The main reason to have a factory race team is to sell bikes and create a positive image around the brand.
Haiden Deagan’s personality seems to be polarising, half his fans, particularly the GenZ youngsters love his outgoing aura and social media presence whilst the other 50% hate his brashness, dirty riding and particularly his reluctance to step forward and race for Team USA at the MxoN.
Does Deagan create a positive image for Yamaha and actually sell bikes?. Has anyone here on Vital actually bought a bike because of his results?

Herlings (maybe best rider on earth) is a fan. Also goes on about how he is the most popular rider with the most fans. Figure maybe you’d listen to him over someone on vital.
Thats a cool interview, wouldnt of guessed Herlings is a Deegan superfan.
Anecdotally, the wheelie boys seem to prefer Yamahas.
No, Yamaha sells Yamahas.

Yamaha’s what? Did Deegan sell their old headquarters in Cypress?
I own a yz 125 and i bought it because i love the bike i don t care about Deegs.
My teenager son loves to ride the yz with a # 3 not a 38.
My guess is that Deegs sells ttrs not yzfs
I thought we'd have a nice little break from Deegan but for some reason those that despise him just can't help talking about him.
vital deegan haters: “no he doesn’t because I didn’t buy mine because of him.”
lol dude you guys are unreal. Yes man, the answer is yes. Deegan 100% helps Yamaha sell Yamahas. He’s the most popular rider with the biggest fan base. That’s a fact not an opinion. You don’t have to be a fan of him, but that’s just facts dude
Maybe not deegs, but i think star has had an effect on people buying yamahas, lots of yz250f's around.
I doubt many (if any) adults would buy one because of Deegan but when I first got started I went with Kawi because RV2 was my favorite rider. I would have to imagine it ends up being a very small percentage of sales though.
I’m assuming he has a large role in it. I think Tomac helped out just as much, he started winning right away on the Yamaha when many were questioning his move, myself included. Star racing 250 program has certainly helped with 250f sales over the years.
idk man, we're the type of consumers that buy sitckers and clothing to advertise for companies who don't even know we exist.
I just don't see it.... sure, I see cringe lord t shirts at the races, about the same amount as the Lawrences tbh.... but men don't wear another man's name on them... so that's a bunch of pimpled up teens with no sense to them...
I don't see because look at attendance rd2 of stupidcross... empty afff, the week after a cringe lord win, at a track in cali....
I don't see it on the media's socials either... a cringe lord post barely gets more engagement than one about webb or hunter...
Then theres... cringe lords social stats are big for a moto rider... but miles away from being actually mainstream... I can literally name a thousand names with larger yt/insta/x followers that you've never heard of before...
Most hated yes by a wide margin... most popular oh hell naw...
i think the 250 yamahas sell themselves with how much of a hp advantage they make over the other brands. Deegs is selling everything assosiated with him... I was coaching my kids pewee hockey team the other day and a little boy put his jersey on, he got number 38 randomly and he said " thats Deegans #" he was ecstatic lol. A couple other kids were jealous and crying to their moms that they wanted deegans number.. hate it or love it, facts... hes got the hearts of little kids with undeveloped brains
“I just don’t see it.” -vital deegan hater
Might not be a fair comparison because there are 3 Lawrences vs 1 Deegs

I'd say Deegan probably sells a lot of bikes for Yamaha. When I was a little kid, I got a Z50 because I thought David Bailey was awesome! Do grown men actually buy bikes because of a rider?
He just dipped out on us again at the MXdN. He deserves to get cooked for a little while.
The bean counters at Suzuki should be able to answer this question.
Who? How many followers do they have?
I don't like Deegan the personality.
I admire Deegan the rider.
He doesn't sell that many YZ450s.
He sells a boat load of PW50s, YZ65s, and YZ85s, which down the road will morph into 125/250/450 sales as those kids will get hooked onto the same brand loyalty many of us have as adults.
You're not cooking him you're keeping his name at the top of the forum. Ignoring him and talking about Webb, Kitchen and Beaumer would hurt him worse but that doesn't seem possible with some.
So, if DT dipped out on the Vietnam draft and somebody on this forum points out his cowardice, that's good for DT because we're talking about him? This kid harms his own reputation every time he ducks this race.
Hi Rob!

Perhaps you could paint this? I certainly wouldn't put it with my David Bailey painting, but I think it would sell:
I buy Yamahas because I love the bikes and like the brand. Deegan is a tool, but that doesn't change my perception of the brand.
Yamaha sold Yamaha's before dangerboy and they will sell them after dangerboy.....they are the best selling motocrossers of all-time. who needs a dangerboy?
The only one that comes to mind was when he was still an amateur. For some unknown reason , that sale did not go through 🤷♂️
To be honest, Tomac sold me on Yamahas lol. But since the new gen yz450 came out in 2023 and I bought my 2024 I’ve been sold on the reliability, ease of maintenance (air filter in the gas tank position is great for changing filters quickly and not getting wet when pressure washing), and the great suspension right out of the box. I’ll be on Yamahas for a while now after being on red and green my whole life.
