Of course you guys are being mean, but I truly believe that after Jett died -RIP, Jett- Haiden lost some of that competitive fire. Their rivalry was so intense for so long, and to have lost that with Jett's tragic demise, has really taken a toll on Deegan. I just hope that people show him respect, and give him time to heal.

This "back in my day" argument doesn't hold water. I grew up in that era, too, and Hannah, RJ and Wardy talked shit because they genuinely didn't like the guys they talked shit about. Deegan talks shit to generate likes on social media, he doesn't believe a word of what he says. Big difference.
I couldn’t agree more, the hate that some of these posters have for Deegan is nothing short of visceral. The sad part is, without him each weekend these races would be much more boring. Love him or hate him, I guarantee the majority of these posters are tuning in each week to see how he does. I’m sure right after each Moto they’re running down to mommy‘s basement just to spew more of their hateful posts…
I too am surprised at how well he’s doing this year. I figured he would be a 5 to 10 guy till about halfway through the season. Instead, he’s proven himself to be that solid third place racer from his very first 450 race. Each week he seems to be inching up on the leaders and improving in all areas of his riding. I have a feeling that by seasons end he’ll consistently be battling for second place.
So if Haiden genuinely didn't like his competitors...

I think result wise, Haiden is doing well, he is the 3rd guy. No he is not as good as Jett and Hunter (maybe he will, maybe he won't), but he is better than Prado, Hampshire, Ferrandis and Marchbanks. How good compare to Sexton, Cooper or Eli ? We don't know. Emi might never come back as fiercly. Chase might need a reset.
Outside of the track, his 450 rookie season is ridiculous though :

The criticism around Deegan is usually that he talks trash, creates drama, and isn't respectful enough. My point was that motocross has always had stars who did exactly that.
Now you're saying Hannah, Johnson, and Ward were allowed to do it because they really meant it, while Deegan is doing it for attention. Unless you're a mind reader, you have no idea whether that's true.
And even if it is true, so what?
If Deegan is saying things that get fans, media, riders, and entire message boards talking about him nonstop, then he's doing exactly what stars in the sport have always done.
What's funny is how thin-skinned fans have become. We constantly hear people on Vital and other places complain that racers today have no personality, everybody gives the same canned interviews, and nobody says anything interesting. Then the moment someone talks a little trash, half the motocross world acts like Deegan committed a felony.

The "really meant it" bit is false equivocation with authenticity. Friese and Jason lawrence are authentic. They're actual villains. They don't make excuses for what they do. They don't have to make up stories about their shortcomings to nurture their egos.
Saying there's deegan and everyone else is a false dichotomy. You can have personality and not be a fake sociopath. Putting deegan on the level of Hannah or RJ is an insult to their manhood. When Hannah compliments decoster, you know he means it. When RC or deegan compliment someone, there's always some hidden condescension or patronizing tone, because they're so afraid of feeling less than (like a woman)
Calling people thin skinned because they call out poor character when they see it is rather disingenuous. There's a difference between being easily personally offended and disgust. Deegan falls into that uncanny valley of human behavior for a lot of folks and this triggers a response of disgust.
