Quick search shows cancer death rates in the US in a year....roughly 135K.....automobile deaths in the us per year...roughly 38K. The flu kills how people every year? It's called life. People are freaking out as usual....driven by the media.

Of course you should take precautions (hand washing etc), just like any flu season. ...and again, I don't blame Roczen others for taking extra precautions. They have a lot on the line.

Just got back from a Burbank Costco run for stuff I actually needed and it was fucking insane. Picked my Mom up at 9:40 (doesn't open till 10) and the lot was already full with people waiting for spots.

They had a special line for just bottled water and it was a good 200 people deep. People with 3-4 each of paper towels and toilet paper. Sold out of bleach, lysol, and disinfectant wipes. Every check-out was open and 20 people deep.

People are insane with this. It felt like the end of the world the way people were shopping.

Even if healthy people aren't dying, they are still carries of the virus. So if a healthy person gets the virus, he could end up infecting somebody (like their parents/grandparents) who are more at risk.

You should say it “can” cause lung damage, just like any serious flu bug can. Not everyone with this virus is getting permanent lung damage

I've only been to Vail once so I don't have many tips, but I would say try to go on a week day rather than the weekend, if possible. It gets insanely busy on the weekends.

While I think there is a lot of mass hysteria going on now (in part thanks to the media), there hasn’t been a lot of discussion about the R0 (R-naught) value of the virus. This number represents the number of people that will catch the virus from 1 infected person. This Corona virus has a currently estimated R0 of 2.2 (i.e. 1 infected person can be expected to infect 2.2 more). The flu has a R0 of 1.3. Basically, this virus is more contagious than the flu with a higher mortality rate. IMHO, I don’t think we need to panic, but, current efforts at containment need to be aggressively pursued.

I live right outside of Seattle, they’re not testing nearly as many people as they should. Not even close. If you think there’s actually only ~400 cases, you might be under estimating this.

It works both ways. There could be thousands of cases in the population that have gone undetected because the infected recovered and all is well.

It would be nice if hyping it up helped keep it from being as bad as some chicken littles are predicting.

My sincerest hope is that in a couple of months all this attention will shift to something as equally important that has a lethal track record, the opioid plague.

Sadly, there are those who debate themselves into a position of needing Coronavirus to be really bad. Just so they can be right & say 'I told you so'. And of course, really bad means lots of people die.

Seems like a really crappy position to be in.

And I don't blame KRoc one bit for what he is doing. He knows his immune system has been compromised, why risk it?

And if you are a racer at this level, how much does it hurt to miss going to dealers and signing autographs - something you've done about a million times in the past?

Cool... thanks! Yeah we are going during the week... kids have spring break so the Denver SX and ski trip works out awesome.

Honestly though... if this virus stuff continues we might have to cancel. They are talking about closing schools around here.

Just an update. The comedy club was packed as usual last night in downtown Salt Lake. Big Jay Oakerson destroyed. Nearby the Utah Jazz played. Also packed.
