I'll have to reach into my memory archives for more ...... I've ridden lots of events (MX and Off-road) over the years where a national level pro blasts past you!!!
I was on 85's at the time, started taking school seriously after that...

I have the privilege of knowing a couple of the top factory off road racers and when we go trail riding I am in awe. I am myself an A class off road racer but the level the top pro's ride at is almost indescribable. When they decide to 'go fast' all you can do is try to keep them in site long enough to learn something before they're gone.
What you learn most about the pro's is their line selection, how smooth they are, and the throttle control. Its at a level most of us can't even comprehend.
One time at Glen Helen I pulled JG up Mt Saint Helen(my claim to fame) just to head back down and have him blow passed me in a super soft, deep rutted section at the bottom. Another time a rider went down before the start straight at Glen Helen and RV pulled right up next to me(both of us running #2 and somehow that was the one time my ex didn't snap a picture of me riding).
Was at Perris and went to the inside of a corner thinking I was going pretty fast, only to have Josh Hill go railing around the outside completely laid over standing up. He made me feel like i was standing still. Same day at Perris RD went flying by me on the inside of a sweeper, man that guy was fast and smooth. RV ripped by me hanging off the back of his seat that day also.
Peick went flying by me at Milestone doing some ridiculous jump that I never would have thought was even possible.
I went to some sand pit riding area (I think it may have been Brooksville) and was really struggling and sucking wind from riding in the deep sandy, whooped out trails and sand bowl.
Mind you- I was making this winter trip as a way to get a mega jump on the local competition up north, as well as laying the groundwork for a potential pro career.
So I'm finally getting going, feeling slightly better about myself, when I hear someone behind be just totally pegged. Before I can even turn around, some guy in Fox gear on a Suzuki totally blows by me, lays it sideways while completely wide open into a berm, then just totally sandblasts me with a hailstorm of sand roost.
Before he was completely out of sight (which wasn't long at all) I read the back of his jersey... "Tichenor".
Ron Tichenor was my first barometer of what it would take to race pro and it was rather depressing realizing it probably wasn't in the cards for me...!!!
I thought I was doing pretty good until Dean flew over me doing an unbelievable quad jump in the back. That sure knocked me down a notch or two...
I was so happy riding there until Copper Webb (training for the MXON in a yamaha 450) passed me in one of the uphills, he crossed in front of me and almost kill me with a ton of rust..................pain level was so hard that I needed to stop in the top of the hill...............after some time I was smiling and enjoying my pain.......felt great to be in the same track with an AMA PRO at the top of his game.............................a dream come true!!!............fuck yeah!!
We were on the same track at the same time and thats about it
I start looking at my bike and think did soneone mess with it, cause i think im going fast and have the throttle screwed when obviously im not.
We will see soon as Graham Jarvis is in town and be riding trails i know really well, some are full rock gardens on steep slopes, gonna be ugly.......for me to see how poorly im doing that.
ive got tape to hold my tail as it will be firmly bewteen my legs..lol good stuff..
I used to ride wells rd wednesday years ago and knew cam taylor and his group. Lucky i could use the but im old excuse to heal my shattered ego..
Pit Row
I was out at Palm Ave. in the late 80s riding one of the tracks, and saw Dean Sundahl coming down the roughest hill on the track at freeway speed. When you see someone going that fast on something the size of a sofa, there's nothing to do but pull off the track and watch the magic happen.
I've been made to look stupid by the Hahns at Jeeps MC club here in Wichita as well. Hell, Vital brother Mark Gifford made me look like a squid at every race....he's a crafty old pro.
mx track. right hand sweeper. click to 3rd letting it eat lol. cant remember his name, he has scored national points and has made big bike sx mains . unknown rider went underneath me making it shorter and faster. line choice and momentum. I actually thought " and he gets lapped"
