i just hope they dont make diffy go on random tangents about how flexible a rider is or how tall they are or all the other random shit ralphie goes on about. i wont miss that, but i have to admit i will miss hearing him absolutely lose his shit when something crazy happens on the track🤣

What's classic is how many Americans thought he was British, and Will is an Aussie.Woohoo

I didn't mind Ralph but it's OK, he did his time. Weege is the best in the US, no doubt, while Malin is the best in Europe.

I would guess Feld doesn't want Weege because he does the outdoors. Stupid and shortsighted if that theory is true. Both series would benefit having the same play-by-play commentator.

With that said, Leigh Diffey did an awesome job the couple of races he did in 2020. Thanks for the memories Ralph (and i will lowkey miss his goofyness) but the change had to be made.

I agree Weege would have been the best choice. Whoever decided are either completely uneducated or just an idiot. There is no reason good enough tbh.

At least Diffy is very good.

Weege has enough exposure. After 3 weeks, you guys would be calling for his head. Tongue

I'm personally not a fan or Weege. I know I'm in the minority here, but to me he is annoying, maybe too much energy, not sure but never really been a fan. I probably would rather have Weege over Ralph, but not sure about having him over Leigh.

Guys I’m sorry Ralph is not announcing anymore, but please, can we give this a rest. There were so many threads complaining about Ralph here over the years that if you think the majority wanted to keep him then you’re out of your mind. Let’s appreciate this change. Leigh is good - fantastic breath of fresh air that oozes confidence and knowledge of the sport - if you think he isn’t, you’re in the minority - so shut up and let us enjoy some decent commentating. If he cocks up then there will be enough threads here to talk about it, but for f sake at least let a few rounds go by first.

I would much rather see an American (we are talking SX) ex-racer in the booth than what is considered "pro announcers". Bailey, Emig, Carmichael, RJ, etc. I don't believe that crap that you need to have someone translate SX for the common audience. If I don't know anything about Supercross and David Bailey is announcing and I look up his name on Google I'm going to learn more about him in the sport and his credibility then some formula one guy that has to study up. Jmo.

Listening to Diffy covering SX last year made it very much feel like I was watching GPs, his accent is at thick as Paul Malin's, but lacks the energy Malin brings when racing gets intense. I expect the accent watching GPs, or even Canadian MX, but would prefer Weege, and I actually didn't mind Ralph (sorry I am not as hardcore, "hard", or cool as some). I know Ralph puts his foot his mouth a few times per race, but he knows plenty to qualify for the job, and I actually like his energy.

Downvote away, Diffy is not my first pick.
Pretty much X2.

I didn’t mind Diffy’s accent too much, but something about Will’s is just so nasally that it sounds like fingernails on a chalkboard to me (for you young guys who never had a chalkboard in school, that’s not a pleasant thing!!!). The saving grace for her is that she is generally very good and knowledgeable about what she needs to be, and when she seems to ‘dumb it down’ it is obviously because the producers are wanting her to try to make things easier for people new to the sport to understand.

One thing that I can admit is that as much as it bothers me that my employees resist change, in cases like this I am the same way. I have liked the familiarity of listening to Ralph over the years and his gaffes are generally minor enough that I completely stopped noticing them. On the flip side, when watching the rounds that Diffy called he made his share of little errors and every single one of them bothered the hell out of me!!!!!

I’m sure that after this season and maybe next, Diffy’s voice and style will become imprinted as the sound of Supercross in my brain and I’ll be pissed off when he is moved off the broadcasts for bigger and better things’

Diffey is an ex-racer, has been around moto since he was a kid and has lived in America for years, so you’re happy right?!

We already have RC in the booth for the analyst/colour commentary. Adding another ex-racer without an announcer/TV guy to carry things will not work out well. In sports broadcasting, one has to have the so-called announcer there to carry the action, bring things in from commercials, throw to sidelines, etc, etc. These people have generally spent a long time developing their skills and while they might not be an expert in riding a dirtbike or throwing a football, they are experts at broadcasting.

You've listened to Real Talk 447 right? Imagine a SX broadcast with just Emig and Carmichael in the booth?

Yup. It'll be a TV on mute kind of year for SX. Guy was terrible last year and Emig was way better then RC.

I think diffey did great. Weege would be my top pick but im not complaining. Supercross went in the right direction and its not good to move the goal post.

Diffey’s strength is his ability to elevate the game of his fellow commentators. His experience and innate sense of timing improves the performance of the entire team. We saw a different, better RC when paired with Duffey, which should translate into a better “flow” in 2021.

It's a meme / joke actually, from an old thread on Vital where people were complaining about Weege (I believe after the Washougal beer-bong incident)

People didn't remember, that's cool.

(I personally think Weege is great, he would do awesome at SX commentary. The powers that be don't want him, though. No amount of bitching about Ralph or Leigh Diffey on Vital will change their minds)

I'm guessing we hear about the Lawrence brothers about 1,000,000 times throughout the season. 500,000 of those mentions will be this weekend.

I’m not a weege fan honestly, the goofy laugh and the hating of JLAW turns me off.

MXSPORTS, racerx, ama, none of them are getting my money until they pay their contributors more.
