If it was one of the top 6 OEMs re-introducing a 2000 model (like the 2000 suzuki RM 125) as a play bike or one make introductionary class then yes i do think the $1500 advantage would help. Or a new oem but with similar quality in product. Especially if they would only allow standard bikes in this one make class (= no $3k upgrades in forks, engine mods and pipes). And limit running costs by detune/ limit rpms and hp a bit so that lifetime of the engine is improved.
Something like this worked great in karting with the rotax max class.
This bike was worth every single penny I paid for it, and will sell it in the spring to recoup some coin. My son is now on a DRZ-125 ($2700.00 brand new) and my daughter will most likely be getting another 'knock-off', as she doesn't ride much.
My point is, if these cheap bikes get kids interested in the sport, and off electronics, isn't it worth it??
