If Webb were to quit Star tomorrow, ride the Husky Saturday, AND somehow take out Deegan, Star would have very little difficulty winning a suit against him after he announced his plans last weekend.

...from a legal standpoint, YMUS and Star would be exposing themselves to liability by denying a contracted team rider the equipment to fulfill his contract, as Webb stands to lose a significant amount of purse money if they don't provide a motorcycle and support at the final round.
I believe that team conduct in the pits is governed by AMA pro racing, and so far not a word from them as of today (Monday).
IMO Mr. Regan is a veteran businessman - he and Yamaha would not do something that foolish...

Or, and hear me out here, would they have MORE legal exposure if they decided to allow him to race and he followed through in his inference (to put it charitably) and took out Deegan, perhaps costing Deegan up to 7 figures? If that were to happen, it would be pretty difficult to argue that they had no idea what Webb's intentions were, no?
Lets say Webb takes out Deegan and in the process someone else gets hurt?

A civil suit can be brought for sure, and who knows how the ruling(s) would go. Either way, Webb stating his intentions doesn't help if he were to be a defendant after physical contact, etc. Unfortunately, he was obviously caught up in the heat of the moment Saturday night but he said what he said. Hopefully he just races his heart out and finishes as close to the front as he can without any incidents causing anyone to fall, but the drama is definitely there until after the event is over. Even if he were to come out now and say "water under the bridge", who is going to believe him?

No...racers can't sue for damages like what is being said. Too hard to prove. It's like in most contracts to race..."to the best of your ability every race". This has not always been done for various reasons by racers. Riders suing for incidental things like them being invovled or being damaged due to whatever reason would be 99.99999% impossible.
Unless he shows up on a privately owned Yamaha like Rick Johnson, I think it was, did one time. It would be epic!

All for it on the track (rink, court, field, etc.) same as I replied to someone else earlier. When you participate in a sport you consent to physical contact while competing that may even go beyond the normally accepted amount, and as you mentioned, extra physical contact can be expected to enforce etiquette or unwritten rules of the sport as it’s used to deter purposely seriously injuring others competitors.

It sucks, Cooper ran a clean race, had good speed and the mistakes by everybody else could have got him another podium. What Deegan did after falling was a dick move but, Webb really should have kept his intentions quiet because we all knew what was coming.

If Webb were to try and quit he would be in breach of his contract and Yam could easily get an injunction to keep him out of the race on a Hus. If Star sits him for disciplinary reasons (which are spelled out in every contract) there is nothing he could do and he would sit out…they would not be denying a contracted team rider to fulfill his contract they would be disciplining a rider that was being detrimental to the team….where you people come up with this shit is nuts…

Only the parties involved and their agents know if there is language in their contract that provides a remedy for verbal threats.
I’ll say it again- the AMA has not yet released any sanction or fine for anyone involved as of Monday.
if Webb followed through and made a purposeful, pre meditated move on another rider in next weeks race, then it’s the AMA that would take action.
If Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha has not terminated Webb by now for cause or for his conduct it could come back to bite them down the road, just sayin….
Remember also that Webb is moving to another Monster sponsored team in 6 Days. Lots of moving parts here…
Your right there isn’t a clause in his contract about verbal threats but there is for actions that are detrimental to the team….l can guarantee you that language is in there and they would not be afraid to use it just as Honda has in the past with both JMB and Pichon and how Kawasaki sat Prado last year during SMX….
