Let’s rewind to moto 2 at High Point.
Lap 15 was his fastest. He was in third. He got to 1.5 - 2 seconds behind Jett? Jett responded and ran his fastest lap on 16. Hunter was gone in 1st place.
If Deegan got the holeshot and ran his lap 15 pace for the entire moto, he might’ve won. But to do that without blowing up and also knowing Jett and Hunter are lurking from behind would be extremely difficult. Possible? Sure. Likely? No.
I can't be the only one who scrolls these online gathering places and thinks "im glad these people don't really show up at the races, and God bless whatever prevents them from doing do."
He ain't beating Jett...
So you’re saying it’s possible for him to win if he runs his fastest lap pace for 17 laps in a row, but his fastest lap was still nearly 0.5s slower than Hunter?

I definitely agree he is improving, but I don’t believe he is at a level to win without a lot of assistance yet. He was pushing as hard as possible at Thunder Valley to keep up and kept making huge mistakes and crashed, and to keep up he had to cut the track over and over.
I say pending a mechanical or a crash he will continue to get 3rd behind the Lawrence’s and he will get 4th during the races Coenen shows up to drop him like a bad habit the same way. If Herlings were to show up, how cool that would be, he would get 5th then.
Yes, I’m saying it’s possible.
Moto 2 average lap times:
96 2:07.071
18 2:07.326
38 2:07.259
38’s fastest lap was 2:05.569.
2:05.569 < 2:07.071.
I said if 38 ran his lap 15 pace for the entire moto, I said he might’ve won. The math and statistics above would seem to validate my hypothesis, agree? Or do you see it differently?
Yeah I get the maths. I'm laughing at the hypothesis that anyone can run their maximum pace for 17 laps, and if you apply that to Deegan you have to apply it to the other riders.
Honest question because I don't know- is Deegan working with a riding coach of any sort? Other than Brian or a physical trainer?
Hasn't led a lap
Washougal has already been mentioned and it's actually the worst track statistically for both Lawrences while it's the best for Deegan. Only place where I see him getting a moto win and I also said so before the season. Though currently the only way I see him winning there is with the Hunter brothers both having a mid pack start (the chances of that are slim I guess). Who knows though, in his rookie season Deegan looked like a completely different rider on that track but last year I'm pretty sure Shimoda just blew by him in the 2nd moto while also getting the overall win.
It's funny some people went from "He's going undefeated" to "He's going to win at least one moto".
To me the data doesn’t support it because that is saying Deegan’s absolute fastest pace beats the Lawrence brothers at I guess an unknown percentage of fastest pace because they never had to go there.
It would not surprise me if Deegan doesn't win even a single moto this year.
Two things are true...
His rookie 450 season is going incredible so far.
He is still not backing up his claims lol.
"RIP Jett" did not age well.
The most confusing thing to me still is why Deegan said: "Jett can't use the ankle as an excuse anymore", an excuse for what exactly, for beating him? 😂
I agree of this. I was scratching my head wondering if Jett was getting 10th place and blaming his ankle.
Jett has never brought up his ankle but actually down plays it when asked by the media.
Who said Deegan would go undefeated? I have yet to see where anyone said that.
They say you gotta be in it to win it and he's right there. I'm no particular fan of the little peckerwood but he's definitely a badass on the bike...you could argue that but you'd be wrong.
Pit Row
He can win a moto anytime he lines up. The Lawrences are simply amazing motocross racers but they aren't magic wizards, they can and have been beat, and deegan has the speed to do it.
That's why the Rookie undefeated season is so impressive, it's racing and shit happens, and that feat will likely not be repeated for a while if ever.
Agree.
He has the skill and physical endurance. Definitely has no fear and great race craft.
No Im not a worshiper and have actually rooted for guys to beat him but there comes a point where you have to appreciate everything while he is on the track.
He'll be first American. Holy 1970s, we're back to that.
I think you're correct.
Time to send your 14 year old over to Europe and run the EX125 class.
What makes things more interesting, all these small countries producing world talent, have a lot less mx riders per capita than the USA.
Sort of like many sports.
He's still 20+ seconds back every moto. He's going to need both the Lawrence's and Jorge to fuck up in the same moto in order to win one.
But when it eventually happens, he'll stick his tongue out like an idiot and proclaim he's the new king after one moto.
Then his mom and dad will log on to YouTube and check the account balance on their kid that they've been monetizing since birth.
😂you might be right on this.
Brian was never going to be much in the 250 class and had that rogue attitude. Lucky to have Pastrana become the good versus metals bad persona in the freestyle market.
Thing about Danger, is he never had to go the route of stirring the pot.
Look at how people atw excited to see people progressing by just running in their own lane.
Oh well.
Let's not forget that he only got docked 6 positions for doing this at least 12 times. Cheaters gonna cheat. Deegan's have done this shit going back to the 50cc class.
Have to disagree completely about the race craft comment. He has little to none but that wasn’t obvious in the 250 class because he was just the fastest rider and it didn’t matter.
Do you have any examples of his race craft, because I can think of a ton of examples that show he doesn’t
RV and RC both said those were considered track suggestions when they raced, and they ignored them.
Today, they're enforced, and Deegan learned that the hard way.
I expect him to win at least one overall this year. He gets closer each week.
Deegan is for sure top 3 in riders passes this year. Compare that to anyone. Prado? Prado has not shown to be crafty.
I realize passing anyone in the Law Firm will be much harder to do.
So to disagree with one on this silly.
Its one thing to dislike someones persona but to deny skills on the track is crazy. Will he continue to learn and improve his skillset? Absolutely 😃
with Deegs being a Outdoor specialist as some have claimed, id like to know what peoples expectations are for SX after what they have seen so far outdoors
Wait...moto wins for Deegan in the next 3 weeks?
Is he dropping back down to the 250 class? What have I missed?
