In my eyes and my less than valuable opinion the championship would not change one bit. It will still be a contrived unimportant victory. Racing is and always should be a single event sport. Championships are for promoters and sponsors. The only benefit of a championship to racers is the big check at the end. Any time a racer is compelled to think there is a bigger prize than being first to the checkered flag, something is very wrong.

I would chuckle a little. Going from 2017 where everyone wanted an * and the points system changed. To now being the one with an *..

For the record if he wins the title, then he wins the title no asterisk, no luck, nothing but stringing together a solid 17 race series.

Let’s say Cooper has a mechanical or an injury or gets taken out by Savagty resulting in a DNF. How is the title perceived? Is there a comparison from the past of this happening? I know at the end of the day the champion is the champion but I am not certain I view Eli as the true champion.
Then you're watching the wrong sport, dude.

If I was jumping a triple and a meteor came down from the sky and obliterated the second jump right as I launched the takeoff, would I still be jumping a triple or would it be considered just a double?

As a former racer I kind of agree with your logic. It is about winning races to me. Championships are nice but that is often a different strategy.

I would like to see some kind of recognition and payout for most wins. It sure would make things more exciting each week.

This year Cooper has been the exception. I think he is racing pretty much all out. How he battled Eli in the heat race and then pushed hard to get all the way to second place in Denver. The guy is not coasting at all. And yes, there is a lot of risk in doing that for him.

Wouldn’t matter because it is a points championship. Last race the points leader is the champion. Simple, no asterisks or anything else.

Eli may end up with more wins then Cooper. How that can be viewed as undeserving is absurd.

Eli is down on points by his own doing, how many times this season did his desire look off? Several times.
How many crashes.....

If Cooper wins he deserves it hands down, same if Eli comes back and wins.

The view will look pretty good to Eli with that fat check deposited in his account.

Look at F1. There's a primary and secondary driver. Some of them follow team orders. Some don't. Some people might not like it, but that's reality.

I feel sort of the same way for Supercross. While we'd like to think it's an absolutely level playing field, in reality, the goal is to win races and championships. These things are incredibly hard to win. If they get a little help along the way, I don't see it as criminal as some in here seem to view it.

Pretty sure I remember Coop pulling over for Martin in a 250 outdoor race and fessed up to it on the podium (tongue/in cheek of course) but still let us know he did pull over for him.

It isn't who wins the most races, it's the guy with the highest score at the end that wins. It's a pretty easy concept. Eli has not scored the most points in the last 2 seasons, so per the rules has not won the championship in either 2017 or 2018, thus he does not deserve to be the champion.

Yes he can win, yes he is fast. What he can't do is put a season together without a major malfunction/s that causes him to lose the championship. That is why he isn't deserving of the title.

Not trying to be a dick, but the facts are the facts, you can spin this 10,000 different ways and the results are still the same.

If you want a different result, change the points to have race wins a more weighted factor in the end results. I say give points for fast qualifier, laps led, holeshots, most passes, whatever makes the racing better.

This year is different than the last 2 in the sense that Eli hasn't had a mechanical or missed a race because of injury (less excusable than a mechanical). He has been caught and passed, and straight up beat on more than one occasion by the guy that looks like he is going to win it. 2017 and 2018 both had instances where you could look and say "Eli caught a bad break there that was at least a little out of his hands." That scenario doesn't really exist this year. Webb may not be the clear cut fastest guy as we wind down, but he certainly was for a majority of them.

For sure. Webb has just beaten ET this year. He is the better racer. ET just had a few bad races, The 12th and a couple 6th's where he went backwards. Turn those into 3rd's and it is a different series.

Cooper has earned it for sure. Love how aggressive he was at Denver when he really did not have to be. Probably gave DeCoster a heart attack.

I love the last part of your post.

Weigh the points more for wins. Maybe 28 points for a win and leave the rest the same? Give a point for winning the heat.

And maybe five points at the end to the rider who wins the most races in the year. Or one point for each win you had during the season. Would make it way more exciting and dynamic!

The system we have now kind of creates boring scenarios more than encouraging riders to win races.

You are missing my point that goes to the title of the thread. IF Eli manages to win this title, he is just as deserving.

Sorry, it wasn't clear to me that you meant IF he wins. If he scores the most points of course he deserves the championship.

I really really don’t like Tomac but if he wins the title it’s his fair and square.
