JGR needed to change team managers about five years ago. Things haven’t been working at that team for years. The only constant through it all was the team manager. Good or bad. After years of futility a change should have been made. I get it he’s a great guy but man sometimes you need to shake things up when it’s been year after year after year of the same ho-hum results.
It was the team manager's fault that guys like Peick and Savatgy got hurt in off-season races?

Why is this Suzuki or JGR’s or Jeremy Albrects fault? How about it’s time our sports organizers wake the F up and make some changes where sponsors and others who try and invest in our sport can get some ROI. Also please to the organizers stop stealing sponsors from teams. I’m hoping at sometime the series go for sale and we we see some of our wealthy high profile racers buy it and fix it! Until then this shit will keep happening. Sorry to everyone who is out jobs and thanks to The Gibbs family and everyone involved for making it last as long as it did.

Gibbs knows how to make money with a race team. I’d love to hear their thoughts on what the sport needs in order for these teams to survive.

Wow

The internet.

People saying crazy-silly shit like...

What has JGR done that's worth $300K?
Well, how about KEEPING A FACTORY LEVEL PRESENCE FOR SUZUKI for about '10 cents on the dollar"...?

J-Bone should have been fired years ago...
Wow. Talk about not knowing WTF you are talking about as you insult the living shit outta someone you do not know as you speak of thngs you don't understand.

Fact: Suzuki pulled the plug on Yoshimura's "Factory Operation" and then it slid over to JGR...for waaaaaaay less and, to be honest, NOT ENOUGH MONEY.

Fact: JGR made the bikes work and got results (for those of us that seem to remember Troll, Weston, Freddie...and so many others that got those bikes "in the show" and got results). What kind of completely ignorant fool forgets the results that Weston got...that A-Mart got...that Freddie got...and others.

Fact: JGR kept a presence in the SX and MX series at "a factory level" and some Vitards come in here and say TOTALLY STUPID SHIT about the guys that pulled it off.

Fact: it was the passion and committment by J-Bone and a family that he loves and loves him that kept this team "afloat" these last few years and all some of you can do is be a complete ass holes towards him...towards them.

Papa Joe and the family have put a lot of responsibility and faith in Jeremy.
From where I'm standing? He's got a lot to be proud of.
J Bone delivered.

A shout out to those of you that know this and have shared your sadness in regards to the loss of an amazing team, a productive operation...and amazing group of "really good people".

For the nay-sayers:
Where's "Factory Yamaha" these days?
Where's FC-Geico Honda these days?

I hope its not true. I think that team and atmosphere is one we need for this sport. I had bryar Perry on my show (MotoSpotShow) who shoots all the troll train vlogs and from the sounds of it, that team has no plans to fold. We shall see. Until I see a press release, I'm hopeful that Jgr will be back, strong as ever.

At a certain point it doesn’t matter who’s fault anything is. They have thrown a ton of money at things. They have gone through many riders.

One constant through it all was the team manager.

He’s a great guy by all accounts. No one is saying anything is his fault. The results were not happening under him and he had 10+ years to figure it out. If you are happy with the same results year after year then I guess keep doing the same thing.

Success sometimes comes from addition by subtraction. He has been the one constant on that team. Leading the entire thing start to finish. In a results oriented business they needed to make a change 5 years ago.

They didn’t. The results stayed exactly the same. And now the team is folding.

Maybe a change would have done nothing. Maybe they have worse results. But you never know until you try. Maybe with a new manager they get a fresh perspective and things click. Well we will never know....

Here comes the Vital cavalry to shit all over JGR.

I'd prefer to remember all the guys they gave an opportunity to, either as full-time riders or as fill-ins when needed. Off the top of my head: Justin Brayton and Weston Peick had great seasons on JGR. Brayton went to KTM with BBMX and did worse. Both Josh Grant and Davi Millsaps had some of their best overall seasons on JGR, and I'm pretty sure JG didn't win on a 450 with any other team. Stewart didn't work out as planned, but he won 2 races for them and I think any of us here would admit that 2010-2014 era James was about as erratic as it could be. Barcia was also pretty erratic, but was he any better or worse than with Honda or factory Yamaha? Seems to me like Justin's biggest obstacle has always been his own ability to set up a bike.
I think it's unfair to give JGR all the shit they're getting, but just to be "that guy" I'll point out that Millsaps won on Honda before going to JGR, never won on JGR, then went to Suzuki and won again. But I think that's more because of the Yamaha then because of the team. I always thought the team look great to be around, and it's just a matter of bad fortune that they never earned a championship.

It’s a business. It’s not insulting to say that JGR should have made a change years ago. No one is doubting his skill set. It’s really no different then what happens in any other major sports. It’s a business. Plain and simple.

He’s a good dude. But the results haven’t been there with the money they have invested. That’s not to say they haven’t had some wins here and there. But on par with the money invested they have not performed nearly to the level they or anyone would expect of a fully funded Gibbs racing team.

You can’t argue that no matter how much you might love the guy.

There’s no money to be made in motocross. JGR was probably my favorite team. Wished they coulda got a championship.

Think there will be a Factory Suzuki effort at all for supercross with another team?

I see slight factory support, but no factory Suzuki rig.

Damn this is a blow. Listening to Reeds last podcast and Harts on whisky throttle talk about the feld and MX sports not being friendly for outside sponsors and now we just lost JGR. Obviously Covid is not helping but this trend of losing teams continues.

At the end of the day Suzuki's MX sales are just not there. I have not seen the numbers this year but for the last several years the number of units sold in the US was frankly shocking. I won't try and go into why but that's the reality. They are making a ton of money in the marine business and I think you may see Suzuki auto back in the US soon. The money is there and certainly they are fully capable of designing great motorcycles. But they are going to have to spend some money to get there and the question is will they? Lets hope so. JGR is in no position to subsidize the US Suzuki race program.

True enough. I was thinking more that he was 2nd overall in SX in 2012.

Bummed on this one. Big Rig John and J-Bone are friends with my cousin. They've extended passes to my son and I a lot of times over the years. Thank you JGR team, we are a grateful father n son!

Yes I know, 2nd overall in 2013 too. 3rd overall in 2010.

The point here is that despite all the criticism of this program, some riders had career best years (Peick, Grant) and many others had equivalent results at least.

Was always thrilled that the east coast and Charlotte had to top level SX/MX team. Sad to hear they may be closing down.

Son, when I was your age, there was a MX brand called Suzuki. Now they only sell cheap bike in India but back then, Suzuki was the best OEM in the US, the GOAT and Bubba rode for them, they even had multiple factory-level teams but they had the worst management ever and only about a decade later it just disappeared and became a KTM with yellow plastics and aluminium frame.

Talk all the smack about JGR you want, but we just lost the most recognizable name in motocross. There are way more people in this world that know the Joe Gibbs name than any other name in motocross. That name brought credibility to the sport.

Australia may be down under but we’re ahead of the pack time wise.
Actually Reedy may have been JGR’s last 450 SX podium? And maybe even their last 450 MX holeshot???
