Why is KTM not part of this conversation?? I still don't get the radio silence between Dungey and KTM. I mean what the hell transpired between these two?

Dungey has the fastest cruise mode I've ever seen, if he comes back no doubt he will be contender.

Money isn't everything maybe he just wants to compete at the highest level again.

Dungey will be fine. McGrath took a few years off and came
in and finished behind James,Ricky and Chad. He was in his 30’s and I bet Dungey is in better shape.

I really doubt it, everyone has gotten faster since he left. The sport hasn't stood still since he retired. He'll still do well but I'd put him in the 4-7 range most races, which is still badass.

Also I don't think he would come out of retirement if he thinks that P4-7 is all he's got. He's only 30 as well

Ryan probably sees that MM25 is right there still and what Zacho is doing so thinks he can do better.

He probably can.

So Honda not a done deal. Let the bidding begin! Who's got an extra million laying around? JGR?
JGR, ha. I am sure RD would rather stay retired than ride for that Team.

Barcia, Baggett, Craig and Tomac are in their late 20s; Musquin, Tickle and Osborne are each 30.

At 26 and 27 respectively, even Dylan Ferrandis and JMart are getting a bit "up there." This generation of riders is remarkably well preserved. Wink

Ryan needs money that is not his own, JGR has been known to have a bit. Since they have Toyota, if I was Ryan I'd be talking to pickup truck manufacturer's as a primary sponsor. Pick whatever brand bike he likes and that;s willing to contribute and join or run a satellite team himself with whatever colors and graphics suit the sponsor.

CR22 and RD5 under the same rig if they can have fans at the races in 2021. Stamp it.

Let me repeat:. He said covid money is tight and he was seeking in the same sentence.

Thats pretty crazy if the two are related.

What would be really wild, is if he does come back in RD fashion, and snag another championship on consistency without blowing the doors off everyone, just segmentally destroying them points by finishing where He needs to win....

I took that as its hard to put a deal together because of companies tightening budgets, due to covid.

You would think Gas Gas would find a way to put him on there 450 . Find a way to work around the Fox gear deal . There has to be something that happened when he left KTM . Why would KTM not give him a bike to ride Why is he on a Honda

That's how I understood it, as well. The idea that Dunge himself is hard up for cash is absurd.

Yup, your probably right. He has to have a pile of money from his racing. Not like an older MXer from like the 70s or 80s. Joe Namath is doing life insurance commercials for money for crying out loud..older sport stars just werent paid as well as they are today.

Probably because he expects to be paid a million a year?

You do realize that he probably has a money man helping him out... if you think his money that he has put away isnt making him money then i dont know what to tell you. Most people that are making good money dont just put it in a savings account or checking account.

While i dont know ryan personally, he doesnt seem like a guy living outside his means. I have never seen him flaunting 300k cars or getting into pissing matches as to who has more R8s or who “is a bigger baller.”

5-10 million can go a very long way if you know what you are doing.

Put it this way.... a guy makes 100k/year for 40 years =4mil obviously there are many orher factors to account for such as inflation etc but u get the idea.

If dungey has sacked away much of his earnings, 5-10mil will last him indefinitely if invested properly. My guess is 5-10mil is being conservative as to his assets.

He wasn’t winning when he retired so.......

Sure he won the SX title by being consistent but he was getting pumped outdoors by that point, it’s interesting he wants to come back but I wish him all the best !

KTM has all their eggs in the MotoGP basket now, and they're finally getting wins with Marquez injured. Before the covid boom, dirtbike sales weren't exactly setting the world on fire. KTM is probably maxed out with MM and Webb.

Maybe. Maybe not. He let a lot of people down, including himself, by simping out and retiring early. Meanwhile Chad, who Yamaha paid 6 million one year, was still top tenning after twenty two years, that's 22, at the top level. Chad ran his own team with his own $: Dungey, I get the impression, wants a big salary, and comforts.

"Getting pumped outdoors" = winning consecutive outdoor titles, then getting hurt while a close second in the points going after the third in a row.

How was he getting pumped in the outdoors at that point when he missed most of 2016, and won the 2015 title by winning 8 of 17 rounds?

Also, he retired by winning the the sx title so in what way is that not winning?

Here is what has happened and is going to happen:

He retired on top from an extremely dangerous sport while still having just a little bit of fuel left in the tank. He’s been on the couch for a few seasons and knows he can still be one of the top guys. He’s bored. He wants to prove it to himself he can still do it.

IF, and that’s a big IF, IF he does indeed come back it will probably be just for a season or two at most. And maybe not even that long.

He’s going to quickly realize that the risk isn’t worth it. He is going to have some “close calls” and he’s going to realize it’s better to be getting a back rub on the couch from his wife then to be chasing the young kids around a SX track and trying to perfectly time triple triple double triple. One small mistake and you can blow yourself up like Ken did. Or worse....

Several have pointed to Chad Reed as an example. Chad Reed didn’t just get slower. He’s not taking the risks it takes to go faster. He’s fine just making mains and just trying to get around the track safely.

This is a young mans sport. Especially SX. You have to be a bit fearless.

As you get older and wiser you have a lot more fears....
