Have thirty 1-minute motos. Alessi can be the oldest national champion.

Two 20-minute motos? Then don't call it motocross, because it isn't anymore. Fuck RC, I cannot think of a past champion of any sport I have been a fan of who has fallen from my graces more precipitously than that sycophantic little prick, perhaps OJ - but it's close. There is always MXGP to watch and American MX can become the WNBA to MXGP's NBA. What a shame, Jeff Ward, Tony D, Weinert, Desoto, Blackwell and the like have to be pissed.

Shortening the motos is the worst idea I’ve heard in a sport that thrives on bad ideas.

Instead:

Start races from dirt, no travel restriction gizmos on suspension (start devices), no entry fees for anyone who’s earned national championship points, let the riders sell shirts-hats-jackets at the races, consistently punish riders for cutting the course, drop the 250SX class regional BS, have a race or two at Glen Helen every year, make the travel schedule somehow not cross the country repeatedly, use electronic “flagger” devices for blind sections of the tracks..

And get some public speaking training for anyone likely to be handed a microphone.

I would like to hear what the racers have to say about a shorter race time. What about the sponsors? Will they like less tv time. The teams and mechanics, I would guess will be onboard with it.

MX Sports has, unfortunately, sold their soul long ago. 'Racers best friend' has certainly not been carried on. That feels terrible to say. It's a shame what's been happening.

I'm not bashing. I'm expressing sadness.

They already did, many years ago.  Ask the Pros about 45 minute + 2 laps in the '70's and '80's.

I think it’s tough getting viewers to watch a 5 hour program every single Saturday.  They must see trends in viewership outside of a certain window...

I love the sport, watch every race, and after the first couple rounds don’t have time to watch the entire day every Saturday.  A 2-3 hour program I could fit easily

then don't spend 5 hours watching every Saturday! This is being driven by profits for networks and streamers selling advertising, and of course promoters like Feld. Anybody that thinks motos are too long these days would have been written off as whiny pussies who should find another sport back in the 70's.

People are so mad about my extremely neutral response where I said I still watch most of them hahaha

Also I think what you just said proves the programs point

“Then don’t watch” clearly people are following your very useful input and not watching…guess what that does? Lol

As others have said; but, I don’t think we’ve actually nailed the metrics:

There’s *2.5 hours of racing on the day. If that’s a problem? Cut it back for the broadcast (delayed, obviously) while you leave the current programming for those of us that like to ALL the racing.

2.5 hours = the 250/450 motos

MXSports is the promoter for AMA Outdoors, not Feld.

I agree with this.  It would be cool to have the option.

no argument there. Multiple series = multiple promotors. I singled out Feld as the most blatant profit-making offenders by stretching out the program all day and into the night.

Feels like a trial balloon being floated by RC as directed by his handlers at NBC, or possibly even starting the messaging for a decision that has been made.

Hey RC, the idea sucks. That’s my opinion of ‘your’ idea. Let’s not change the sport to fit a TV window. Endurance and toughness in the summer sun is part of the allure of motocross. We have SX and the SX finals which are made for TV.  Look for ways to edit the coverage.
For RV, do you actually believe this is a good idea?

Edit: Imagine the SMX riders trying to race against MXGP guys after a couple seasons of short motos? It’s already tough with the relatively short MX season. MXDN would be a mess.

Shortening a 4 hour program to a 3 hour 20 minute program doesn't solve anything.

Statistics can show when the exciting stuff happens, but only using data from one season to change the sport is just ignorant. Can we get data from 10 or 20 years? And if those last 10-minute lead changes are outliers, are they all epic? Paging SMXMuse @JoeyNovice

Unfortunately I don't have the lap by lap position data for any years prior to 2025. It's relatively new that they offer that data on the smx site. Only way to do it would probably pour through the lap chart pdfs. Sounds like an offseason project for me

I hope that first 250 moto alone showed why shortening motos would be asinine.

After watching 250 Moto 1 @ Millville…

We’re gonna have to start revoking man cards for all this sissyfied “shorter motos” crap.

I’m jus’ sayin’…

I hope they look in the mirror Monday morning and think about taking talking points from Feld/NBC executives. What a horrible take

Two motos in a row showing exactly why shortening the races is a terrible idea. Eat a dick NBC, this is great to watch.

oh the horror! people might actually get off the couch and maybe go do something else they enjoy and not have to sit there bombarded with advertising and BS filler for over half the show they paid too much for already. I prefer living a full life vs. paying to be taken advantage of watching every showing of a sport that isn't my whole life. You can never have enough time or $ in this life, and you can always make more $ but you can't make more time.

Dumbass idea. RV and RC have sold their souls to NBC. The so-called problem with MX is that it's on during the day in the summer. People have a life so they watch the replay anyway. Shortening motos isn't gonna change this.

There's been a bit of cost cutting at NBC Sports...
