Reeds 2011-12 crf 450 was probably the best privateer effort motorcycle, later on in 2012 he started getting factory parts. But he has said multiple times those, especifically the 2012 was badass bikes.

If i could think of one, it would probably be a KTM with a tom zont engine and finely tuned a-kit suspension.
many MX and SX points have been scored on TZR motors and suspension for a fraction of the cost of their competitors... something to be said about years of knowledge and getting the best bang for the buck.

I think we have to agree to disagree on this, so many worthy bikes and no clear winner.

This is about privateer bikes right?
Yep. Terry Good raced one in 1980.

What about the mid 90's Sizzler Yamaha's? Didn't Larry Ward ride one to a 2nd in SX points behind the King.

How has no one mentioned Larry Ward's '94 YZ250? Countless holeshots, and second in the SX series behind the King.

I can't believe it took almost two pages before this was mentioned.

Those Noleen Yamahas were factory beaters that year for sure.
Yeah I was going to add the Sizzler 95 yz250, but the bike wasn,t that impressive. But Larry Ward was. 87 cr125 was way better than any 125 at that time.

Certainly an honorable mention. Late 1983, Lechien was between contracts and bought a stock '84 YZ250 to compete in the off-season CMC sanctioned San Diego Supercross. Most of the heavy hitters were there with their works bikes, but Lechien holeshot and won it wire to wire. Not sure about the mods on the bike, but probably Pro-Circuit. Bevo Forti was spinning the wrenches.

Chris Heiser's Tin Can...Several noteworthy innovations (brakes, liquid cooling, lowboy tank). 1980 I think.

Well these guys landed on the podium in their first race ever, and they looked extra fresh in their Stiffie Air Ride gear.

Emig’s ‘99 US Open winning YZ-250?

John Roeder’s claimed 1979 RC-250, built as a works Honda but in the garage of local?

Tony D’s CZ 400 that he nearly won the 500 US Motocross Championship in 1974. (He lead most of the year, was injured and finished 2nd)

HIs 2011 bike was a privateer effort for part of the SX season, then after he started to win Honda started giving him some works bits. His 2012 bike was a leased factory Honda, as was Andrew Short's 2012 bike (I believe).

When I first read the title, I thought of this bike. I remember he started making statements that the motor he was getting from pro circuit at the second half of the season was not the same as the motor he had earlier in the season. Was it Tedesco on a PC bike that he was battling with?

Yup. He started having issues with his PC motors.

It was, and Tedesco also was controversially swapped in to Team USA after Mike had already been named to the spot.

Mike and Mitch were at odds for years afterward. The fact that every 250 satellite team moved away from PC over the next few years leads me to believe there was at least some truth that he was getting subpar equipment.

In PC’s defense, Ivan ended up winning both the 250 title and the MXoN, so whatever choices they made paid off.

Are you talking about the most seen pic ever?
For what i know the kxf was passing the crf
Anyway, the eleven10 mod bikes looked fast and solid.

Can't find a good photo of it, but Jeff Glass' Surf Detergent Honda CR250 was pretty sweet. I don't think it was anything that special performance-wise, but it sure did look good. So did his gear, all designed by AXO's Kenny Safford. 1991 to 1993 I believe.

Doug Henry’s YZ250’s when he would come out for the ‘Wick those couple years after he retired and before his last big injury were pretty bad ass and full privateer.

91 DGY yz125 Doug Henry lead 3 laps at Millville. Jimmy Button won super crosses on one. Slowest 125 ever stock.
