Thats an 89 correct? That bike had rteally good right side up forks.
Just bought this last weekend and have not gotten a chance to ride it, besides around the block. Hopefully I can take it some place over Thanksgiving. Should be fun.

My best race season ever was on an '84 Suz RM500. ......and yes, the original Full Floater really was that good

Had to steal this from an earlier newmann post! Thanks, man...I needed an out-loud laugh today!
And...that's an accurate statement!
He moved on to a 72. CZ 400, which was about as much a bulletproof tank as any bike ever built, and won a lot of races.
That picture was actually taken at Sleepy Hollow.
And yes-that was an '89 500... I agree the forks were nice on those '89's.
Of course it also helped that the KX-500 seat was like having a sofa cushion underneath you compared to the plank boards on modern bikes!! LOL!!
The kx500 was a tractor, I felt invincible on that thing. It was a bear to start, usually I'd be the last to leave the line, but it was as trusty of a bike as you could ask for. Looking back, I have no idea what my dad was thinking when he thought that'd be a good bike for me to start racing on. Nor do I have any idea how the hell I did fairly decent on that thing in the tight woods around here!
You guys get high on your own supply. Y'all need to cut back.
I just spent today riding my Cr500. My fingers are killing me and my arms are dead, but I was smiling ear to ear all day! It's amazing the hills these bikes can climb, use a little clutch control and they will climb things you wouldn't believe. Huge flywheel weights also help.
I've also ridden well dialed home built Aluminum framed 500s, even better.
But, my 314cc KTM isn't that far behind a 500 power wise, even a modified one. And the end result is just a better bike all around.
The best one I ever rode was about 2 years ago I rode a heavily modified AF500 w/ A Kit suspension, and many smart mods. It was a pussycat and hooked up pretty similar to the fastest hard hitting 450Fs.
Still, it's very special riding a 500 2 stroke if you are a horsepower junkie like I am.
Pit Row
Now i can say I have ridden one.
It wasn't quite a 500, but this ATK406 was a fun bike to ride. It had great suspension and handling, and with some motor work and a pipe and silencer it was pretty fast. Not fast enough here though, Unadilla 91' 500 national, where I was near the back of the pack after every start.

here is my old beast
No problem right?...WRONG! That bike rode me all over that track, I would haul butt down the straights, overshoot the corners, fall over, and wear my arse out trying to kickstart it...get going, repeat........
I'd like to try it again tho.....
Peace,
PS

Literally 20 minutes after that happened we all lined up to race and when they dropped the rock (awesome starting gate lol) My neighbor on the Husky 500 dumped the clutch and that bike literally did half a backflip right on the gate he was straight on his back with the bike on top of him. He walked it home and never rode it again lmao. Now that im older I would love to ride one of the service honda bikes but with the money Im spending on my kid riding now im going to have to hit the lottery or make him quit riding to ever own one and since neither of those will ever happen I wont be that lucky.
