Riders That Don't Watch SX/MX

This has always been something that's puzzled me, but I also grew up watching every sx/mx race possible. Any of you ride or race but don't watch sx or mx? Or maybe know someone that rides but doesn't watch sx/mx? I've just never understood this as I've always been on one side of the fence and would love some more insight on the subject so that I can gain some understanding.

People on here talk about the racing, so I’m guessing if every user here responded to your question, 99.9% of them watch the races too.

My wife was that way. I met her when we both were roadracing and I was shocked that she didn't follow any of the racing or have any interest in watching it.

Ive only knew 1 guy he would just say i would rather spend my time riding or racing myself than watching.
I love watching myself and following the series, stats , fantasy, just all of it , but yeah it is a rather interesting subject i would wonder if there are a lot of riders that ride but dont follow the racing, and or maybe dont know about this forum.
I heard Daniel Blair say before that he did his own little survey asking people at SX races, if they had ever heard of vital or pulp , and he said it was shocking to him how many people hadnt.

In the late 90's and most of the 00's I did a lot of racing (off road), but during that time didn't pay much attention to SX (and even less attention to MX). I was familiar with a few of the top names, but didn't really know what was going on.

I’ve always followed the gp’s and American mx and sx, although in the 90s it was played over here months later on the middle of the night on channel 5. My dad is the same but my sister who has rode/raced since she was 6 has never had any interest in following a pro series, she still rides now mainly enduro but couldn’t name any top professionals. I always found it strange that you could love a sport so much but not care about watching the guys at the top level.

I only watch SX because it is cold, and there is nothing better to do on a Saturday night this time of year. I never watch the outdoors live. If it is nice out, I’d rather be riding.

Count me out for watching if they keep racing on these arenacross tracks.... Seriously, these tracks are a joke now days- too short with not nearly enough dirt used for obstacles... Looks like Feld doesn't even care anymore.....

More than a few of my riding friends don't have much more than a tangential interest in Pro racing.

I have always been a hardcore fan, so I can't relate or really even understand. But this is definitely a thing.

I feel that our media tends to dramatically underserve this market.

We would race the amateur days at pro nationals and most of the time we left Sunday morning just after pro practice. People would ask ,, you not staying for the pros? Hell no we got out of there before mad traffic jam leaving after the events, and the fact we was there since Thursday. Plus the 3 hour drive home.

We went to race not watch races.

Now that I have dvr I try to watch the races, but I only even know a few guys and I almost never watch any of it but the 450 main.

None of the guys I race with watch sx/mx on tv or attended a pro race live. The pro racing side of the sport is a very small percentage of those who race and buy bikes/gear/etc.

This is the first year I haven't watched SX live. I have crappy internet and piss poor computer/tech skills. I'd be so frustrated trying to make it work...it would probably end my 39 year marriage. I keep up via Vital. It's not optimal but sorta like methadone for a dirt bike junkie. You'd figure by 2019 there would be a "motorcycle" channel. MX, SX, GP, Enduro, Trials, Flat track, Speedway, Ice racing, hill climb, MotoGp, everything two wheeled...even bicycles.

Lol...Steve has spent more time backing up in plastic shit boxes than most of have spent eating hot meals. Most of the food at the tracks maximize the time in the plastic shit boxes. If he didn't have his trailer for some respite...he'd probably lose his mind. Attending a race or three a year is fun...living on the circuit is a job.

I know 4 guys who ride every weekend and race vintage bikes but never watch supervross, but they watch nationals. I only watch about half these days because to me, they seem to be getting predictable and boring. I love going to the races and enjoy seeing and hanging out with the people I know. But most Saturday nights I’d rather be with my wife.

I’ve watched two races this year, and went to Atlanta. I work night turn, have a 3.5 year old, live at my mother in laws while building a house, and am trying to get my own stuff ready to get back into riding/ racing. No DVR so if I can watch, cool. If not, I don’t care.

Once I’m in my house I will DVR and always watch them, even if it’s later in the week while working in the garage.

I have a buddy who has raced for years...He couldn’t name anyone in the top ten. Never watches any races.

I also have a co-worker who has never raced/ridden motocross but watches every supercross race...he will spend the first hour every Monday morning during the season talking about the weekends race. BUT never watches any of the outdoors.

Apparently you’ve never seen an actual arena cross track ?

There is way more dirt used to build a SX track, than in the 80’s and 90’s

I only know 1 guy who races and rides but doesn't watch (and follow) SX and MX. But he also has no cable and a flip phone Laughing Me personally ? I gotta watch it, if I miss a round of indoor or outdoor I get depressed. It's a problem.

Weird that someone can be a participant but not a fan. I have a few friends that have never ridden but are hardcore fans of both sx and mx. I have been watching everything I can since the days of the Carlsbad national on the Wild World of Sports.

Half of my riding buddies don't watch. I went for a few years without watching, and it was torture. Never again. If I can't watch a race I stay off the internet until I get home to watch it. Sometimes that's like a week with no Moto entertainment at all. Those are usually my most productive weeks.

Ha! The trailer thing has been fun, but there's nothing particularly easy about it. There are times when if I'm working in it, I have to run the generator about 24/7 to stay cool enough. I also try not to cook much more than microwave meals in it, otherwise it gets too hot. I eat out more than I should, but generally not at the track. Wink

Been attending attending National events since 76, been around a few tracks, stadiums, and domes in my day..... Not afraid of work, I'm very used to it! It's all good.....
