I currently drive a 2017 GMC Sierra Denali. Got it new in 17 and have put almost 80k miles on it. Not a single issue, these trucks are so well equipped and drive so damn nice.

I’ve now had 2009, 2012 and 2014 Silverado’s/Sierras. I’ve traded them all around 80-100k for a new one, but have never had a single issue with any of these trucks.

When it comes to buying new, you can score some pretty damn good deals. My trucks sticker price was $60k. With incentives and negotiating I got it for around $50k OTD, which is something like $15k off sticker. There’s a ton of mark up in trucks and SUV’s.

I would recommend a 2014+ GMC or Chevy given your budget. You could find one well equipped with relatively low miles.

I am a firm believer that all of the brands have pros/cons and issues that arise from time to time. If you treat them well, they will treat you well right back.
Youre trading them before theyre even broken in. 80k miles on a truck is brand new lol

Look for a super plain Jane f250 xl with a 6.2 gasser. Reliable as a hammer. Poor mpg though

I dig this mini-van truck. It’s a Honda so you know it’s built well.
But here’s the kicker. Can you imagine how light a Ktm truck would be? Stock air suspension and stuff. Wow. Just wow.

I wasn’t implying I’ve timed out a truck, just stating my experience and reassurance for someone buying a truck that’s a couple years old.

Buying new every few years has worked out really well for me. Paid cash for the first one, and each one after that I end up selling for around $10k less than I bought it for. I just pay the difference (usually about $10k) and drive away with a new truck. My truck is currently valued at $38k and I paid $50k OTD, so I will have $12k in deprecation in 3 1/2 years and 80k miles.

Having a new truck with a warranty and first few services paid for is really nice. I don’t buy brakes, transmissions, pulleys/belts etc. Haven’t paid for a repair in over 10 years.

I know you're looking for a truck, but....

Be the guy with a 3-rail trailer behind a little car.... that (on the track) waxes the flat-billed Monster bro with his lifted diesel.

As a lifelong pickup truck owner, I took an honest look at whether I really need it (I'm not a tradesman) and what the stupid things cost, and swallowed my manhood and got a compact SUV. Have not regretted it one minute yet.

Long story short I had to get a car for a previous job.. well fast forward two years I beat the car to piss and now I ride almost every weekend that im out of college I really could benefit from a truck. I have an old yukon that costs me nothing I use with a moto jack. Although she's a 6.0 with 160k miles and she's tired.. I have been told after the first quarter both our industry and the car industry should be back to "normal" inventory. I have a solid job, not a ton of expenses, and have 6k I can put down. I have waited all of covid to get a truck but im tired of waiting and feel like my car and yukon are ticking timb bombs. So do I man up and wait for who knows how long.. Or man up, bite the bullet and try to find a deal (LOL) before tax refunds or potenially more stimulus? Truck prices are driving me bonkers.

A GM SUV with the 6.0 and 4l80e (or any of its successors) is good way past 160k if you take care of her. Sounds like you are just trying to justify a new ride, which is cool. But the GMT800 and GMT900s are both built well. Even if things started going wrong, would still be cheaper than financing new. You are looking at 30k plus for even a shite single cab.

You could go used, 5,000 but for a late GMT400 Chevy/ GMC (post 1996 is best for OBDII diagnostics). 5,000 will also get you a high mileage z71 Silverado Sierra from 199-2006. Has ABS, heated seats, cruise all the cool modern shit. Will be cheap to maintain. In fact , you could sell your Tahoe or trade it for one.

I've got a 2012 Chevy Silverado K1500 LT extended cab with 220,000 on a 5.3 / 6 speed. Like others have said, you've gotta put a good troque-converter in them and VOILA...Bullet-Proof (Replaced mine at 120,000). This truck hauls trailers that're beyond it's rating ALL THE TIME...including over the SIerras to Mammoth...or out to Texas and back.

I can't believe how good it still looks and how well it runs.

Had a few people offer good money to sell it to them. Nope. It's kinda like a "Ranch Truck" to me now

I have a 2011 Toyota Tacoma and keep it clean. It’s paid for and I’ll probably keep it until I have kids and pass it down to them. It has 92K miles and not a single problem. I could sell easily for $20K. My wife has a 2018 Colorado and it drives amazing but the build quality is nowhere near a Toyota. Our Colorado has 42K miles and the check engine light come so on and off. Overall,I wouldn’t get a GM again.

Get something you can pay off in 5 years or less. Some of the loan lengths I’m seeing on here make me want to pull my hair out

for many people, the convince and joy (some people just like nice, new things) far outweighs the $3k yield after 5 years

Take your current beater to a competent mechanic and get a rundown of what it needs to hang onto for another year or two. Save that money and buy a new bike.

You don't think anyone really believes that, do you?

I've had pretty much all of them, GMCs, a Chevy Silverado, S-10, and Colorado, a Ford F250 diesel and F350 King Ranch twin-turbo 6-liter diesel - AND - a Honda Ridgeline and my current ride, the latest generation Toyota Tacoma.

The Toyota and the Honda both seem built to a higher standard - even when compared the admittedly opulent King Ranch F350. Belittle them for both if it amuses you, but a question worth asking might be: if a man needs his truck to affirm his manhood, then what are those things he's doing when he's not driving around in his manly truck?

I picked up a 2017 Nissan Frontier last year for 16k with 25k on it. Got it from San Juan Nissan. Fits two bikes, 3 if one the buddies is being lazy and doesn’t want to drive. Got the 4banger so the mpg is great. never understood the dudes with no trailer or anything rolling into the track with the baddest biggest new full size truck. It may be a poor mans tacoma but it’ll run forever and it’s kind of a new mini truck!
Had a 2016 Nissan Fronteir Pro-X crew cab then this past June purchased a new 2020 Chevy Colorado crew cab. Gotta say I liked the Nissan more than the Chevy and it was quite a bit cheaper cost. The simplicity and features fit my tastes more in the Nissan. The Chevy is nice but nothing about it really jumps out. The Nissan felt a little more rugged and aggressive and it also had a CD player and old school me misses that allot even though there becoming outdated. And the sound system to go with it in the Pro-X model was really impressive! Had a subwoofer under the back seat and the factory set up was the best speaker system I’ve ever had

I used to work for enterprise. You don’t want an enterprise car. Most haven’t been kept up on maintenance like they should and when they do get them serviced it’s just at a quick oil change shop with any joe blow doing the work. Second off you’ve had god knows how many people abuse and drive the piss out of the car. They make it sound like a good deal but it’s really not

Ive absolutely done some crazy stuff in rental cars in empty mall parking lots, especially when it rains haha. No one should ever by a previous rental.

If you wait until factory rebates come out you can get them for a decent deal. I got my 18 f150 3.5 ecoboost XLT with sport package interior for 40k otd and it stickered for 57k. Had roughly 10k in rebates and then talked them down to final price.

This is the worst advice ever. Just get good oil/filter and do extended oil changes. For example, Amsoil oil and filter, change it every 20k.

That’s what I want to know. Where can I get guaranteed 4% return? Although, right now, I’d say the forecast of some pretty serious inflation over the next few years is in store. Assets might be a better investment. Of course, a car is a depreciating asset so I’m not saying to put a lot of your money into a car.
