Don't know anything specific about Freestone, but Texas tracks/series have been undergoing some upheaval in sanctioning and ownership the past 18 months after being super stable for the last 20 years. Many tracks that were formerly independent have become AMA-sanctioned (I've heard mainly for the insurance). So there's that. And Tony Mosely, a terrific guy that basically ran the Texas Vintage Racing Club (TVRC) series for as long as I can remember, decided to retire from those duties. It’s gotta be the absence of the headset. He really has great things to say and share and speaks much more fluently without the pressure of people being in his ear.
