I fast forward anytime he’s on. Even if it’s the middle of the race. Give Blair the mic and don’t bring this dude back.

Bunch of snowflakes in here perpetuating cancel culture.

lol ok.

So they're breaking the law then? Something must be done to force people to be nice?

Rutledge loves to say "what if you're wrong?" to try to impose his narrative.
Ok, so maybe it's wrong that Rutledge wants to grow the sport.
Because it makes absolutely no sense to have such a mismatch
of a whiney, soy boy image like Rutledge in Supercross.
It's possible that NBC/Feld simply wanted access to his 1/2 million+ social media followers
to attract advertising dollars to their NBCSN bottom line. Any new Supercross fans? LOL

I'll agree with that. Instead of Rutledge or any of the other filler segments we've been given, what if they had Weege, Jt$ and Matthes doing something like this after the heat races. They'd give new fans the insight they would need to make our races more interesting. Casual fans probably don't even notice the flaggers or pit boards.

How dare you have a good idea.

6 days later on this thread and Vital still delivers on the funniest topic in awhile! I am still laughing so hard on the great commentary! I have been introduced to a few new descriptives for Mr. Rutledge. (Fucktwit) Carry on gentlemen.

I like him and welcome people crossing over from other things into our sport. Like him or not, he is more famous than Supercross and can only help us.

But some of us are clearly too cool for him and our sport needs to only be core track rats. That's what I'm reading here. We've got the best ever on the broadcast and how much shit did so many moto bros still give RC for the first few years he was sharing the booth? Some people can't ever be pleased and they really like to tell people about it.

Look it or not, Rutledge was right when he said the core fans are going to watch the race no matter what. We don't need to cater to them. We need to cater to the people who don't know what's going on. Top Gear was successful because I watch it because I like cars and my girlfriend watches it with me because she likes the banter between the guys. You need to satisfy both sides.
Interesting - He doesn't even understand top gear.

The top gear formula for success has been NOT trying to cater to the masses They had the best film imagery on TV, The absolute best locations on the planet, cars you could relate to in one way or another and they couldn't give a crap about appeal to the mass...this combination is exactly why the real Top Gear became the most watched show on the planet. I'm talking about the original Clarkson, May Hammond top gear, not the flop spinoff that Rutledge was in

The last part is such a bad argument. The core fans are going to watch anyway so who gives a shit whether they actually enjoy the product we put out on TV or not? It’s such a poor attitude and no other sport in the world does it. Get someone on TV who can accurately describe what the riders are doing and why, then the viewers will gain a greater understanding of the sport and more appreciation for the skill level required to compete. That’s what will keep them coming back. Anything that they don’t understand past that they will research for themselves if they are interested
731chopper wrote:

You don't need to satisfy both sides with the current setup. The casual fan isn't paying to watch so the amount of casual fans actually tuning in currently is virtually nil. DV was spot on, the only way pandering to the casual fan works to "grow the sport" is if you have free viewing and advertise the shit out of it.

Rutledge sucks...

I finally listened to the segment and all I pretty much heard Buttledge Woods say the whole segment was “I’m not insecure YOU’RE insecure” as DV told him to get over himself. I had no qualms with the guy before but he definitely proved he is a dildo.

I’m very disappointed at how much mathes defended him and acted like dv was being too mean.

Rutledge is a joke. It’s a shame that it isn’t surprising that they would bring someone that terrible in though.

Calls motocross fans insecure. Then instantly goes on to say it was the lads in England who got Top Gear cancelled. Was nothing to do with him or his show . I think most people already know that .it Seems like something an insecure person would say .
Goes on to say to DV , " but what if your wrong " without ever considering that he could be wrong .

Seemed like he spent 8 mins solid talking about himself without stopping.

I did nt care about what he does on the broadcast. But the guy is a complete PRICK , ASSHOLE, DICKHEAD aren't enough words

I'll see your Rutledge take (keep him out there) and raise you at least 2 live segments during Peacock's no commercial breaks. Sorry NBCSN viewers.

The downtime (during commercials) could be used for anything technical or not (Webb just changed his clutch lever, in the pits stuff, or on the track stuff).

And no, not Rutledge doing these segments. Could be Matthes or Weege, something like that.

As DV said, hard core fans (for the most part) signed up/pay for Peacock for the extra (RDL, all 17 rounds live, etc.). These commercial break live content segments could be gold for the subscriber base fans and NBC. In the limited time that there is for a live show and the rushed field reporter segments, something like this would work.. It's a win-win.. Satisfies both sides. Change my mind.

The above would truly be awesome.

....but our sport doesn't have the budget to pay our legends like they do for NFL guys.

They would get SX money, not NFL money.
Not to state the obvious, but SX and NFL are in two different universes.

I actually really liked the USA Top Gear, first season was a bit shaky but it was pretty good IMO.

The Aussie version on the other hand... Holy shit that was bad.

That's what I was thinking. NBC could take the production money that was used to pay for Rutledge's salary, Makup to Mud, or the Science of Supercross, and pay these guys.

The viewer would get more relevant, exciting information about the race we are currently watching. It would be like the Racerx race review podcast in real time.

Y'all really think Matthes should've gone all nuclear napalm on this guy?

He has to work and live in the business. Too many of you all think you can just going around being the national enquirer and rip everyone to shreds and "exposing" everything.

This guy may have been an asshole, but he does work for and is likely on the show due to, Feld, the people you need to be nice to so they will issue you credentials.

Y'all know press credentials aren't a right, right?

Drop a bomb on Kawasaki, no more access to the team and its riders...and yes, they'll get plenty of publicity without being on the show or on your web page. How are you going to talk about the race and not the guy who won? You won't be allowed to interview the race winner. See the point?

It's the same with Feld, drop a bomb on them and your job can become very difficult.

When no one in the pits or show office will trust you, getting access and information and having sources can dry up

We have known this for a while, it is why there is no actual journalism in this sport. Everyone walks on egg shells so they can get their free coffee and interviews. Not knocking it, just the way it is in a small sport.

Rutledge is a turd. Did not care what he had to say on screen. Watched the Pulp clip, and my god what a pompous butthole. No one cares that you are reporting SX....Dude thinks he's got a Rick James style aura, wrong...

DV is my favorite but damn you guys are brutal. I'd rather have KDUB or MC or anyone or insert retired rider here but DV went so hard I almost felt bad for the guy.

DV's my hero.
No one's better at looking bored, contemptuous, lifting his eyes to the heavens while shaking his head in disbelief, lol...
"Man, in all honesty, when you talk on TV, I go take a leak" (or was it a dump?)...
Huge.

We insecure guys all know the problem is not popularizing the sport (The science of supercross is very well done, for instance), but rather that Wood's a clueless idiot who sucks big time.
