The industry was swooning listening to Craig talk though. And admit it! You were too!

I wonder what we missed. Did BB4 put CS23 in the pressure cooker, causing him to crash....or was CS23 comfortable in 2nd and just had a little tipple?....as our past-announcer Georgia would put it.

Maybe he was trying to pass AC but his mind just wouldn’t let him do it

I know there was a problem in the TV truck that prevented them from showing that moto start.
So its Weege's job to say so, assuming he was told.

But if thats the case. shit happens.

Weege asked Dungey straight-up about a comeback next year- I thought that was great broadcasting.
Yes, there was a flub with missing the start of moto 2 and I can’t recall that happening before.
The other thing I noticed was the guys talking about Geico more than the scripted mid-moto plug. And the points leader having a tire problem? I think it’s a plot twist worth showing when there is no passing among the top positions.

" I can’t recall that happening before."

I can, more than once. Just not when they are showing an interview that was not relevant to the race.

They really need split screen coverage to show more story lines. Practice coverage is my biggest disappointment. I think in the 250 class they showed two riders the entire time. I think the followed cooper for almost four laps.

Was it just me, or was everyone else's broadcast screwed up for the second week in a row? It kept freezing and playing, freezing and playing... for about 5 whole minutes. The end result, both audio and video, was like what I'll demonstrate below:

Was t just s everyon oadcast screw a row? It kept fre aying, freez and p .. for abo minutes. The end lt, both d video, was what I'll strat low:

It's a complete shambles. Simply not good enough.
Same director? I was wondering about that because SX has always been REALLY shitty. I watch T+S about 70% of the time in supercross because I'm afraid I'm going to miss something. On the outdoor Nationals I typically barely watch timing and scoring 20% until yesterday. Pretty bad. Yeah I hope it's related to staffing or something temporary

Come to think of it they keep putting up the qualifying times and positions all during the races. I would rather see current lap times. We don't need to see fastest lap every cycle of the times.

I watched it on NBCSN last night and got the same thing. Spectrum is my provider, maybe it was them? I thought it was pretty good overall, although I would have liked to see AC9 more. Once they knew Osborne was going to finish the moto they probably could've backed off and shown some other action.

I'll give some leeway for the in-race production decisions, I know that is probably difficult, seat-of-the-pants stuff...

...But missing the start in favor of a prerecorded segment is just flat malpractice. It is arguably the most adrenaline-charged and important part of an mx race, there's no other action to defer to anywhere else at the event, and everyone knows exactly when it will occur, down to almost the second. There's just no excuse.

Was that on Gold Pass?
TV didn't miss one.

The thing I was most pissed about is direct tv showed the second Moro’s starting at 8:30 and when I switched over to it the 250 moto was almost done. Man I was pissed. I have the gold app but just decided to wait and watch it on tv and missed most the 250 moto

I saw the 30 second board up when they went to the Craig piece. I said to myself..."Man, this better be a quick segment".

as awesome the racing is so far this season , looks like the coverage is getting worse with every race
even commentators replying sme over and over , used to like the 2 up there but they lost it a bit in my opinion

shame as for racing its one of best series ever , every week its awesome to watch

The problem with the commentators is they are stuck watching the same crappy production as us and can only comment on what they are seeing on their monitors.

Until NBC replaces the person calling the shots on the production then we are stuck.

OBTW: The qualifying broadcast is even worse, they followed the same rider around for 15 minutes of the qualifying sessions.

I don't know, he may let it stew for a while but usually shows up with a reasonable explanation for what everyone is up in arms about.

Did anyone else notice Barcia and Tomac both on 17 seconds off leader for several minutes? But we're watching follow the leader up front at 1-4 seconds apart! I was yelling at the monitor for someone to take note. Those guys have good beef history so anything could have happened there but I guess we'll never know. I always watch timing and scoring sidebar to see who is doing what.
While I'm off loading, fastest lap times from the race, during the race and all through the race does not tell us what they are clicking off now. Are the riders on a charge or going backwards???

Please can you pass on all the constructive criticisms from everyone in this thread DC. The TV crew needs a prompter that is watching all these things and alerts the producer and commentators to take note. The Sexton on Baggett pass nearly went unnoticed.

Saying all that, so happy to have something to watch and bitch about.

RIDICULOUS!!

Could it be that the producer in the van doesn't know moto AT ALL??

If you're so moto that you post on Vital and you don't have the NBC gold pass, the problem is you. No commercials and non stop coverage with NBC gold. The TV package sucks because the TV business model is out dated it will never change because it can't change.

I’m telling you guys that they should film the races, then edit (and only show the good stuff) then play it later the same day. The show sucks because there is now way to capture a live race the way we want them to. Do a 2 hour show with both 250 & 450 moto’s but maybe edited down a little to fit. All the races from the 90’s to the 2000’s were done this way and it was way better.

Iv really liked Jason & Grant this year. Grants insight is brilliant! I think its more the camera work that hasnt been up to scratch. Missing the start was poor & cutting over the racing for a prerecorded rider interview is pointless. I hate the gopro lap mid moto. & whats up with Will Christian this year? Half the time when shes talking the bike noise in the background is so loud you cant hear what she says & the other half time she gives no real insight at all. We want her to get over to the Kawi truck between motos & ask Tomac whats going on with him? Get to the honda truck & check in if Chase is banged up. Hows max after all his crashs, during the week off who done testing & what changes did they make? We need useful insider info!!!
I thought the media has some limit on access to the riders/pits? Would be hard to be a pit reporter if you can't get in the pits.

I have to tell you that I think the guys in the booth are having a hard time calling these boring races. To me this series has just become follow the leaders riding and not racing. In over 50 years in this sport, the racing is just not what it was for the previous decades.

The people that pay for MAV and NBCSports are getting it for free? Sign me up for some of that free cable TV! I get it's not the choice of many, but there are areas where high speed internet is not available. Shocking, I know, but it's true...

What?? When is the last time there has been more than 2-3 guys in the "big boy" class that you really thought had a chance of winning unless something bad happened to the top 2 guys? Usually the 250 class is the one to watch, but this year I've enjoyed the 450 motos more, a first for me.

Agree with this (for mx not sx). Most fans are busy Saturday afternoon working, riding or doing family things. I would rather know if I stay off the internet, I can watch a broadcast say every Saturday night at 8PM that is going to be a quality product,

If you’re surprised by this, then welcome to watching racing. They spend the entire race talking about stuff that doesn’t matter. It’s either Tomac, or this season Osborne. I worked with a company that spent six figures annually to sponsor a SX team and one of their riders won Red Bud overall one year, and another rider won a main event in SX and they showed Tomac and Dungey both races the entire moto. Our company decided that day to pull back our commitment to sponsoring by over 50% the following season. It has ZERO return on investment unless you’re a moto parts / brand, you’ll see a lot less sponsors in the next few seasons as well. A sideline interview would have been much better with Dungey as anybody who followed his career knows he is not well spoken to say the very least.

I’m so against this. You realize they’ll edit it down to fit in 2 hour slots but keep all of the fluff, interviews, tree shots, people biting their nails in the bleachers, etc and just leave us with a total of 40 minutes of racing shown from 140 minutes total of racing.

At least what we have gets us nearly the whole race day shown aside from 5 minutes or so of every Moto being interrupted with GoPro track previews and dumb interviews during the race.

What we have now is great, it could be way better but please don’t edit it down. It’ll be much worse.
