I'll vote for a rolling start like F1 after a safety car, ride slow in position and start racing when you get to the finish line/green flag. Full restart is kinda dumb and staggered start looks funky and not very professional...

A full restart that long into a moto doesn’t make any sense.

You don’t? I was taught to always use protection. Goggles are just as important. Always load plenty of tear offs, but I recommend roll offs for anniversaries and special occasions.

Are you new to the sport? Villo was very open about this stuff. Sure he's come to terms with it later on in life. Is he happy where his life is now? I'd imagine it's better than he ever dreamed. But that doesn't negate how irresponsible it was of his parents to put the entire families financial lives on his shoulder while he was a kid. He's publicly discussed this. Again, for every success story like the Lawerences and Villo there are hundreds of families completely torn apart due to this kind of decision. People can do what they want...

It's just not a prime time broadcast sport. As fans we think of it as big and important, because it is to us, but it's a tiny sport, with a tiny following. I went to the MotoGP at Silverstone last weekend, which itself has relatively small following as major broadcast motorsports go, and it is leagues ahead of the motocross and supercross program, both in the US and the GPs. Attendance there was around 50,000 I believe. Compared to the F1 at Silverstone, which is a sell out at 160,000. The Monster Energy arena part at the MotoGP was larger...

ML512 Liked a reply to forum topic Engine Packages?

8/1/2023 12:13pm
Most teams these days just have one engine package. On the 250 side you might see a cam and mapping change between SX and MX season, but the majority of 250 teams have all their guys on the same package. 450s are mostly the same, Lawrence and Sexton are a rare exception to that. Some teams also have a high-altitude package. Which could be a small change such as a lighter flywheel, different mapping, and fuel. Some teams bump their compression at high altitudes with either a different piston or decking their cylinder/head a bit more. What could be different...

At a wild guess I expect ECU mapping and exhaust are gonna be the main ones, then cam profiles and porting and maybe even compression and valve sizing in more extreme cases? I guess using stock engine castings remove any super techy stuff like actual valve angle, though those are probably absolutely dialled from the manufacturer. Though didn't Kawi change their OEM valve angle on the '23 KX 250? Interested to hear about this also, good thread. Is there still a lot of scope for changing gearing internally for preference? I remember a few teams having trick gearsets like Pro...
