Old School Motocross guy. Got interested in the sport around '73-74. Started racing a bit thereafter. Raced on the amateur level for a long time, but hung it up around '91. Have always kept up with the sport since.
Dust Bowl?
Yeah, no. Maybe if those other states stepped up like Utah did, they'd be at another venue. Personally, glad Supercross is back. No complaints!
Give him a break. A Ray's mustache news was good stuff. That's journalism. Got the mustache news on the broadcast but had to come here to find out what happened to Tickle and why he was a DNS.
I was a Regional Manager for Alta for a year in a half. Previously I was at Parts Unlimited as a District Manager for 28 years. I don't regret it at all!!! Loved the bike, the company and the people. Its really, really hard to make money selling just a dirt bike. An electric dirt bike at that, and one made in Silicon Valley, with an all star line up of staff. In fact, I group of engineers left Telsa and joined Alta to develop the battery technology. Harley was not the demise of Alta and did not end up...
I haven't gotten a chance to watch this yet but I have a 2017 Alta Redshift and it is, without a doubt, the funnest bike I've ever owned and the community of owners, over at the Alta Owners Forums are top notch if you run into any technical issues. I'm getting a track built on my property next month that would not be possible without this bike due to close neighbors. I've also gotten to explore a lot of cool places that are all posted up by state game lands without fear of being heard and chased. I wish the...
Wouldn’t matter if they advertised, everybody’s out burning down their cities so that’s dominating people’s tv screens now. Well I guess they coulda put up banners with the rioters
MXA may make mistakes, but you have to admit they have staying power. That they continue printing about a small niche sport like MX since the early 1970's shows long term commitment and love of the sport. Like 'em or not, they deserve respect for their longevity. Besides, back when I was a kid, finding the new MXA at my local drugstore was like Christmas once a month for a moto crazy kid!
Varner was an amazing supporter of mine while growing up and racing. He did pretty much all my race bikes, at least when need he never hesitated. I’m hoping your stuff shows up and it rips and I surely hope Terry is doing ok. Nobody is always perfect.
OMC in Norman, OK is hosting round one of the hot summer nights series. I’m expecting several hundred entires for the SX style heat-main formatted event. Facility owner Rodney Berryhill and GAME company moto coach Gregg Albertson have crowd sourced a 100% plus donation purse now in the couple grand for open pro sport. I’m expecting 15-20 pro riders with names such as Dustin Winter, Chase Marquier, Michael Hicks, Isaiah Clark, Grant Harlan, Chandler Baker, Nick Maret, Preston Taylor, Brayden Brunk, Zack Duran, Caleb Conner, Jeremi Williamson, and a laundry list of regional hitmen looking to cash in on the...
Goddamn fuggin shame, look up the definition of a Legend. No doubt in my mind that an image of Marty Smith pops up at the top of the list. Hang in there family and friends of these two great people. I remember keeping these legends apart at a moto party a few years back.
Man, this just sucks. Marty was just such a cool guy. I did a class with him at Carlsbad, BS’d after class and then went down to San Diego from NorCal ... it must have been 30-40 times ... for private lessons. We hit Palm Ave, some place in Ramona, Perris, Elsinore ... just about everywhere. From the first time I met him, it was like we were buds since were Kids, not lije someone I idolized from a distance. He taught me that no matter how much of a moto god that he was, he was just a normal...
I can only add to the praise that's already been said. He was my American hero. I can fondly say I got to hang with him in 1976 at Rio Bravo. I have no idea why he gave me the time of day but he let me tag along all day/evening on Saturday before the race on Sunday. He was just so cool, confident and in control. I was a stud by proxy as we walked from van to van, room to room...he threw out friendly jabs, "What happened to your face...did ya catch it in a door or get...
I tried to emulate everything Marty did in the magazines when I was a kid. Truly a riders hero and will be missed. RIP Marty and Nancy, my thoughts are with the family.
