi team that he decided he would rather fly 18 hours to Thailand to race in 110 degree weather on a hand dug track with no fans, than spend his retirement year racing in air conditioned stadiums in front of all his fans.

Don't AC and Tomac not necessarily like each other? Seems like I've read about stuff all the way back to mini days that they didn't want to be teammates etc.?

Am I imagining that?

Maybe Kawi didn't make as strong of an offer as Tomac wanted since they were more concerned about keeping AC happy?

I don't know about any childhood beefs, but don't really see how it's even possible, given their age gap.

Just saw that too. Crazy. It’s funny how Tuesday this was a weird rumor that kinda made sense but still had room for skepticism, and now it’s a sure thing.

I called BS on it immedietly, I'm no insider but from the outside looking in it seemed pretty cozy over there at Kawi! How wrong was I...

Holy crap, someone admitted they were wrong!! Bravo my friend, bravo.

And for the record seemed crazy when first mentioned but here we are.

So that leave AP out? To KTM?

Mookie?

Good on Kawasaki for at least acknowledging it, usually with these things they play dumb until it's officially announced.

Honestly it plays in the favor of all riders looking for a ride to contact them etc. they then can make the best decision for themselves

Yeah this is what i was thinking too, if you look back at my post history i mentioned when AC signed with Kawi for 450s that Cole Gress talked on Pulp about how he tried getting AC to Suzuki as an amateur and Tomac put up a fuss about it and would switch if he wasn't the main guy. I had a feeling that them being on the same team probably wouldn't work out for too long!

With the talk of MCR potentially pulling out is there any possibility of Bobby Hewitt taking over the setup to form his proposed Honda team? Or would they just pack up shop and go to AX as rumoured? Next season is going to be interesting to say the least!

The big question at this stage, is will Tomac’s Star Yamaha have a #1 on it next outdoors?

I don't really get how they would be competing for "top dog". Tomac was on a Supermini by the time AC left 65s.

I actually find this encouraging in that it seems like Eli making a change like this shows that he isn’t just content to be a dad and enjoy his money and titles as is so often implied on here in the “What’s wrong with Tomac?” threads. Why make this kind of change if you aren’t serious about contending again? I haven’t read everything but I can’t see Star having deeper pockets than Kawi.

Seriously, this seems to be a further change as a result of energy drink money than motorcycle brand money. Seems like the key might have been the Monster contract, then select you flavor of Mx bike that we sponsor. How long is Monsters sponsorship contract with Kawasaki? Wonder how that relationship is?
Tomac is leaving Factory Kawi not because of the bike, but the team. That team hasn't had Eli happy for a couple years now...

"Mutually deciding not to pursue a contract extension"

Really? I don’t buy this above. This is some PR spin on the whole situation. I suspect Kawi was caught flat footed when he signed with someone else as the two were talking.

What actually happened… I have no clue. But I did take note of Eli’s attitude when he was at the podium in Salt Lake to get the 3rd place metal they gave out to him for the series. Go back and watch it. He had this irked attitude about him. More so then normal. And he didn’t say anything. His body language to me said “3rd place… this is bullshit…. Whatever”. I got the vibe that he was pissed… not done racing… irked. If he was done racing and burnt he would have been more like shrugging his shoulder as in “it is what it is…”. But that’s not the attitude I saw. It was more of a "yea... not cool.. not happy". If you're burnt you're happy it's over!

Maybe what was behind that was frustration with getting stuff he wanted. Didn’t villo complain about how tough it was at kawi to get changes made? I believe when he went to the GP’s there were some issues about getting certain things he liked/had on his US bike that he couldn’t get for the GP’s. When a company fights internally…. And the best ideas don’t win, that’s a bad situation. Villo also said something to the effect that he would have been around longer racing if he made a change earlier. I took that to mean leaving kawi for a different culture.

I think saying "you had your chance... I tried multiple times.... but you wouldn't listen"... and a big smile would be just great.

Don't you just love large corporation BS with folks in charge of stuff because they know someone.. or just kiss a mean butt. LOL.

I worked around this stuff for years in Silicon Valley. I can only imagine what takes place on these teams.

I would imagine part of the deal would be him being able to keep his career mechanic.

Maybe that third place thing is what ticked him go with Star. He said eff it, if these guys let me change everything to my personal preference then I'm going with them - I'll rather lose trying my own way.

Think about how many dnfs that team has given him.

Weird brake issues, engine let go leading red bud, double dnf in the mud, and more I’m sure I’m forgetting.
