Bench Racing | Columbus SMX Qualifying

Are they gonna cancel like last year

They need to have extra pre-taped features that they can show in situations like this when qualifying gets canceled.  Not replays of old races, or bringing JS & RC to the booth to BS.  How about a Monster Energy Girl wet tee shirt contest?

My guess is lightning should be out the area in the next 30 min. So then a 30 min wait time. Bikes on track at 12:00 local time. They run Wildcard/LCQs and then we get a mudder. Hopefully they don’t cut times or motos. If they cut anything, cut the SMX Next races and any extra stuff they had planned. Sucks for them but they aren’t the main attraction and should not be treated as if they are.

Edit: They are filling the seeded riders based on points. Wildcard racers will go at 1:30 ET.

No qualifying, so the LCQ guys are just screwed and came for nothing?

Looks like my guess was wrong. JB said they’re just going off of points to fill the gate. If I interpreted that correctly they aren’t even running Wildcard/LCQs. If that is how they handle it, a lot of guys will be really upset.

JB just clarified. Wildcard race is at 1:30 local time. So only the seeded guys will go off of points. That makes much more sense. 

Deegs was throwing laps in the rain at Buds Creek while everyone else sat under their tents.

It’s not hard to adjust a few elevations to allow drainage in case of rain. Building the start straight in the middle, as the lowest section with no drainage, is just dumb. They built a pool. They need to use the low sections between double/triple jumps as drainage channels, to give the water an easy way out. 

With “decades of experience”, the track designers know the predictable disasters and should build all the open stadium tracks to avoid them.  It’s not like we’ve never seen water falling from the sky before..

There were people standing in and around the track when I asked the question. You can stand but you can’t work. I am not talking with dozers and skids mixing it up making slop. I’m talking shovels and trenches and pumps. It’s a lot of work but doable. 

HD was flying in the mud, that was a great show!

Having a blast standing outside in the rain because they won't let anyone in to fanfest.

I hope we are going to see the LCQs on RDL…

Still over an hour away from LCQs. Maybe they will come back on for those? 🤷🏻‍♂️ 

If SMX is the playoffs or the premier attempt at racing for this series why fuck around with the inaccuracies of weather? Who makes these decisions? If this truly is supposed to be a combination of SX and MX have it at an outdoor track that can handle a rain storm and add whoops or a "stadium section", have it in an enclosed stadium with an "outdoor section", have it some place that is NOT rainy in the fall, put it in Daytona without whoops and lengthen it, anything else. It seems the decisions maker's hubris is almost tempting fate or trying to make things go wrong.

Much better than I expected! Venues without actual seats and just a number on a bench is a little irritating though. 

It’s pretty crazy and doesn’t make sense. I agree with you. Shoot most the big name mx facilities have a supercross track on site, just connect them for a killer track. Redbud has both and so does Pala for example. 

Have to love the positivity of the RDL crew... 

Weird today is supposed to be the series we have all been waiting for and I just don’t give a fuck. Shit stadium shit track shit city. 

On Peacock, RDL is just showing the replay from this morning and race coverage doesn't start for an hour. 

How do we watch the LCQs? What am I missing here?
