1. Trey was never afraid you push the limit and for that he has my respect. 2. He loved racing. You could just tell he wasn't in it just for the money and for that he has my respect. 3. He seemed like a really nice guy off the track so tip of the cap to the 41 and all he has done for this sport. Enjoy retirement!

I feel like whatever he takes up in retirement - even if its golf - he's gonna get hurt doing it and end up in the hospital.
If you'd retire from posting things like that my head wouldn't hurt.

I for one am happy with this announcement.

Trey will go on to MUCH bigger and better things.
It was fun watching him race while it lasted.

I remember when trey came on to the scene and beat villopoto straight up for the 250sx East title, that was crazy. He always seemed like a genuinely nice person. Then I met his former mechanic Brent and he had nothing but wonderful things to say about working with trey... then I became a fan for life.

Enjoy retirement Trey!!! You earned it!

It's a wise move. You had the feeling lightning would strike or some random catastrophe would happen as soon as he got near a motorcycle, track, or anything moto-related,

I agree with you. Trey has always been one of my favorite riders, but he has spent more time on the sideline than on the gate for the last years. It was hard to watch him getting injured over and over again, so this decission doesn't surprise me at all.

Thank you Trey and good luck for whatever the future holds.

I bet he would still be on the team if they didn't need to make some room for new-comers. Take it easy Trey guy, thanks for those few great years of racing.

Now here comes Barcia...

Canard is a true champion. In titles and in heart.

He rallied like hell to come back against Pourcel in 2010 and the injuries he experienced throughout his career. I hope he enjoys retirement, he certainly earned it.

I'll always remember him stuffing RV at the finish line for the 250 SX championship. Wow! Trey was truly, like RC called Andrew Short the "Smiling Assassin".

A top racer with shithouse luck, best of luck to him for the future
It's a bummer that he got beat to hell so many times but you can't blame it all on bad luck. Don't get me wrong though I was always cheering for him to do well.

He is a great guy and very likable. I am sure he will find success in his post racing years.

The guy has has been through alot, both on and off the track. Sad deal but it's a good call to hang it up before he gets hurt really bad.

That has to be one of the most remarkably wise, mature and emotionally intelligent decisions a professional athlete has ever made.

My hats off to Trey. He gave some remarkable performances and, for a time, was really one of the only people that could give James Stewart a run for his money outdoors (where real motocross occurs). Some of those battles are the best ever.

Cheers to a remarkable athlete and human.

One of my absolute favorite all time riders, when he was on, he was unstoppable! But... Glad to see him still be able to walk away from the sport while he could.

Congrats to him. He did a great career racing! It is probably the right time, going out healthy. It was a pleasure to see him battle upfront, throwing huge scrubs, and I am sure he will enjoy his time weither it is at the pool party or in the industry since he is much liked by everyone. Thanks!

Sad to think the "rash of injuries" started after he was landed on during SX. It was a brutal, brutal accident and injury, the fact he returned from that was amazing, unfortunately the injuries just continued from there Sad

It is sad not to see his name on the screen or hear it called by the announcers, though I am glad he did not get an every worse injury trying to push past what he could realistically handle.

Yea, that's a defining moment for me to remember Trey too. No hype, who is this guy putting the hurt to Villopoto!

Trey, has been my favorite racer since he's been in the 450 class. I'm pretty relieved to hear of his decision. I wish him the best and know he will have a great life during this new chapter.

Being an Okie, I hope to see him preach someday and see more appearances around the Oklahoma mountain bike community too Smile

Looks like Trey will be announcing his retirement today per Racerx. Always a great rider to have on the circuit but he has had enough devastating injuries than I'd ever care to see one person go through. I wish him the absolute best.
Probably the right decision but man he can haul ass. Kari should be very proud of him... One tough sob.... No offense Kari.
