New meaning to "off the pace"

Full support, mechanics, trainers, facilities, ass wipers etc: finishing 1-2 mins back lmao.

How is it not  embarrassing but seemingly accepted?

Many 250 and 450 guys mailing it in week after week.

Factory guys finishing so far off the pace, they  should be giving  money back to the teams!

Slim pickins for teams these days!

Many of these guys are burnt out big time.. others are nursing injuries and just trying to finish the season out.. either way, not much pay difference between 4th and 24th.... but it takes a huge difference in physical/mental output between the two...

Most of these guys are doing the Outdoors the Marshawn Lynch way.  "I'm only here so I don't get fined!"🙄

That being said, they're still going fast...but those two Alien brothers up front are Lizard people.

They're probably setting into the pace of the guys their racing minus a select few who can make a charge to the front even with a bad start. But for guys who get a bad start, they're stuck battling through guys in every turn, never getting to establish a clean lap where they're able to take the preferred lines throughout the track. This will inevitably waste more energy and by the time they've moved up the gaps are so distant that it's not worth the extra effort maybe?

And I think riders get it in their mind that they are an x place rider so you don't usually see them push much harder than that.

But look at harrup up front most of the moto today. Good start, didn't have to deal with the BS and could ride his own race.

And not to mention, if a race is 15 laps and your 1 second slower per lap, that's 15 seconds right there.

I think Barcia, Hampshire, and Marchbanks are trying hard, Tomac is still recovering. Malcolm looked out of shape, Plessinger probably needs seat time. Webb is just trying to do a farewell tour without getting injured before WSX. No idea what's up with Ferrandis. Nichols seems like a great guy but he's slipping away to obscurity.

I agree with the overall premise in the 250 class the most. A few cases in the 450 and some just needing more time.

astute observations there shallow Hal. Ducati is a brand-new team- you expect those bikes to be out front week after week? Beta is still a young team and not hiring top tier riders as the team finds it's way. Triumph also relatively new also with growing pains. They will typically be running in the back 1/2 of the pack. Guys like Osborn coming back after a long time away need seat time to get back up to race speed. You ever race moto yourself? Then you would know the start is everything and the handful of guys getting the best starts usually form a mini pack and run away from the rest of the group. There's exceptions like Tomac who can charge through the pack but most guys can't pick off enough guys to make a run at the front.

Add in other factors mentioned above like recovering from injuries, getting seat time in for whatever reason, saving themselves for near future series instead of risking getting hurt when it's clear they have no numerical possibility of challenging for series points lead, etc. Even teams trying new suspension, tunings, etc. get their best real-world data from real racing over practice sessions.

I don’t know there super fast now. A 250 riders top 25 hv been in the top 5-8.  Tv doesn’t film it correctly or very close& 4-st don’t look super hyper like 125 racing.  If you want to see high intensity racing , check this out.  95 is Donny,  15 Everts already super smooth, 3 Healy c him at 6.13 , hear him at 6.16 .  Killer high rom sound. In 90 they raced hard to score points back to 15th.Another race Everts stuffed Booby to win. Bob said that’s nothing I would’ve done the same thing to him. For where we r at in the season & points. That would a 300 pager on here now. IMG 5959 1.png?VersionId=kx5xelFGDz0Czj6LN8r8W4l8glFJ Much better filming back then & behind the scenes in weird tents.

It’s because you got damn near 30 year-olds still trying to finally get a regional 250 SX championship. If they don’t wanna move up, the old guys aren’t going to move out.

The GP’s got it right to make the 450 class the premier class by kicking the old guys out of the small bike class.

About Malcolm being "out of shape". Before the 2nd moto I think it was, there was a shot of the riders at the line getting ready and they showed a side shot of Malcolm and he had a gut that would make Haystacks Calhoun envious. Not trying to put him down here, I know he's been out with injuries and it just is what it is.

What’s the threat? Who do they get replaced with? Not like 250 guys are moving up quick and taking rides.

KTM should be reviewing Pradas contract on Monday. He was rolling around in 2nd most of moto2, then whipped it up 4secs a lap when Jett finally caught him.

This is something I find quite interesting, some of the guys look like elite athletes, look at guys like Kenny or Jett, then you have people like coop, who if you just look at his appearance, you don’t go “oh yeah that guy is an athlete”

Using Webb as an example, his fitness level is insane, more than 99% of humans.. but the appearance doesn’t always tell the story.

Malc has always been a bigger dude, even since he was a kid

Genetics, Look at how big James look and how James gained weight when he stopped racing.

Mookie got the genetics against him but I don’t get it how he could grow so much in such a short time when he knew that he would be going back to racing soon.

But on the other hand he probably needs to be on a super strict diet to stay in shape for Aldons program so he probably treated himself with some good food during the time off.

The AMA Nationals have turned into the US World Championship. With out Jett and Hunter things would be very different, Prado would be doing great, Deegan would be winning and a hero for beating Prado, etc.  Now that's its a World Championship some of the US boys are not quite on pace. Plus the Lawrence brothers are simply on another level to anyone, but I sure like watching them.

National chamionship* You don’t see any other country in the world calling their national championship a world championship just because of the amount of foreigners racing it.

Saw that belly too.

Aldon has to be doing flips coming up with an effective diet and workout routine. Road bike 40 miles per day should help a little

This goes both ways for sure.   I have bodybuilder friends who look fantastic,  but wouldn't last 10 min doing any sort of real cardio. Then some mma guys who look very average but have gas tanks for days and days.

There's only like 15-20? riders that you could say have "full support, facilities, trainers, ass wipers"

Which ones are under performing?

Yeah but why arnt they?

I feel there is something wrong with the whole 450/250 thing.

450's literally about 4 guys can win, the top 10 is always the top 10 and the next 20 are irrelevant and might as well be witches hats on the track.

Deegan, Marchbanks and RJ have come in and had zero difficulties adapting and are beating the old dudes who have been around forever.

Seeing how well those 3 have gone I have no doubt Davies, Hammaker, Shimoda, Kitchen would all do fine and probably be top 10.

The 450 class should be all the best guys and the 250's should feed into it. Right now I think half the best guys are spread throughout both classes.

It hasn't been a feeder class since they removed 125's.
US amateur system underprepares these kids and feeds them false confidence with lap times and clean sweeping a couple of amateur races each year sets them up for a steep learning curve. Than they get riddled with injuries and chase a regional supercross title each year trying to return the favour for the support and money these factory teams are throwing at these kids.

Yeah i agree.

I think its a bit shit how its ran. Ive watched MotoGP my whole life and the best riders in the world race in the top class. There is a few exceptions here and there but 98% of the time you know your watching all the best dudes compete against each other every weekend.

We watched Shimoda hop on a 450 for the first time in his life and whoop half the world at Motocross of Nations. He should be racing 450 now, just like all the other 250 dudes i mentioned. He'd definitely be top 10.

We currently have all these old dudes on factory bikes who ride around collecting a pay check and finishing top 10, at no stage are they even in the same postcode as the top 4.

Not for 1 second am I saying those guys arnt fast or they shouldn't be there, but probably the top six 250 guys should also be there and would probably be beating those 450 guys.

Sometimes i think the 250 class is more stacked with talent than the 450's which shouldn't be the case.

Once you get past the top 10 in 450 the talent falls off a cliff and the guys are just making up numbers.

I cant think of another motorsport like it.

Again I want to reiterate that everyone there is still fast as fuck and would whoop my ass my probably over a minute per lap. And Supercross is a bit of a different situation where the older dudes are much more relevant.
