Cane across this on reddit. Everything he said is true and the pic just shows it in full effect. Why is it so hard for us to just get full screen moto here?

”Feld/Peacock need to call up MXGP production team and go to school. This is how about 95% of the race is over there for TV coverage.. no battle boxes of pointless shit, no border background making your 65 in TV only 45 in, and only ONE announcer talking about ONLY the racing. I don't care if Joe schmo stubbed his toe on Tuesday I want to know how far off the pace somebody is dammit!”

Why did they use such a large header onscreen when they cut away for an NBC commercial?  It took away  1/3 of the top of the screen. No reason for it to be so large.

Agreed. Just watched the 2nd moto of MX2, great race!.  Hard to believe that Coenen got smoked like that after seeing what he did here at Southwick. Those guys are legit as it gets, good stuff.

ps. And yeah, Malin does an exceptional job calling the races, never a boring moment with that guy...

Not wrong here on the assessment. NBC is using broadcasting ideas from the last century. MXGP has always had a better show. I do however, like Race Day Live. That is worth watching.

The Ama broadcast layout is ridiculous with so much wasted space. The whole aspect ratio thing that "wait a minute" Weege ranted about is b/s.

MXGP-TV builds their product for the existing fans and then market that to everyone.

Feld and MX sports are told what to do by NBC Peacock. I don’t believe it’s Bondo’s or anyone else’s decision besides NBC Peacock to do battle box or other trendy things.

You can fault Luongo’s for a lot of things, but one thing they appear to do right is take ownership of their product.

But why do they stream it in SD? It's so blurry you can hardly read the numbers on the bikes. Like their cameras are straight out of 1995 or something.

Agreed. Watched a race last year, it was some dude and JT covering the race and they just talked.  It was better than our SX and MX coverage. (And no "points as they run" 2.5 minutes into the moto.)

I have full HD. If you watch it to close after live event ended, it was previous 480p, 720 and then a bit later 1080p option being made available.

On PC you can choose resolution, force it. Also noticed Airplay handles resolution selection better than Chromecast

Subtle things like how they do the dual screen with no wasted screen, and the timing overlay being transparent with no extra bullshit makes the screen much better. The commentary goes without saying is immeasurably better.

The entire production is orders of magnitude better.

Yep! RDL is where the little side stories, talking bobble heads and blah blah blah content should be, leave the live motos for RACING AND RACE COMMENTATING.

I get  downvoted every time I post that the AMA commentary is like a podcast that gets annoyingly interrupted by the racing every now and then…

Ive intro’d new people to the sport snd they very often dont understand what is happened, lose interest and thats that. The commentary sole job is to make the racing more engaging, more exciting and bring clarity to whats happening. If the broadcast team is barely interested in the racing why would a new fan be interested…

It’s seriously horrid.

and seriously stop hypothesizing a racers thought process during the race — simple fix, make a list of topics during the race and cover them post race. Or in a podcast or in the weege show but not mid moto.

I concede that production-wise, the Nationals have room for improvement.
In terms of the broadcast team....I don't know....I personally don't care for Malin or LL.
James "nonetheless" Stewart is good but my favorite team was Weege & GL with Georgia Lindsey trackside.

It’s obviously a sponsorship thing, they’re no doubt getting paid to show these type of useless stats.

Besides just calling the race and having no pre planned narrative, the best thing Malin does, is keep an eye on the timing and call for the cameras to change if needed. Why they can’t seem to do that in AMA is beyond me.

Sexton in the booth yesterday was good, but Malin in full flow on his own in the second MX2 race was awesome.

I guess those of us watching overseas, through the SMX package dont have to put up with all the advert stuff, in race, which makes it way better.

Keeping the broadcast simple is what works, trying to cram 'feel good' features into live action sucks.

And in MXGP race 2 yesterday , they replayed the race one highlights with the live stuff in a small box, you could tell Malin was pissed by the tone of his voice.

Another is the Thor Battlebox. They're blatantly sacrificing broadcast quality for ad/sponsor revenue. Its very much an American thing

The worst part is ours used to look like that. Why are all of the positions beyond 10th permanently darkened? If used to be the top 10 would stay up and the next 10 would rotate, which it still does, but the second 10 are dark so u can barely see who it is. Why did it change and wtf is that?

They do need to just concede Race Day Live to the core fans who, although they're a minority, they're the loudest minority. Let that be where all the "in the weeds" coverage exists.

As far as the booth goes, we have enough analysis during the week, and post race. We don't need Weigandt in the booth trying to set/start the narrative on everything and turn it into a podcast.

You are assuming everyone is watching from their 300 Mbps like here in the Metropolitan areas of America. The Global median is 40 Mbps. Europe may not have the data infrastructure to push HD without it lagging and being an inferior product. I am not saying they have, I don't know. I just know that the US is ahead in bandwidth compared to the rest of the world.

They are selling to the lowest common denominator.

This may be accurate or not. https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/internet-speeds-by-c…

I also like how Malin doesn't feel the need to talk the entire time. He takes pauses occasionally where just the bikes & crowd can be heard for a few seconds, and then he seamlessly picks the commentary back up when it makes sense to do so.

In my experience of comparing internet speeds in California and Europe, Europe is usually better, but that's just my experience.

I live in a pretty rural area of the UK and get 1000mbps.

After watching and listening to the broadcast of the last Pro Motocross race, I only have this to say: What a shitty show!
Shitty broadcast!
Weege and Stewart should just comment on what they are seeing just like Paul Malin does! No one wants to hear the side stories or make up situations during the race that don't exist just to try to create hype!

One thing that pisses me off is that live timing doesn't sync with video. In freaking 2026. If you wanna look up some laptimes you spoil the race for yourself because the live timing is like 40 sec ahead
