It would seem US fans don't much care for anything beyond their borders, something I feel permeates far beyond just MX. Slowly become more alienated from the rest of the world.
said the guy who doesn't have to pony up half a million to "host" the event

It would be nicely attended if it were to be held at Red Bud for instance but they are way to smart to pay a kings ransom to Youthstream just to hold the event.

Here is how I think it went. I know there were some people from GH attending MXDN in Italy. They tried to negotiate, but Luongo is too greedy, so they said fuck it. Imagine all that money that was put in to organizing GPs there. If it`s anything like Kegums, then you have to buy multiple GP`s and then you can buy MXDN.
I bet GH people are not happy. But all that Luongo cares about is his own pockets.

What you say isn't completely true. Remember that the GP became to expensive for the people from Teutschenthal? The fans where very upset and few weeks later both parties met again. YS lowered their price because it was he calls a historic venue... So don't say he only cares about his pockets. He knows that without fans their is nothing to gain for those pockets anymore. But off course the MXON is his biggest product, his most valuable product too. So give it to Glen Helen for the very cheap price of 500.000 to see that their are only 10.000 people that would suck monkey balls.

Well since it was to be held in the US, they should find another venue that can hold it in the US.

I highly doubt anyone in USA will pay 1.2 million ransom out of his own pocket. If, let`s say, Monster comes up with the cash, I could see it happening. In Kegums government paid 1.2 million and to top that it cost near a million for other expanses. With how much everything costs and high wages in USA, I don`t even want to think of number it would cost in USA.

Redbud is an excellent venue for such an event, it sucks that it will likely never happen. I think that being close to Indiana and Illinois makes it a fairly reasonable drive for a large amount of people.

Yep. Nobody cares about an MXGP race here... but MXDN they definitely care about. Sad. If they host it in Europe again our riders shouldn't go.
You can't really say that mate, you guys had the mxon in 2010 at Colorado, if what your saying is the case then you better wave good bye to Australia New Zealand Russia Ireland Japan etc... who have never had a mxon let alone one 6 years ago...

MONSTER ENERGY FIM MOTOCROSS OF NATIONS IN GLEN HELEN CANCELLED

MONACO (Principality of Monaco), 27 September 2016 - Mr Giuseppe Luongo, Youthstream President, and Mr Bud Felkamp, President of the Glen Helen Raceway, had a meeting at the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations in Maggiora and in common agreement they have decided to not organize the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations in Glen Helen in 2017.

Glen Helen Raceway and Youthstream have worked in close cooperation over the last 2 years and both entities have invested serious funds for the organization of the MXGP of USA but despite the quality of the organization, the excellent racing and the massive media coverage the fan attendance was much lower than expected and also much lower than what this event deserves.

For such a prestigious event which deserves and needs an outstanding fan participation the risk is too high, and this is the main reason why it has been decided in common agreement to not organize the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations in 2017 in Glen Helen. If the situation changes in the future both parties would be keen to work together again.

The meaningless last round of the GP's (much like the last round for American Moto this year), when the championships are handled and most U.S. guys don't show, has nothing to do what MXON could be. I guess American's don't care about anything other than Supercross, right? Oh wait.......

Or Glamis or Buttercup on Thanksgiving weekend.

100% natural course with 100-200 foot dune gaps and bottomless sand with no grading, no tractors no nothing.
Thats what people want right? They can jump the canal or go for a swim as a water crossing.

Charge entrance fees for all going...what 150K people?

The best part is, if its windy, Saturdays course and Sundays course will be a new course!

If this is not replaced with another US venue, then I think the US should say F it and refuse to race it anymore.

Do any of you really blame Youthstream!!?? This is the biggest event of the year and it is gaining mass appeal inside and out of the sport because of the crazy Woodstock type environment and mental MX fans from every nation. The Glen Helen GP and it's attendance has obviously scared the powers that be and they do not want to lose the momentum the last two massively attended MXoN's has created.

I do think it will be in the US, I think Youthstream knows they need the USA's involvement and taking yet another MXoN away will not help that. I would love to see it at Red Bud, but I'm hearing whispers that Charlotte Motor Speedway is a strong possibility.

I really hope it will still be held in the US. Would be a pretty shitty move towards US fans that have been looking forward to this since it was announced to have it moved to let's say France or Italy again.

What about Southwick? Remember hearing back when Grondahl took it over that they were going to try and hold events other than just nationals there, possibly GP races.

Did you see the support from Americans fans over the weekend? Americans don't care about a European championship coming to their country because they have their own 17 and 12 race series' to worry about. MXoN is a big deal as it's a chance to do something for your country.

Its pretty ridiculous that they base it off of having low attendance at the GH USGP... did they really expect that much of a turnout? It was the last race with half the field competing and championships wrapped up.

From my spectator perspective, i live in corona, ~40min away from GH, and the USGP had so little appeal that even with free tickets i decided to stay home and watch netflix with the gf. I dont really understand what they were expecting. In my opinion, this race had about as much appeal as a hot summer nights race at Perris. Along with that i know a total of 5 people that went to the USGP, compared to a national theres closer to 50-100 friends and acquantances that attend. Hell i was more bummed about missing the Slam this weekend than i was for deciding not to go the USGP, all that aside even the National doesnt have as much spectator pull as i would say DITD or Cal classic for me as a local, but i know people from all over the country (washington, carolinas, ohio) that were ready to drop money on a ticket and flight instantly when they went on sale for the MXON.

Basically what im saying is almost NOBODY cared about the USGP at GH, whereas an MXON with full attendance and no east coast race the weekend before, and people attending from around the world? Thats what they need to be looking forward to.

Idiot
Matti pretty much sums it up for me .

jeezus .... free tickets and 40 mins away , I would have gone to watch Herlings and Tomac run two practice sessions on the track by themselves . I cant really blame Glen Helen for pulling the plug when I see posts like this . California = poser fans .

Charlotte, I bet they could almost fill half of the 40,000 seats.

So whats the reason for your lack of interest there? You know that appeal thing... I'm just curious and it seems to be totally different with the people around here. Its more like, theres a race with good riders on the line, so lets go hang around there. No matter what. I attended couple nats too and I think the racing is almost the same as in the GPs. so what are you missing?

One reason: Ricky Carmichael' good bye to the sport, combined with very strong line up: RC, RV, Ferry. Besides Budds Creek I can't remember a big crowed at an MXON at the USA, the last 20 years.

Yeah, it was alright, nothing spectacular. Camping was empty, attendance on race day was okey, could have been more. Basically felt like a regular GP but with fewer people staying at the track the entire weekend

Budds however was awesome and I have a feeling Unadilla or Red Bud can give us something similiar to Budds Creek

The USA is a big place. People aren't going to spend THOUSANDS of dollars and a week of vacation to go to the desert for a MXGP. Why the hell would we? Doesn't have shit to do with the series being 'beyond their borders'. Get a clue. The MXoN is another story. US fans will travel from all over for MXoN. How many races did you drive 20+ hours to attend this year?
One.

I drove 16 hours one-way to attend the USGP in Charlotte, and it was well worth it.

I've been to nationals and supercross races in the triple digits. I still have a new T-shirt in the package from the cancelled MXoN in San Jacinto in 20002, attended that iffy World Cup of Motocross held in its stead at Glen Helen, was at Budds in '06, covered the '99 Budds Creek USGP for Racer X magazine.. US Opens, Monster Cups, all that....

And being part of the crowd yelling Webb to that come from behind second moto win at Charlotte was an all-timer for me.

Smash cut to Sunday, and went from thrilled to gutted in the seconds between Ando taking the checkered flag and taking one to the head.

And I'm gutted again today, as Sunday's epic battle had rekindled my interest in EVER again braving San Bernadino traffic (the 90 to the 215 being its own kind of 16-hour drive) for a Glen Helen event.
