About 88 or so I was riding a round of the Nat Hare Scrambles at Hollister - Heard a bike coming fast from behind, side hill and lots of small shrubs and trees with only two narrow trails - or so I thought! Terry Cunningham soon over took me about 10 ft up on a trail I had not seen. He was there and gone in a matter milliseconds!

I'll have to reach into my memory archives for more ...... I've ridden lots of events (MX and Off-road) over the years where a national level pro blasts past you!!!

Happens all the time here. A. I am impressed with the speed B. I think that the line I am in sucks cause I moved out of the main line.

Larry Ward came out to the practice track once for a pig pickin'. It was mid 2000's and IIRC he was on his Moto xxx Honda 450. guy wheelies through the entire track. When he actually tried he was over jumping everything by a mile, because why slow down.

I was on 85's at the time, started taking school seriously after that...

Desert racing with a buddy and we were jamming! I mean we both thought that we had our A+ riding game, 1st and 2nd place then all the sudden through the sage brush on the side of the trail... David kamo came fucking flying by us... we both got back to the truck and were in aw with how fast and smooth he was in the bushes off the trail!!Woohoo Woohoo Woohoo
David and his wife Rhiannon are two of the nicest people you could ever meet. Everyone generally is in the off road community.

I have the privilege of knowing a couple of the top factory off road racers and when we go trail riding I am in awe. I am myself an A class off road racer but the level the top pro's ride at is almost indescribable. When they decide to 'go fast' all you can do is try to keep them in site long enough to learn something before they're gone.

What you learn most about the pro's is their line selection, how smooth they are, and the throttle control. Its at a level most of us can't even comprehend.

Growing up in So Cal I've had the pleasure of being on the track at the same time as many pros. Grant, RV, RD, Josh Hill, T Hahn, Peick and many more.

One time at Glen Helen I pulled JG up Mt Saint Helen(my claim to fame) just to head back down and have him blow passed me in a super soft, deep rutted section at the bottom. Another time a rider went down before the start straight at Glen Helen and RV pulled right up next to me(both of us running #2 and somehow that was the one time my ex didn't snap a picture of me riding).

Was at Perris and went to the inside of a corner thinking I was going pretty fast, only to have Josh Hill go railing around the outside completely laid over standing up. He made me feel like i was standing still. Same day at Perris RD went flying by me on the inside of a sweeper, man that guy was fast and smooth. RV ripped by me hanging off the back of his seat that day also.

Peick went flying by me at Milestone doing some ridiculous jump that I never would have thought was even possible.

I was down in Florida for the winter when I was 19 years old... I was traveling around, hitting races and practicing anywhere I could in a Chevy van with a brand new KX250.

I went to some sand pit riding area (I think it may have been Brooksville) and was really struggling and sucking wind from riding in the deep sandy, whooped out trails and sand bowl.

Mind you- I was making this winter trip as a way to get a mega jump on the local competition up north, as well as laying the groundwork for a potential pro career.

So I'm finally getting going, feeling slightly better about myself, when I hear someone behind be just totally pegged. Before I can even turn around, some guy in Fox gear on a Suzuki totally blows by me, lays it sideways while completely wide open into a berm, then just totally sandblasts me with a hailstorm of sand roost.

Before he was completely out of sight (which wasn't long at all) I read the back of his jersey... "Tichenor".

Ron Tichenor was my first barometer of what it would take to race pro and it was rather depressing realizing it probably wasn't in the cards for me...!!!

Kid named Endicott lapped me twice in my first real Moto on his dad's track in a 90 minute Moto. passed me like nothing the first time on his 85. Second time around I hear him coming, start going 110% , blocking and what not, even jump the big double after avoiding it the whole time. I hear anganganagan above me while I'm in the air. Look up and he is 10 ft above me throwing me the bird cuz he tripled over my head. Have felt completely mortal on a bike ever since lol. Thought I was fast haha

Have a national level offroad pro go by you in the woods. Feel like you're pushing pretty hard then any of the top XC1/2 GNCC guys or the many fast local pros that used to race national enduros or the like come past you on the back wheel with it dancing all over the place and then take some absurd line you never thought to even look...it makes you re-evaluate life.

Dean Wilson on the Pala Main track a few years ago, the year he won his 250 outdoor title.

I thought I was doing pretty good until Dean flew over me doing an unbelievable quad jump in the back. That sure knocked me down a notch or two...

Two years ago I went to Glen Helen (a dream come true from a MX fan from Chile), I rented a bike and rode in the track of my dreams.

I was so happy riding there until Copper Webb (training for the MXON in a yamaha 450) passed me in one of the uphills, he crossed in front of me and almost kill me with a ton of rust..................pain level was so hard that I needed to stop in the top of the hill...............after some time I was smiling and enjoying my pain.......felt great to be in the same track with an AMA PRO at the top of his game.............................a dream come true!!!............fuck yeah!!

First time at Glen Helen, 5 years ago, on a Thusday practice day got passed by many but my favorites were MC and RC was cool as hell. However, You’ll never catch me saying I rode with MC and RC that so many people love to do....
We were on the same track at the same time and thats about it

I raced and beat Steve Lamson plus a few other national pros at a local money race back in 2006. I know Steve was retired by then but it felt really good to beat a former national champ! Good times.

Great stories people.

I start looking at my bike and think did soneone mess with it, cause i think im going fast and have the throttle screwed when obviously im not.

We will see soon as Graham Jarvis is in town and be riding trails i know really well, some are full rock gardens on steep slopes, gonna be ugly.......for me to see how poorly im doing that.

ive got tape to hold my tail as it will be firmly bewteen my legs..lol good stuff..

I used to ride wells rd wednesday years ago and knew cam taylor and his group. Lucky i could use the but im old excuse to heal my shattered ego..

Lance Vincent passed me like I was parked, thought he was going into the woods but nah, he absolutely shredded a corner and disappeared.

Mike Beirer passed me at Corrona on a long fast uphill, my thoughts was that it was a cheater bike.

We immediately pulled off and watched.
That's really all you can do when that happens.

I was out at Palm Ave. in the late 80s riding one of the tracks, and saw Dean Sundahl coming down the roughest hill on the track at freeway speed. When you see someone going that fast on something the size of a sofa, there's nothing to do but pull off the track and watch the magic happen.

About 5 years ago here in New Mexico Jason Anderson blew past me in a corner and scrubbed a 70ft table only a few feet off the ground. It was pretty sick.

Ryan villapoto passed me 3 weeks ago at milestone on his warm up laps messing around. While I was going full tilt. He passed me like I was dead stopped

Kyle Regal blow my doors off through the sand whoops at the Bonita 100 in North Texas. The smell of his race gas was awesome as well.

About '98 or '99 a guy I worked with built a harescrambles type track on some land he inherited not far from Stillwater OK. He invited me to come check it out. I got there and unloaded and noticed a nondescript van in the pit area but paid it no mind. I burned a couple of laps but when I would get back towards the pits which was a moto type section the guy from the van would pull out and get up close and personal. Block passing, throwing elbows, roosting me every straight. I just rode a few more loops and when I came in to load up I asked my buddy, "Did you see that asshole fucking with me?" He laughed and said, "That was Guy Cooper....he said your corner speed was decent but you can't jump for shit".

I've been made to look stupid by the Hahns at Jeeps MC club here in Wichita as well. Hell, Vital brother Mark Gifford made me look like a squid at every race....he's a crafty old pro.

Living in WI, don't get the opportunities to ride with pros like a lot of you guys. In the early '90s I went to my first pro national at Red Bud. Get there early to watch practice and see some local pros that I considered fast. Seeing them (the locals) not qualify, makes you realize how talented the "real" pros are!

woods race 3rd gear decent trail. not too nasty. so speed is higher than most sections. scott plessinger looked like a deer on fast forward through the woods beside me. unreal vision to process to scan and apply that fast.

mx track. right hand sweeper. click to 3rd letting it eat lol. cant remember his name, he has scored national points and has made big bike sx mains . unknown rider went underneath me making it shorter and faster. line choice and momentum. I actually thought " and he gets lapped" Blink . crazy.
