Im probably going to buy a 19 yz 250 f on a run out deal later this year...thats if they have any left overs to run out..
The 19 250 f is the top selling mx bike in Australia so far this year. I got to put in a few laps on one...easily the best bike I have ever ridden...and Im really a two stroke guy...dont like my 450 all that much..
I want a new 125 as well..so I would be very pleased if Yamaha releases an all new model!

“Other” Japanese bikes are no longer the baseline or best in class when it comes to weight- the KTM is. So not sure why you’re comparing the Yamaha to other Japanese bikes..no one cares.

That being said I never realized how heavy my YZ450 was until rode a KTM 450 ....it literally felt 50+ lbs lighter. I like how a light bike feels..that is my preference.

For sure no bike is going to make me a winner...but then again suspension work and other mods won’t make anyone else win either, but that’s not the point.

Well , Ive been doing some laps lately on my mate's 2019 ktm 350...and they are about..what? A pound lighter than their 450?
Going back to back with that thing and my 17 yz 450...no comparison..the ktm is and feels so much lighter its ridiculous..its like riding a 125 by comparison..
Yeah I know my bike isnt the new generation..but the 17 is actually a bit lighter than the 18 / 19"s.
I would like to get a ride on the current ktm 450...I did get a few laps in on a 19 yz 450...its much improved on the old generation bike but it still feels big and heavy..especially to me as I have had the forks and shock on my 450 lowered internally which actually makes a noticeable improvement on how it feels tipping into corners and making quick direction changes..
I don't belittle the weight difference between the ktm and Yamaha in any way...to me it is instantly noticable..and a great feeling...doesn't mean im about to run out and buy a ktm though...
Im not really a 450 guy...I like having one....but its not my favorite bike...I'll probably never buy another one...but if I were to, it would likely be the KTM unless the Yamaha were to find a way to drop about 15 pounds in weight..

I said I love the Yamaha. Only thing I can think of for improvement is it being lighter. If you don’t notice 5 pounds on a bike, you’re not riding it very well.

If history is any indication, you’re best off getting a deal on a 19. Manufacturers rarely do back to back overhauls of a bike.

It is not the weight that makes the 350 feel light, it is the less rotational mass

I love my 19 250F, and have 3 buddies who went and bought one after doing one moto on mine. That being said, idk what they will come up with for 21 to upgrade this bike even further besides a better battery. Also If Yamaha did come out with a 350 I would definitely buy one!

You can’t compare a 350 to a 450 fairly, the 350 is going to feel way lighter just due to less rotating inertia. It’s the same reason a 125 feels way lighter than a 250 even if they’re close to the same weight. Also the same reason an Alta can weight 270 lbs and still feel as light as a 250f.

The thing the Yamaha has going for it is a very lively engine, which makes the bike feel lighter than it is. Ive ridden a new ktm and it wasn’t nearly as stark of a difference as some of you want to believe, part of the reason being the slower reving engine.

Coming off a 17 KTM 450 and going to a 19 YZ 450 I cant say I noticed a difference in actual weight on the track. In some cases, the "heavier" feel actually improves stability and feeling planted.

I bet the 250 gets alot of minor engine refinements that may go unmentioned. Fast guys down here in Texas have had a ton of issues with the 19 YZ's (particularly the countershaft). Rumor is the Star team is running 18 motor in the 19 frame.
