ClassCClairVoyant Added a reply to Pro MX Decline in the US?

Good post! I would add that any sport is like a pyramid in that the more participants or larger the (pyramid) base the higher the skill level is at the top. Could be that Tomac is the last great rider this country will produce for a while and even his legacy is in question with his inconsistency.

I owned the '00 thru '03 CR125's and if I remember right, in '02 Honda went with the larger carb (38mm?) and weird intake manifold to get competitive hp. The weird intake being a manifold and stuffer with very small passages. It worked except the bikes had zero low end making them hard to ride for your average rider. To...

I haven't ridden the new two stroke KTM's, but I owned a new 2005 Yamaha YZ 125 (for a short period) and I'll say as kindly as possible it wasn't one of my favorite handling bikes. IMO, the engine and crank were too high in the chassis and the frame was way too stiff. After that debacle, I always look...
Wow! A lot of really great posts and I've been think'in the same things about Tomac ever since he had that meltdown at the MXON a few years ago. As a dumb fan, I want to see every one of these stupidly talented riders perform to their potential. When they don't it is easy to pile on them for what...

ClassCClairVoyant Added a reply to New Racer X Column: Exhaust

Maybe we are overthinking this whole thing... For instance, I used to ride on the ice with my moto bike. There was a local group that would come out and plow the track every week and it was open for anyone to ride. Every hour on the hour they would flag everyone off the track, line 'em up, and drop...
This rider may be bright, eloquent, and obviously talented but that doesn't necessarily mean that his emotional maturity is at that same level. And, I am not implying that he is any less mature emotionally than any of us morons were at his age. For us pit racers, it may be hard to imagine the expectations that go along with...

Makes you wonder if this sport is more dangerous overall than football with its concussions. This pretty much sums up the average dirt bike riders mentality... I hadn't been to a doctor for years so I finally went a couple weeks ago and everything checked out good with the exception of my back. The doctor told me that all the...

I don't buy the expense reason for the sport in decline. You can buy a used 2 stroke for $1500 all day long that is still competitive for most racers. Has anyone noticed the best racers in the country are coming from Minnesota of all places? Interesting factoid about that is that back when these kids grew up there weren't...
The bicycle crowd have developed GPS tracking devices that can be discretely mounted so that thieves are not aware of them. If I remember right, they cost about $200-$300. Maybe someone in the industry can do the same for moto or adapt the bicycle ones to work. They do three things, first you get your bike back, second the thieves...

Not to sound like more chest beating just because Villo won one qualifier but, I am thinking that GP riders are going to have to adapt to American motocross as much as Villo is going to have to adapt to GP motocross. Meaning that their (GP riders) habit of charging for a few laps and settling into a relaxed pace...

Happens to any sport that gets big. It reminds me of what my (female) dental hygienist told me one time that men typically go for the electric toothbrush because they like anything with a motor. After getting over my snit about what a sexist remark that was, I started to envision holding competitions with electric toothbrushes where whoever could brush...

ClassCClairVoyant Added a reply to Props To Reed.

No way is Reed capable of winning a supercross anymore at his age. This just supports my theory that Feld runs supercross like the WWF, controlling who wins and loses. It's a retro race with a bunch of former winners/champions being honored so who better to represent that than Reed who himself will be a member of that club soon...
I watch the GP's most weeks and it seems like a lot of their venues are now fairgrounds tracks. IMO most of them are not worthy of hosting a GP. When Utah came up I figured it would be more of the same. Maybe the riders didn't like it but as a dumb fan I thought it was really good...
Not to hack on Stewart, but watching him he looks like he is going to crash at any given moment. He pushes the front end coming out of a corner, then over-jumps a landing, slides the back end out, then lands with the front low or high etc. I'd give my lame opinion about it but have no clue what...
