Man that track is absolutely huge! How long did ittake to do one lap on it? Looks like a blast!
I'm not sure on exact lap times, we had a guy with a stop watch/lap counter. Joel and I were consistent with 20 minute laps and he dipped below that a couple times I believe. A portion of the course was "motocross" with the rest being pretty rad off road stuff.

Awesome post!!!

So Scott made you all lay the bikes down at the start..hahahhahh

I live across the valley to the north and can see the track from my place. Had to work this weekend - Damn....saw Scott at the bank Monday ...yes I gave him a hard time, then he had to tell me that the dirt was perfect!!!

1. I'm really blown away you guys threw the bike together so soon without testing. 2. That video of the start had me laughing out loud. I just love how it's the first bike you hear start up. 3. The fact you guys kicked butt on that thing is icing on the cake. 4. As TripleFive said, I bet you guys had the biggest grins on the whole track. I've done similar stuff throughout my life and it is always a blast. My hats off to the both of you.
We were laughing and smiling the WHOLE time. There were a couple sections that you could go flat out (literally) and without exaggerating- bet we hit 80mph. This bike was going to be kind of a joke, but it just rode so well in the rough stuff.

Cool story, bro' (seriously). It sounds like you guys had a lot of fun and that track looks sweet. I recently bought a beat up '98 RM125 that I have similar plans for.

I loved the t-shirt airfilter.

That's freakin' awesome. If it's prepped right, there's probably not a hairline-width of difference between an old bike and the newer ones in terms of capabilities. For a long time Tommy Benolkin would show up and race the expert class on a 6" travel 74 Elsinore and kick most of 'ems asses.

Laps were 9 miles. Me and my buddy did 16 of em. 150 mile day/6hrs... avg. 25mph.
I'm a woods rider, so these are big numbers to me.

nice!!! i had a 93 kdx 200 that was dialed in...such a fun bike...id love smoking guys on 9K bikes setup for offroad on it...thing cornered like it was on rails!! i sold it and built a 03 kx250 for the same kind of riding and i dont really like it,...the old suspension on the kdx handled rocks and chop so good...as long as u didnt jump...my old kdx actually won the 250 class in the baja 1000 in 94..

my 450 (05 rmz) is 8years old too and i prefer it over most of the new ones ive ridden with the exception of an 08+ rmz

Here's a helmet cam of one of the AA riders at the start. Shows Joel for about the first 3 minutes of the race... haha.

SWEET Write up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My dad's best friend used to say "let your riding do the talking." You guys did just that.

Judging from that video it looks like the holy spirit was following you around at first!

Me and a friend were talking about teaming up for one of those endurance races, but we kept arguing about whose bike we were gonna screw up. I think we have an answer. Eyeballing a 93 YZ125 right now...

This thread has inspired me. Some of the most fun I've had racing was offroad on my XR600.. maybe I'll get an older bike like this too!

You should totally go snag the yz. Throw a little money at it and you'll be grinning the ENTIRE time. We had such a blast doing it as a 6 hour- we plan on hitting the next round in May which is a 12 hour race. Definitely need to do a motor tear down between now and then but it's sooo gonna be worth it.

I recently bought a '13 250SX and it's a sweet bike, but not any better (excluding the rear suspension) than my well dialed '08 250SX.

The 2 bikes handle, turn, and stop the same. The '08 feels lighter and w/ a built motor is much faster. The '08 feels slightly wider but you barely notice. The '08 definitely shifts better too. The only places where the '13 is better is over acceleration chop, and it's more skinny and is pretty as well.

I'm glad I have a new bike as it's a hobby and I'm currently building my dream bike and I wouldn't want to begin w/ a 5 year old bike, but buying new bikes isn't really a neccesity on a 2 stroke as they haven't improved much.

Now on a 4 stroke it's a different story. The new ones are SOOO MUCH better than ones from just 5 years ago. Night and day difference.

Awesome story. Lots of guys claim that the new bikes are so dominant. Fact is, they didn't start truly dominating until the best rode 'em.

Thats cool as hell! I bet it was more fun riding that than a new 450.

Very inspiring. Thanks for sharing.

Would be sick to see more MX type guys show up and do the 24 hour. Ty Lacey has been on the winning AA team for the last few years. Don Boespflug (top US finisher at Erzberg) usually is there as well. Good times. Last year was a mudder but it wasnt nearly as bad as 2010. Hoping for good dirt this year.

I was dumb enough to Ironman the 24hr... if you are gonna try offroad, might as well jump in feet first right?
