I just saw this article in my Facebook feed. It's going viral, folks.

I got some bad news for you there aren't 300 classes being run anywhere and back in the late 80s when I went to my first race (125 beginner class) they had over 50 entries in my class alone. They didn't have a girls/womens class so I rode with everyone else. It was a long day and racing till the middle of the afternoon just like today. My biggest take away from this thread is the shocking number of you who don’t understand per capita. I wanted to find all sorts of errors, logical fallacies, and outright falsehoods in the story. Unfortunately the biggest issue that I can find fault with is that some of their terminology or mx-culture ‘slang’ is a little bit off in places. The gist of the story is pretty sobering because it’s pretty accurate. It is also something that causes cognitive dissonance in most of us who enjoy the ‘sport’, whether through participation or spectating/viewing. Including myself.

That, and going to school isn’t an optional, recreational sport. Let’s be honest here: did anyone here seriously think motocross was less dangerous than football, or any other youth sport? I feel like the USA Today story is simply summarizing what most of us have known from the moment we entered the sport.

People cheer for this for the entertainment value. It's sort of like the immigration issue. Obama was the biggest deporter of illegal aliens that we've had, but he wasn't at the podium painting all immigrants from certain countries or whole ethnicities as evil, so it didn't have the entertainment value that some people crave. The appearance of cruelty is of huge entertainment value to many, unfortunately. Rationalizing the killing of these alleged attempted smugglers is just another confirmation of that, really.

if you know its all just a smoke and mirrors and not actually doing anything, could be making it worse cause we are killing potentially innocent people, why do you cheer for it?

Fentanyl has been very commonly used since the early 1960's. Wasn't until it started to get mixed into illegal drugs that it became a problem.

“ But say it saves one extra shipment of fentanyl coming in the country because they know it is an automatic loss of product. That alone saves millions of lives.” There are a total of just under 80K drug overdoses in the country during a year. At that rate it would take over 20 years to reach “millions” level, and that is if every single overdose death were from fentanyl. Fentanyl is a problem, but stretching the truth about it isn’t helpful.

Crazy that MX Sports says they have no influence over the races that are used to qualify for LL…isn’t there basically an arm wrestling competition to hold a qualifier or regional as the promoters know they are a cash cow and can make or break their earnings for the year? Chances are if they are working for the cartel saying no would be far worse for them and there family. We could get rid of the production facilities tomorrow if we actually wanted to do something with tangible benefits.

Unless they plan on paying you 24/7 I wouldn’t let a company control my life off the clock. Just my opinion.

I’m a small business owner. My income is directly affected by my employees showing up and doing their job. That being said. They do not live to work and they do not survive to create income for my business. They work to enjoy their life and it would be unfair of me to ask them to do less of what they enjoy for the sake of my business.

Their thinking could be something along the lines of “Get in an accident racing dirt bikes, we have to have someone do your job while you recover then put you back in the position when you return. Get in an accident on a street bike, we attend your funeral on Thursday and start onboarding your replacement the next Monday…..” Sounds like he’s clarified that they are asking him to not “race”. They’d probably not want him doing any actual road racing, either. Hard choice to make, though, especially if you’ve been involved in a niche industry for a while. Might...
