I think it's hard to say. Yes RC was awesome, but lets face it after Windham, Reed, and Stewart the rest of the guys don't compare to the top 5 now. I think the top 10 now is hands down faster than the top 10 in say 2005.

I really don't know if RC would dominate Tomac, Musquin, or Roczen, but I'm fairly certainly he wouldn't go 24-0 in this day and age.

BUT James and Chad both spent 5 minutes of that moto trying to pull their bikes out of a fender-deep rut on a slimy hillside. So it's not like RC just flat out ran them all down on blazing speed.
And rc raced the same track. Not his fault they got stuck.

You must be fucking joking. Did you ever see RC run at a national in person? That guy always had another gear. He was ridiculous fast in downhills and rough tracks that would make most people shit just attempting to even ride on. When he paced at the end of a moto with a 30 second gap he was faster than 99% of the people who ever raced.
I stand behind my opinion, and yes i saw Ricky race in person plenty.

Do i think Reed in 05 would be closer to RC at the end of a moto than say Tomac or Kenny today? I will go with the later.

Do i think RC would win, prrobbaky more often than not. Do i think he would dominate, not so sure.
I think he would have had his hands a little more full now.

How about RC vs Everts in the Lommel sand in 03? Or is Stefan Everts also not a worthy competitor to the current top 5 in America?

Reed past his prime gave Villopoto and Dungey fits outdoors in 2011, and both Ryans would beat the current field handily. RC raced Reed in his prime and went 24-0 against the dude...

RC would absolutely crush the current field.

Na, prime RC isn't losing a race like that to anyone. Herlings would break himself in half trying to keep up.

While reed is a good comparison. Especially in 2011, I dont think its an end all be all.

RC was great, dont get me wrong. I just think there is stiffer competition as a whole now. I can guarantee you he wouldnt go 24-0 against guys like Tomac and Roczen.

Look at everything that has changed since Rc raced, bikes are better, nutrition is more important and training. I think RC benefited from taking his job more seriously than most of his competition and for having huge balls. He might still have huge balls but i think the greater emphasis on training today would give him more pressure each week (wouldnt be winning by 20-30 margins week in and week out).

Hypotheticals are great, now if we can only get 2013 Villo vs 2011 Reed vs 2016 healthy Dungey vs 2015 Tomac vs 2016 Kenny vs 95 McGrath vs 2008 Stewart vs 2005 Carmichael vs 2018 Herlings vs 2017 Cairoli vs 2005 Everts vs...

Not dungey and don’t forget tomac handed dungey his ass multiple times. RC would not dominate this field like he did back then. Roczen went 21 out of 24. Also never seen RC put 1:20+ on second place especially when that 2nd place is a legend like dungey. Dungey had almost a 30 sec lead on 3rd? I’m a huge RC fan but you guys are minimizing how good our top guys are.

I think RC has/had an intangible quality of either willing himself to win or hating to lose more than anyone else. All the racers have this, just him more perhaps.

I actually used to enjoy it if he lost a moto 1 then could see what would happen moto 2. I’m assuming he flamed out in the truck between moto’s then would put a beat down next moto. He tried to never give other guys hope in mx.

RC had something Tomac will never have. A smoldering will to win that burst into flame every time the gate dropped. Not once in a while. Every time.

He was never content to ride around in 7th place hoping for a better 2nd moto. His confidence and determination were seriously on another level. For four years in the 450 class, people pulling up to the gate and seeing that number 4 sitting there were half beaten already. There'll never be another like him.

10 straight fucking outdoor titles across 125 250 and 450 two strokes -four stroke transition adapting and never losing a single season. Comparisons are cute at best and end there; as far as American Motocross goes the man will never ever be touched.

I remember Carmichael coming off the track pissed, but he won by 30 seconds! He was pissed that his settings were a bit off, not allowing him to go faster!

I’ll love to be able to take that bet.

Nobody wanted it more that that little red headed SOB... and it showed.

James probably wanted it just as bad but couldn’t keep that pace without the crashes

I have been watching/riding/racing motocross for over 40 years at this point, and I have NEVER witnessed anyone ride a bike with more intensity and a will to WIN than RC. He absolutely hammered the track and the competition and routinely pulled off more incredible moves and saves than seemed humanly possible. James Stewart was incredible as well, and to see these two racing against each other was as good as it's ever gotten.People who never saw it in person just don't know what they missed! As others have said: just look at the record books.

And how many people in the industry said they have never seen anyone go as fast as tomac on his crf? All of them. I’m not trying to take away from RC but lapping everyone in the mud is nothing to lapping everyone on a dry track. yes I’ve seen him in person. There has only been two races in history that has shown speed that doesn’t look possible, RV at mxdn on his 250 and tomac at hangtown on his crf.

I think DeCoster said it best when he stated he’s never seen anyone with as much heart as RC. The guy hated to lose and would do whatever it took to beat you. And the fact that he changed his riding style to match JS7’s speed at the end of his career and still win shows his determination.

Ever seen RC crush Everts in the sand at Zolder on a Honda 250 2 smoker while Everts was riding a works 500cc 4-stroke? Because it happened.
