BBQkidd Added a reply to 1986 MX 250 KTM
11/30/2024 10:51am I believe I may have the kickstart gear you are looking for. I can send you some pictures. Feel free to message me on this site or e-mail me at bbqkidd@yahoo.com and I can send you a couple of photos. Also, you should be able to find the engine rebuild manual on e-bay. I see them there often.

11/26/2024 2:40pm Cool bikes! I have a couple 1981 MX6 250s on the back burner to restore..never raced one. I also have a 1986 CR250 nearly stock, low time. It has the best power delivery of my 80s bikes. The RM250 is not as smooth but with tweaks I've done very equal. Couple years ago I took both bikes to a race,,decided to use the CR for a change, track was tight arena cross style and the CR has disc up front. Class structure that day allowed any 80s bikes. A 26 yr old there selling parts with his dad that day walked...

11/26/2024 2:30pm Sounds like are on the same page motor wise! I've been emailing with Tom Morgan today about porting the cylinder and head. I also have both an 82 and 83 head. I can't imagine that the motor doesn't run better with the 83 head. Think sometimes people mistake hard hit for fast... I'll always take the bike that is easy to ride and goes when I twist the throttle. Tom has a great reputation and the national titles to back it up so interested to see what it runs like once he ports it. Gonna do a 83-85 bottom end...

11/26/2024 2:29pm I got my bike with 82 head and the dg exhaust. The 82 head has a hemi dome,,83 has real wide squish band. The 83 was a detuned dog next to 82s. Swapping the head and advancing timing was trick back in the day and still works. I believe tightening the squishon 83 to .035" and narrowing the width of band will be the hot ticket when I talked to Eric Gorr. The v-force helped the bottom(had boysens before),,,the pwk definately helped the bottom-up. The stock 83 carb is designed with no idle screw...

11/4/2024 3:37pm I've raced my 83 the past 1 1/2 seasons here in fl and love it. I continue to tweak it but currently it has vforce 3 from 87 quad racer, 38 pwk from 01 cr250,dg pipe, 82 head. It has carried me to numerous holeshots and 1sts in 80-85 open class even against trick 490s,465,400s and more. It is top end, but I did notice improvements with the reed cage and carb swap was a real winner. I never even changed a single peice of brass in it. I run 32-1 race gas.Forks have gold valves, ongoing work. Double pull...

11/4/2024 3:33pm Suzuki never had durable gearboxes, likely still don't. If your serious about racing this bike & have the cases split, replace any gear you can get your hands on! Surprisingly a lot of nos gears are still out there! Bad news is each gear will go for 50-100$ each! I was able to find more parts for the 82-83 than my 88. I kept my original airbox, what's better than cleaning a filter? Cleaning 2........... My bike came with a full DC plastics kit, I hate to bitch about DC as there are not a lot of options for these...

11/4/2024 3:31pm Finished my 82 not too long ago, fun bike, no bottom, but when mid range kicks into the top end its great, by today's standards it's nothing to write home about but I bet back in 82 it was like" holy shit". I also have, An 84 & raced an 84 for a year back in 86. . Gore likely trying to give it some bottom end which the 83-84 had, but those bikes lost the top end hook. The 83-84 was easier to ride, but went flat on top. With a non power valve motor your going to have...

1/11/2024 6:15pm Some fast boys around the Texas area vintage races. Trampas Parker HAULS the mail....he's not a 2x World Champ for no reason :-) He put on a AHRMA vintage fest couple weeks back in OK....trials, cross country, vintage and post vintage mx. Even did a vintage dirt track on a baseball field Saturday Night under the lights...the Bultaco Astros were owning that sucker. Races were held in city park, had a blast

1/8/2024 12:43pm Very nice bike! There is a guy on the Facebook groups that does reproduction tank badges. He can do them in most any color you might want and can also match the original very closely. His name is Ken Anderson. You can look him up on the KTM oldie groups there..

12/2/2023 10:09am If you improve steering precision, that can help with speed and/or make you safer for a given level of speed. I believe this would help any level of rider to some extent. I definitely noticed an improvement in steering precision with the standard offset on my 150 and 300 that I installed the Luxon clamps on. The additional comfort was...

11/25/2023 1:52pm This unit is based on a more advanced version of the STIC metering insert block. This design has more tune-ability and brings a more significant power level to the lower thru extended top range. The bore is 40mm/38. The body casting quality is at a high standard and design is based on the PWK AS series. Short Body and Screw Top versions are available. No bulky and heavy billet with potential leakage. Out of the gate, the functionality was to the Keihin standard and with a very low steady idle. Good to see it is priced well against other brands...

Rickyisms Liked a reply to forum topic FCP Engine Mount Kits to Improve Handling --- Do They Work?
10/16/2023 9:04pm Not FCP stuff, but I did test the OE stock steel engine hangers that came on my bike (16 125SX) vs the aluminum ones they used in the later years. The steel ones absorbed chop much better at the end of the day. The aluminum ones were “firmer” and weren’t bad in the beginning of the day when the track was nice, though when the track got rough I felt a much stiffer feeling through the seat, pegs, and frame when landing jumps.

10/16/2023 7:57pm There is a twisted d video somewhere where he shows its key for setup. Hold down stop button then crack start button. Then open throttle wide open, hold down stop and press start. Calibrates tps. Ps, your sx didn't have tps, but it is a lot faster now I've chucked the lectron 😉 Luv ya bud!

10/16/2023 7:48pm The Vortex uses the Oem map switch on the ktm There are 10 maps settings available on the vortex , but in reality you will only use two or three at the most. Most tuners sell different maps for different conditions- altitude, deep sand, less engine braking, special fuel, etc. I use the Vortex from XPR racing in murrieta .

10/16/2023 7:22pm I have one on my 18.5 450 FE which is a 19. Love it over stock. Its not like huge or massive gains or anything but its cleaner, broader and more responsive. Where the Vortex shines is when you start changing cams, throttle bodies, race fuel and HC pistons. You can tune it to your engine mods, fuel you run or both. I'm also running a pipe, airbox cover vented, and cageless filter. Like Brent said lower your gearing to a 51 rear. I can even start in 3rd with this and never shift to the first corner unless its...

10/4/2023 9:36pm I was originally hesitant to invest in aftermarket triple clamps but after putting Luxon Gen2 clamps on my 150, I added them to my 300 also. I definitely think the quality is excellent and I can feel better steering precision and an improvement in the ride of the front end. Luxon makes a great triple clamps and I applaud them...

1999 KTM SX 380, converted to a 2006 with the new subframe and bodywork.
Complete SXS suspension
FMF Gnarly/Powercore2 exhaust
2009 SXF triple clamps
Engine and frame had about 20h on them from new, then it was completely rebuilt. It's basically a new bike.
That thing is scary, but so much fun!
