He’s got a factory ride running top 15 in the deepest SX field ever. I’d say he’s right where he should be pal.

Big Forkner fan…and Yea…I know you will get down votes…but I’m not sure where Forkner would fit in post race industry.  Test rider…no for health, trainer…I don’t see it,  broadcast…no, team manager…probably not.  Sure, gear or something maybe….but for what pay there?  It’s not a guarantee.

As for education…I agree for many.  I ride Thunder Valley during the week some, and always see the same kids ripping on 65s.  I said to one of the kids during a break by my truck, “shouldn’t you be in school?”.  He laughed and said, “homeschool…but this is way more fun!”  Of course it is…but how serious are they taking the homeschooling?  I’m sure his dad thinks he will be the next Eli…but odds of that are small….odds of life off the track is high…..but what can you say?  That’s what this has become in this ultra competitive sport.

Correct on all accounts !
There are very few Industry jobs that pay well.
There’s no pension or health benefits with most jobs either.
I’ve been around the industry all my life, a lot of my friends are in the industry now or used to be in it. I do have a few that have made a good living and are good with their money. But many are wondering how they’ll ever be able to retire.

Try raising a family, giving your children a good education and being able to give your wife an opportunity to be a stay at home mom…..

on another note, if being in the moto industry for the rest of your life is what makes you tick, then I suppose the money isn’t a concern ?

Does he have another year on his Triumph deal or is he on his last year ?

The Shop

'Bout three-fiddy'.

Per hour

That’s about what it comes out to for these mechanics that bust their ass and have to travel every weekend. The time they put in, versus the money they are paid is atrocious.
Next on the list is the guys driving the rigs across the country, then cooking for everyone and cleaning up. Setting up the tents and helping with other duties. These guys deserve way more money…

So were just assuming his wife and mother of his child is a gold digger because she's attractive? The fuck?

There is a lifestyle that they’ve been living. Not sure how you got “Gold digger” out of that. She’s an ex-Monster girl / a model and she’s going to want to continue that lifestyle. Nothing wrong with that…

Austin is a great guy and seems to have really changed his outlook on this sport. I hope he can show what he’s capable of, before he decides to retire from racing. He’s got serious talent and heart… can’t take that away from him

To be honest, I really hate to see it, and I’m really rooting for his success.

But I just don’t think his head is in it anymore and mine wouldn’t be either after the injuries he’s had.

It’s been 3 rounds and he’s already had 2 major get offs purely due to rider error from mistiming jumps.

You simply can not afford to make those mistakes in AMA Supercross, the margin for error is too small.

From his insta captions and interviews, it seems like the fire is gone. He’s focused on raising his son and even admitted he will never get back to the speed he was at. That sense of defeat and altered sense of priority (family is the focus not racing) will prevent him from being at his best, causing him to lack focus and continue getting injured.

quote from his insta: Everyone is always telling me I need to get back to the old me and ride like I used to, or maybe that's just what l've been telling myself idk, but the truth is l'm not that same guy anymore. Life has hit me with lots of things some for the better and some for the worse, and I've changed both physically and mentally from that. So instead of always comparing myself to what l used to be, l've just been trying to focus on being the best version of my current self that I can and when I watch these clips of me riding over the past few days I can see a little bit of confidence and fluidity in my style showing through, and that makes me happy.”

Plenty of jobs in the industry after racing, do you not see that with most retired riders? Lol

Apparently you don’t know what these jobs pay.

Okay? Didn’t know we were talking about money. If guys working the industry can afford to feed their families I’m sure Forkner could too. I started my career with nothing more than a high school diploma making the same amount as guys with masters degrees, it’s out there, just gotta look!

He'll be of a lot of use to his family completely broken, hobbled the rest of his life. Or much, much, worse. But you're right, his only value as a man is his ability to ride a dirt bike

Man, sure wish Austin had the common sense of everyone on this forum. He should definitely listen to the Vitards saying he better keep racing cause he has no other option. Serious question, what the fuck is wrong with some of you? I am sure he has had thoughts about leaving racing, maybe he truly loves it and has dedicated his life to it with a focus you ass clowns couldn’t fathom. Sorry for the rant but for fucks sake, this place sucks sometimes. He JUST CRASHED!! Coulda happened to anyone.

Man there’s some weirdos on this board sometimes. Not sure why they all come out of the woodwork to bash Austin.

I’ve never been much of a Forkner fan, but I don’t get it. Kicking someone while they’re down is a dog act.

Dude is out here putting his life and health on the line to chase his dream and we get to watch every weekend for our entertainment. Then when he takes a brutal slam the first thing some of yall can think about is his wife being a gold digger, his family money, retiring and getting a “real” job, whether his wife would marry a coal miner from WV? What the fuck?

A few yall need to take a deep look in the mirror and be better humans.

Nothing wrong with home schooling if done right, but these kids better realise early you cant make bank from moto all your life.

Women are attracted to guys who can provide for them. Guys are attracted to hot women. Doesn't mean it's the only thing either are attracted to and doesn't mean either have some character flaw. It's really OK!

When a coal miner says his friend is dating a monster girl it doesn't mean the same thing as it does in moto

When you look like Austin, you can’t afford a chick that looks like his on gear guy salary.

Dude just got slammed and we're out here insulting his looks and implying the only reason he got her is $$$? You're talking about his wife and mother of his child, not some "chick", who's likely very concerned about her husband right now. Just because she was a monster girl doesn't mean she's shallow.

I certainly never said that, you’re putting words in my mouth. To be clear, I was generalizing the entire situation in pro motocross racing. My comment was not I aimed at Austin.

It’s the fear of quitting the only thing you know. Some may have back-up plans and some made enough to invest and they’ll figure it out. (Insert Austin) There's a very long list of guys who struggle to find a home after racing. It’s a tough way to make a living !
