DV said the only people watching are people that are core and don't care about who a flagger is and we aren't mainstream enough to be dumbing stuff down. If we suddenly hit mainstream and has 2 million viewers and half didn't know what a flagger was for then dumb it down. That should've been the end of the argument right there.

Give the content away. Make it more available. What purpose does NBC have going through youtube clipping 5 year old races? The sport is shrinking and they're limiting access to the sport now more than ever.

As I said before I didn't mind him on Top Gear, even though the original euro version was much better. Those three on Grand Tour were also awesome.
To whoever just made that point about Ralph, holy 💩 you're right and it took this for me to see that. Ralph is annoying but man you're right about him drawing attention to where Tomac is on the track.
It's just the absolute disrespect Rutledge had on Pulp that made me drop and benefit of the doubt I had for him.
Rutledge you are talking to an ex ELITE level rider who is still relevant in the sport, and arguably the most recognizable media personality we have, and all you could do was argue and talk down to them like they know nothing about this insignificant sport? Bad look.

I'm a core moto guy, but I'm going to go out on a limb here....Hopefully I articulate this correctly....

I watched some Arenacross broadcast a couple weeks ago, and while I appreciate the racers and the announcers, man it looked and sounded totally amateur. It was difficult to watch because it just seemed so much lower teir than Supercross. Well, I'm pretty sure anyone who "stumbles" onto Supercross on NBC Sports thinks the same thing, if not worse, about our broadcast. It's sad but I think it's true. How do we change that? I don't know, but I do know it's definitely not Rutledge or whatever nonsense they will have him doing this weekend. In my opinion the crap he's been doing on the broadcast makes it WORSE.
Nobody is going to become a fan because of flaggers being showcased. If they show some factory bike stuff, the technology and R&D it takes to make Supercross suspension work for example, and someone keeps watching...THAT'S the fan who will stick around.
But you know what? Maybe I AM wrong. I'm not so arrogant to not listen to a riding legend and an incredibly knowledgeable media guy just because I've been "friends" with MC for ten years.

What a sanctimonious prick.

Every time he says "bro" I wanna knock his teeth out. He will never be a "We" when it comes to our sport.

He must be taking it in the bung from someone high up.

Not defending the guy but, he's definitely not the first media guy to insult moto fans or the the last. Happens regularly.

They are not going to grow the sport going down the path they’re on. Think about it. How many were really, really interested in the sport before they got their first bike? The casual observer who has never ridden will never be hooked. Everyone can relate to a basketball or football game cause everyone played when they were 10 years old, even if they sucked. The amount that have ridden a dirt bike is fractional by comparison.

Those with a vested interest (like the manufacturers) should be dropping Honda “i wanna ride” type commercials into every other sports broadcast slot on TV. Make it look fun and safe. Don't lure them into TV to watch Marv laid out on the floor for 5 minutes. Let them understand the difference in those guys level first. Get kids interested, get families on bikes, and you’re almost guaranteeing an increase in fan base as it is now relatable to those people. They missed a golden opportunity when everyone was stuck inside over the past year. Sales were up, but how many were truly “new” sales?

From a TV perspective, catering to a casual fan that doesn’t exist is painful for everyone.

Youth and pit bikes sales were probably 35-40% new riders at our dealership.

I have never understood Feld/NBC/Fox being so vigilant on YouTube with race uploads. The only "selling product" value the race holds is the live event tickets and the live broadcast. After that, it is pretty much worthless. But if they just uploaded the entire events to YouTube after say 72 hours, it would provide a free content way to get more people potentially watching. Hanging onto and protecting the broadcasts is such a 1990s way of doing things.

Ruttledge Wood is exactly why I don't want to ever see Supercross go mainstream. People like him should conform to OUR sport...not the other way around.

With how Feld and the AMA do things, I really don't have much to worry about.

You know how Crusty Demons of Dirt attracted the tatted, flatbiller, 909 crowd (which I'm fine with because they're gritty)? Imagine what the Ruttledge Wood crowd would look like. Before you know it, guys will be getting penalties for roosting too much and the mains will automatically have to include 3.5 women, no matter their qualifying times.

I knew nothing about football when I started watching it...and I didn’t need to learn through Troy Aikmen explaining to me how the ref throws a flag on the play.

Only we can do that!

He was a condescending ass and good on DV for standing up and not giving a shit who he was or where he worked.

Average viewer appeal or not, I could do without his Huckleberry approach and oversimplified "Golly.. Gosh.. Gee.. I didn't know that" segments. It's fake to the core. Rutledge is a big time Hot Rod and Motorsports enthusiast, with some really cool Hot Rods. Him playing a newcomer, outsider, role for the cameras, is cringeworthy, but he's getting paid to do that very thing. I blame programming directors more than RW..

I blamed them too, until his absolute mess of an appearance on Pulp last night. He truly made it so much worse. Took an opportunity to listen and learn from DV and Steve and turned it into a "let me tell you what your sport needs"

I have not listened to pulp yet and don't know the guy to judge him. But what does the production people not get about the broadcast ? A 40 year old man that looks like a tub of shit with a flannel shirt is not growing the sport. The same with will Christian and her constant rambling as well. Daniel Blair talks about gate picks and the track breaking down and gets less time then she does.she should be doing podium interviews and that's it. I guess I'm old school but that the same stupid shit when Dennis Miller or Rush Limbaugh did MNF.

You guys have all gone to great lengths to explain the not so good, and the worst of the broadcast, but let's all be honest... Regardless of how they display content, we are all going to watch. It's not like stick and ball sports. There isn't another race on a different channel. They got us by the "boo-boos", and they know it. We are always going to watch, so we are not the one's they are trying to please. It's the new viewers who increase the numbers, who in turn attract new and bigger sponsors. THIS IS NOT ABOUT THE CORE FAN... Follow the $'s.

My ears hurt too!

This guy wouldn't shut up or let DV talk at all.

I'm not one to complain a lot but this guy don´t like him.

If he is really into grow the sport he would put something about SX in his IG feed but there is nothing ! he is just doing his job and pretending that he cares about it but I bet he doesn't.

Throw in David Bailey or someone that comes from the sport. There's a ton to pick from: Emig, Bailey, RJ, Mitch would be amazing....i love when he's on the podcasts, etc.

We would never be so lucky to have DV be the tv personality. They should cater to the awesome fan base that SX has. We all freaking race and ride and know the sport.

Ralph is in the cool guy club as well at this point.

A couple of years ago i believe that the supercross broadcast won an Emmy if i'm not mistaken. They had that shit down.

The Science of Supercross series has been great. My wife, who watches the races with me while doing other stuff, says she learned a lot with this part of the broadcast. good stuff.

I said nothing to the contrary... That has nothing to do with my statement. They know we will watch regardless. We are sacrificed to attract new people. Don't forget, when Ralph was repeatedly saying "The Red Honda. The Orange KTM." Dude, please. We know what the f#ck the colors are. It isn't about us...

Nothing Rutledge is doing is growing numbers. Period. Nobody tunes in for the first time, sees his segment on flaggers, and says oh man I gotta tune in next week, maybe he'll show us who runs the concessions!!
If a new fan isn't interested in the stuff Blair is showcasing, they aren't going to stick around anyway.

Are you still going to watch the race this weekend? When people do not like the content of other shows they turn the channel... I'll bet nobody here does that. Maybe I am wrong? But I doubt it...

But Miller and Limbaugh actually knew football.... that's the big difference.

I liked Miller on MNF....I always found the need to have a dictionary nearby. His vocabulary was out of this world.

Bingo. UFC is a multi billion dollar company. They upload PPV fights in their entirety to youtube before a fighters next big fight.

Rutledge did an LS swap in his Porsche. That's all I need to know. Man, talk about some hillbilly shit...

It's one thing to LS swap a '96 4x4 Ford van with 35" tires (because the 351 sucks), and entirely different thing to ruin the handling characteristics of a Porsche. 🤣🤣🤣
