Great advertisement for wearing CE rated chest and back protection.
Right. Hundreds of pounds of force into your bare body vs any barrier of protection…I’ll take literally any barrier of protection. I wear an RXR and it has great coverage that wraps around and covers 80% of the torso. It’s certainly more than a roost guard.
I actually have about a 10" scar on the right side of my abdomen. I crashed at LACR and during the crash the clutch lever broke off and then me and the bike reconnected and the jagged clutch lever stabbed me, broke a rib, then sliced a 10" cut across my side/stomach. I had to go straight to the hospital and have surgery to patch it all up. Had I had a chest protector I doubt that would have been the end result. Needless to say, I wear a chest protector now hahaha
Funny thing about the crash was it was during a private practice day so not many people on the track. I just remember someone standing over me asking if I was okay. I replied :yes, but I think I broke a rib."
They then said they saw some blood and to move my arms covering my stomach. When I did they looked at the injury and looked over to the pits and screamed "someone call an ambulance right now!" I kind of laughed and said "well shit, that can't be good?"

I remember that. I still have the pic of it, pretty brutal.
Yeah, pretty solid scar from that one haha Dirt bikes are dumb....
It’s only on their website. The owner David moved to Direct to Consumer some years ago.
Good, I don’t understand why people don’t wear them. It’s not even controversial like neck braces. They aren’t big football pads like they used to be.
You can’t race in the EU at any level without wearing a CE upper body protector.
Anybody who thinks about riding without a protector, should think about their family, their kids, and their legacy for not choosing to wear a possible life-saving piece of equipment.
Ryno and those other fuckwits who advocate not wearing chest and back protection are just idiots.
I fucking hate wearing protectors, but I also hate taking a titanium foot peg through the kidney.
I don’t want my kids having to buy me a coffin just yet…
exactly.
You can't really protect a clavicle, because you stick your hand out to break your fall and that action in itself causes the break most of the time.
6 timer here- 4 on the left two on the right...🤷
is there any current sx pros that dont wear a chest protector? most the a star riders seem to wear one, except maybe anderson,
Bring back, I still have an old Hallman from late 70,s and a Thor from the 90,s.
Thought all amateur AMA motocross races required chest/back protection for 26
TLD Rockflight are a great minimalist Chest protector. I trust it with my kid for joust protection in the woods. Of course I wear one myself as well when doing anything of effort.
Son is getting the same one for Christmas
See a lot of people rocking them on MTB too.
I hope that this never happens but what will happen when a rider gets injured and a doctor says the injury was caused by the Chest protector? I get trying to make things safer but the liability in doing so might back fire in their face. For me I believe in them the one time I did not wear one I crashed and landed on the handle bar that was sticking up. Broke the bottom of my Sternum and one rib.
When and why did pros stop wearing chest protectors?
2006
Pit Row
I have been told its a 2026 requirement for all AMA racing.
AMA started with all youth amateur classes last year.
Crazy to me that some parents would let their kids even ride without chest protectors these days. When I was racing as a kid, my dad would have kicked me if I didn't wear a kidney belt even. I even remember having that full sized chest protector with those shoulder pads. Are they even a thing anymore?
When I think about how fast some of these kids are these days and specially some pro racers who wear nothing but a paper thin jersey. Insane.
