It won't be long before the 250F's reach 250 two stroke HP numbers. MXA says the 2013 KX hit the dyno at 41 1/2 hp. It had 39 1/2 last year. The KTM had almost 43 HP!!! It is up 7 HP across the board. It did say the KTM has a big gap between second and third and that you need to add one or even two teeth to the rear sprocket. It also said the KTM's power is more in the top end and it is more of a pro rider motor.

Sounds like the power band of a cr125.

Nothing is better than riding a real 250

I know numbers vary from dyno to dyno, but I remember that Dungey's 2009 factory RMZ250f made 43 horspower. Now stock bikes are hitting that. Wow!

all bikes come geared a bit too long...nothing wrong with adding a tooth or two to make 3rd gear pullable around' a track

Damn, if those numbers are correct, I might have to start considering going back to a 250f! Wonder how much the extra horsepower affects reliability!

My brother was talking to a mechanic who got invited to a kawasaki press day. He said that the kx250f is hands down the best stock bike he has ever ridden.

My Husky 144 dyno'd 41hp and it's far from pipey, tons of mid. And it tips the scales at just a hair over 200lbs.

Lol they basically copy/past that paragraph in every review. Seems as tho every bike has too much of a gab between 2nd n 3rd...

Seems the 250F is getting more faster and more reliable. Time to let the 250T race the 250F in the pro class.

More hp out of a 250F prob means more rpm and less service life... Just my opinion.

As I understand it, part of the reason for KTM's new horsepower is a new type of bearing used on the crank.
The bad thing is when it wears out u need to replace the entire crank $$.

Im curious I have a 2013 kaw here im just preping it for the dyno now i will have numbers next week .The MXA dyno has always showed about 6% more hp than my dyno and i have dynos locally that show mine 6% higherthe 2012 kaw was just over 37 on my dyno .In any case theses bikes are getting better every year and with a pipe some tuning and good fuel a rider can make it into a national event

Back when RC went to Suzuki I remember DeCoster stating that they could easily get 55 hp out of the RM250. That must have been a magic number for SX.

That makes sense. Stock, these bikes bring 45hp to 50. Those factory CR250s are fast stock. Yet, increase the hp from 48 to 58? Damm!

Yep a 2stroke is alot easier to get 10 more hp out of the motor than a 4stroke. Although it takes someone that knows how to port a 2stroke correctly to make the power manageable on the track. Still yet a new Ktm or Yz250 would still be competitive in the hands of vilopoto, reed, or any of the top 5 guys.

My Honda Rs125 Dyno's at 45 rwhp, and weighs 155...kinda makes your bike seem heavy and slow.

This was taken from dirt riders test of the 2013 ktm 250 sx-f

In short, some of the changes here include a shorter stroke, larger bore, a new cylinder head layout and a higher rpm range. The new 2013 also has larger ports, a bettered combustion chamber, larger intake valves and new camshafts. On the dyno, KTM claims a power increase of five horsepower. Harnessing all of this extra power are completely new engine cases that are made in a high-pressure die cast instead of a sand cast. This process allows the cases to be of a thinner wall thickness saving tons of weight.

RPM limit is 13,400 and they are using a Pankl crank which is what F1 cars use. Makes some good power but i can only imagine the cost of a rebuild with that crank

I don't see why you would have to replace the crank when doing a bottom end? As far as I understand they have moved to Journal Bearing (or plain bearing) which would be a shell arrangement, you just replace the bearing shells not the crank.

Stock KTM SXF250 2013 revs till 14000!

Roczen and Musquin will have the fastest bikes in the field next year if they get the same stuff Herlings has now.

Pretty impressive.

So soon it will be equivalent to little jr. going from an 80cc machine straight to a 250cc smoker in the mid 1990's?

Why people can't figure out they still have a two-stroke class amazes me.

Thought I remember Roczen saying his SX bike was faster than his GP bike last year?

Makes you wonder if they can get close to 43 hp from a bone stock 250 what they could get from a factory bike. A 50 hp 250f is definitely attainable but would need a hell of a mechanic to keep it in tip top shape.

It makes me wonder how much horsepower they could have gotten out of a 250 two stroke had the kept making them or actually improved them every year. Once KTM comes out with the direct injection two stroke then it will probably be even with 450s in the horsepower range.

You'd look kind of silly on a MX track though.
