9/10/2026 11:33am I've dyed a few parts with rit dye, it does work and seems to hold up good, would love to do a full set of plastics one day. The dye did start to fade after a while, but not terrible, but that was probably my piss poor dye job.

As the title states, this is a build for the upcoming Barn Find Open being put on by Red Bull & Carson Brown at Oak Ridge MX in Iowa. I traded a 04 YZ125 for this 1997 XR400 that has a maximum of 15 original hours. Wanting to build somewhat of a 4 stroke nationals inspired build without opening the engine up, and while keeping some of the XR charm as I plan to eventually put a plate on this and use as a dual sport rig around town and on the road as an outside sales rep. I was pretty good thru my early amateur days, but I broke my femur at age 16 at a LL regional which turned into a big complication nearly costing me my leg. Never recovered from that mentally and my racing suffered ever since. One 2-Hour GNCC style moto per class. Replace whoops with log sections and rock gardens, maybe a shark pit. Must keep SX suspension bolted on.
