Wife got it a month ago works in a hospital started with a headache, fever, head cold and fatigue no smell or taste she is 39 and healthy. Took her about a week to recover she was back to work in 8 day.

She has been working the Covid floor non critical, 100 or so patients the majority are elderly or with comorbidities. She feels staffing is playing a roll the patients outcome, some are laying in bed for days which is affecting the recovery process or lack of recovery. Before Covid hospital staffing was at questionable levels now it has went nuclear.

This is a modern day gold rush for these health care systems with this covid and all the government reimbursement. If this was something they wanted to get a handle on they would be calling in the natl guard putting up community tent hospitals like in March to handle the over load. They have since figured out the system now instead they are jamming them into every available space." never waist a good crisis" HRC

I'm a believer this is real, elderly and people with comorbidities and those random unlucky soles are going to struggle with recovery and may die the truth is we all are going to at some point cant pick the path.

They’re still trying to run staffing numbers like there isn’t a pandemic. So the last 6 months when the hosptials were empty....hospitals down staffed. And cut numbers when they could of been ramping up.

Management if the system burned nurses out before and now during a pandemic with people quitting and fed up with it, management just say well pandemic. Sorry. 6 to 1 nurse ratio in the icu. (What do you think happens then? The nurses quit, turnover remains high.)

This is a multifaceted problem. But for years If the icu wasnt 85% full they weren’t making money. These units are still staffing to grids pre pandemic. Not the smartest thing to do if you’re truly worried about being overrun.

A little late to this thread but it's been everywhere in Louisiana, I know about 30 people who has had the virus between work and friends. Age range from 20 to my Grandma that's 81 with diabetes. Work partner who is 57 and had thyroid cancer last year got over with no complications. Pretty sure me and my son had it but didn't get checked. I am familiar with one person in our town who died from it who was in their eighties but i couldn't pick them out of a lineup. I don't personally know anyone who has been hospitalized but it's everywhere around here.

I've got an hour left in my shift and this will be the first time in a long while that we haven't had any positive swabs. There's actually somebody on their way here that sounds like they are pretty likely to be positive We just have to hope they hit some traffic so I'm able to end my perfect shift with no covid.

We made it!!! 12.5 hours with no positive covid results. We're turning the corner. I didn't get to hear if that one on the way was positive. We got a critical one that distracted us until quitting time.

It took awhile but it finally hit someone in my family. My dad thought he just had a cold but after a week it wasn’t going away. Tuesday morning when I got home from my last night shift my mom called me to let me know she had dropped my dad off at the ER (which killed her that she couldn’t go In With him) he is not the picture of health. He was stuck In The ER for about 6 hours when we found out he’d be hospitalized for 5 days minimum. I called him to check on him and could definitely tell he was pretty terrified because of the struggle to breath. Thankfully over the next 5 days he climbed back out of the hole and was released and is doing much much better. The crazy thing is, my mom has zero symptoms. She had been sleeping in my brothers old bedroom when he first got sick so I’m sure that helped but still crazy she has not caught it.

Like most places we have been in a steady spike of cases here in Central New York since October. Had a co worker test positive after Halloween and he was around the rest of us for a couple days before he was diagnosed, but nobody else tested positive luckily. I’ve known a handful of other friends/family that also tested positive but nobody had major complications. Got a two year old daughter at home, I have no spleen, and my wife is her grandmas care taker so I continue to take every precaution i can though and stay within my own house and family outside of work. It’s not a gamble I want to take until things calm down

Our household has it. Daughter got it first, about 5 days ago. Wife tested positive 3 days ago me 2 days ago.

Daughter is mid 20's - cough, sore throat, fever, slight aches and pains, no taste/smell
Wife and I are mid-upper 40's - cough, sore throat, fever(100-102), aches and pains, no taste/smell

We made a game of trying to smell stinking stuff. I absolutely despise the smell of vinegar. I had to put my nose in the bottle to even get a hint of the smell.

Wish you and your family the best getting thru this!

My friend just lost his grandfather. He got sick with Covid, went to the hospital, got better and was discharged after about 6 days. 2 days later died from blood clot in his lung.

Anybody else feel like they might have gotten a false negative.

I started feeling crappy last Saturday 12/5. Terrible sore throat.

Sunday afternoon had a low fever and throat got worse.

Checked on places that might offer fast testing because a household member is an ICU shift leader. Found one place that offered the rapid testing, but they had,a 3 day back up.

We decided I would isolate from the rest of the family and went and got tested first thing 12/7.

They did a flu test, a test for strep, and they both had a negative result. Took a swab for Covid.

While I was there I went ahead and asked for an oral steroid and an albuterol inhaler.

Throat got worse. Cough developed.

Got negative test results wednesday morning. Lost taste and smell about lunch time. Decided.to go to the drive through test at the health department thursday morning 12/10.

Meanwhile, throat became excruciating, cough worsened, taste and smell completely gone. Started on the steriods.

Monitoring blood oxygen level which has stayed above 90 so far.

Got second test results, again, negative.

The thing is, my gf's niece had to quarantine because a bunch of others on her sports team tested positive. Everybody in her immediate family tested positive, but not her.

She has the most severe symptoms, and now has pnuemonia. But has not had a second test.

I hear numbers floating around of up to 40% of test results are a false result.

Anybody else had dealings with this?

Smashing and georgia, you guys seen anything like that you can talk about?

My friend’s wife was admitted due to COVID. Breathing issues flared up, moved to ICU. While on a ventilator, she suffered a massive stroke and died. Two young teenaged girls lost their Mom and my friend devastated. Shit sucks...

One of my wife's friends is a Physicians Assistant, and when she first got sick they tested her- negative. She stayed home, but the symptoms got worse and were constant with Covid. So they ran a second test- negative. A couple days later she's still having every Covid symptom and they test here a third time- still negative. The Dr said screw it, I'm checking off you have Covid. A week or so later she was fine, though she did say it really kicked her ass for a couple weeks, and she's one tough cookie.

I agree on the false negative deal. My dad and mom and nephew 5 were sick about a month ago. Mom had a double lung transplant 2 years ago and dad healthy. Around the 2nd week of November they both got ill mom had a bad cold deal and my dad and nephew were worse. They all went and got tested came back negative. Moms stuff cleared fast she’s on 20 different medications due to the transplants my dad and nephew still has as raspy chest and cough. 2 weeks ago my wife and I started feeling rough. We started out super dry sinus and throat to a lot of drainage. I actually had bad headaches and back pain a few days before the dry throat started. I waited a few days before getting tested, finally went and it came back neg. Well I felt super nauseous bad body aches couldn’t breathe for the next few days and even woke up around 2am with my neck and both shoulders hurting like never before last Tuesday. I’m still coughing and have a congested chest 2 weeks later. We all tested negative so there must be a nasty cold virus going around where I live or all these test are wrong.

Honestly could be a virus of unknown origin. there are so many occurring in nature.

But the loss of taste and smell is almost being treated as a diagnostic confirmation in itself.

Collection technique plays a large part as well. I feel like I see a lot of poor technique for testing and could play a role. But at this point hard to tell without setting up a study to track inaccuracies.

Bizarre Part is you can get anyone to test positive for anything with a pcr if you run it long enough. It’s all bizarre.

Here’s some collecting from earlier in the year was present during. It really is all about good technique to get the best sample.

Georgie, what are your thoughts on these self-performed tests? My wife got tested a few weeks ago before a trip and she went to the local CVS drive-thru. They gave her the swab and watched her scrape inside her nose (like your pics), but what if she didn't do it correctly? She came back negative and isn't showing symptoms so I'm not concerned for her, however I wonder how accurate the results are for these testing methods.

I was just talking to someone last night who has to test himself every two weeks for work. He said him and all his work colleagues always test negative because none of them are sticking that thing far enough up their nose.

I just got my results back and they are positive. So far my symptoms are minor, so hoping that they dont get worse. At least I was able to ride on Saturday. Did not start feeling anything until Saturday evening (scratchy throat), thought it was because it was pretty windy and dusty at the track. Woke up feeling worse, and at my job we will get in trouble if you come into work sick, so I got tested. Hopefully workmens comp will be approved so I can recoup my sick leave.

Some tests claim nares is fine. Other say need to be deep. I don’t know. There’s really no right answer. But now many times do your wife watch a Home Depot commercial and she figured out real quick it’s not just that easy.

18 hours since I rolled up my sleeve for my first shot of the COVID-19 vaccine...

My three oldest received their first shot 12 hours ago...

And all I can think about is ... how much fun I am going to have on Wednesday riding with all my kids during a snow storm.!!!!

And to answer the OP's question - Yes.

My brother tested positive last week and he seems to be doing well. 55 years old, in better shape than I was in my 20's, never smoked and no pre-existing conditions to speak of other than being an asshole at times. So far he's doing well. No taste/smell, aches, etc. Says very similar to regular flu in his case---so far.

Craziest shit, though, while he was waiting for his test results, he and his wife and kids, assuming if one had it, they likely all had it, just went about life as normal that night. He only tested because a co-worker had tested positive and the whole office went in to get tested, but he had no symptoms at the time. He and the wife slept together that night, had some COVID sex and next day he was alerted he was positive.

He quarantined at that point, and the wife and kids went in to test the next morning and they're all negative. His wife and kids were told to come back and test again 3 days later and were negative again? Because they thought at that point his wife may have had it before and had antibodies, but when they tested her for those, she did not have any antibodies either. That's just amazing to me when you hear how crazy contagious it is.

I guess it just goes to show you, there's still so much we don't know about this shit.

I and my family will be first in line when made available. You hear all this crazy shit from the anti-vac's movement, but so far I've taken every vaccine ever offered throughout my life and so far it hasn't turned me into a zombie. I'll give it one more shot--pardon the pun.

Same here, ignorance and prayers doesn't keep anyone safe from anything. I'm trying to get fast tracked for the vaccine since I work in hospitals, jails, police departments, retirement homes, schools, commercial buildings, manufacturing plants, ect. HVAC Service Techs will probably be overlooked as front line workers though, gotta get all the government officials first.

I believe I may have gotten it from my kids. Who probably got it from school. Not totally sure. We have been wearing masks for months. And the amount of hand washing and hand sanitizer has bordered on insanity. We still couldn’t escape it.

I have gone out shopping several times. Including Black Friday. So maybe I got it then.... just can’t be sure.

My kids have had very mild symptoms and they have been different symptoms. Really nothing you would have said oh maybe they have Covid.

I’m doing my best to stay quarantined from the family but yeah that’s pretty much impossible.
Weird, you wore a mask, washed your hands, sanitized and still got it?

You did everything right, stayed away from your family, left your parents to die alone, chastised those who don't social distance or wear a mask, watched as small business's, restaurants and bars went under. At the same time watched SX and MX race. NFL play on, even with so-called cases, only to return with no lingering problems.

Hid in your house, only to go shopping and black Friday, with hundreds/ thousands of slobs.

If the TV hadn't told you about it you still would have gotten sick, and never knew what China Flu even was.

This is now the definition of stupid, Land or the comply home of the candy ass
