You’re referring to the scoop on Eli’s bike right?

There was a lap there in the 2nd moto where it looked like he had a flat tire. He did a 360 in a turn before a lane, then he slid again, and then again. It was silly.

Come on Eli,... be flexible with tire choice and be prepared for racing without the scoop from time to time eh? Our guy Lewis hit up Ian on the post race interview about this.

I think you're right. However Ian Harrison said they brought only scoop tires with them. To be fair,  he also said they've got a bit of work to do.

"Tomac wasn't available and left the stadium within minutes..." is from Lewis' interview with Ian. Not trying to look too deep into anything, but a Tomac that gets off the track, jumps in a car and splits within minutes cannot mean a very happy Tomac. Maybe he's mad at himself. Maybe he was just frustrated with the bike. I continue to hypothesize that some part of ET knows father time is tugging at his jersey and might have a slightest bit of regret that he signed his KTM deal. JMO.

I doubt he's regretting going to KTM. More likely that he's pissed about his result and feels like he should have been better

No, you are wrong. Ian should have said that. Eli had a flight to catch. (shower, pack up, dinner and then jump on a flight) These guys don't get much time off

These off season races are all about data capturing in order to better prepare for A1 the SX season, Ian clarified that,

How can Eli be pissed off? I mean, it is his 2nd ever race on a steel frame. In my opinion and Ian said so, they are happy that the transition has gone so good and they leave Australia with some great data to analyse.

Eli has not had any off season rest yet hence him leaving the track early....

Amazing how people want to create drama when there is none.

You think you can walk into a local (or any) motorcycle shop and grab the tires the factory guys use?

Yep that's right. I couldn't imagine running a scoop on that track

He ran a scoop at that ultra hardpack SMX race at Dallas last year, why are we surprised he is still doing it? Pretty sure he's on record as that's his tire no matter the conditions.

Sandberm656: "Sounds like more of his addiction to the scoop tire bit him yesterday".

I heard one of the commentators say he was on a Scoop(y doopy c/r Georgia Lindsay) during the event, and seeing how hard pack it was, I thought: 'surely not'.

The track surface  reminded me of events (many) years ago, that I would semi jokingly suggest a soft compound Flat Track 19" tyre would be well suited to.

I'd like to see at least a few US SXs each year have dirt / prep like that - the 'Dog on Lino' thing can really bring throttle control to the fore, and the lack of peg deep ruts , everybloodywhere, would be a good thing to see again.

Feels like the only rounds we could potentially see similar conditions are Glendale and SLC. We also need to factor in though that SMX has 3x as many riders on the track throughout a race day as well as limited track prep time between sessions in comparison to WSX.

We really need to consider going to multi-day event in an effort to save the track for better racing.

Exactly why running these off season races is a good move. They’ll be learning more than on a test track.

I was under the impression that the SoCal test tracks presented similar dry, dusty conditions?

His home compound track is that dry and hard pack. I wonder what tire he ran. That track was drier than a baptist picnic.

There’s a photo of his bike showing the scoop mounted.

Interesting to see dust at a SX race in a stadium. CC interview afterwards. Said ET’s bike was slipping and sliding. Trouble with traction to consistently make some of the jumps. He himself had the scoop on first in practice and took it off.

WSX handles the freight between rounds for the teams, meaning each team has to pack crates with what they need for the whole series, way back before round 1. Other than that they’re fairly restricted by what they can carry in their own luggage to each race.
Sounds like KTM packed nothing but scoops. I’d hazard a guess that an off the shelf production tyre would have been a better choice on that track than a spec scoop and I’m sure if they put a call out to the local dealership on Saturday morning, the local guys would have fallen over themselves to help Tomac.

Anyone with some knowledge about how a mid/ hard pack production tyre would perform compared to a factory scoop in that sort of situation?

If I’m Tomac I’m nervous about the Aussie Tyres. Now if they had tires, that is a different story.

listened to Kristen Beat on Swap show last night. She was very direct that Eli was pissed and refused her request for an interview. She said the honeymoon phase is 100% over at KTM

So, one great race in conditions he usually excels in, and one less than great race where the tire was clearly an issue....and that means the honeymoon phase is "100%" over?

I'm sure he was pissed, but I don't think that means what she apparently said it means unless she has more info than that.

I wasn't doubting you man, I was just saying from what you said it sounds like SHE was making some assumptions. I will listen though, thanks for the link.

Ok I listened. She literally says "I don't want to put words in his mouth....maybe he was happy" and then something about body language.

So basically she got zero actual info from Tomac or the team but decided to say unequivocally the honeymoon phase is "ooveeeerr" lol.

That was her "evaluation".  Eli did not say that directly to anyone and of course he was not happy after that ride.  Eli is known to disappear after races that don't go well....and not exactly be open to media most of the time even when things are great.

Definitely time to get over the scoop addiction. If he would of had even a 962 it would have been better.

well, my take is Tomacs night was self inflicted by his tire choice. Regardless of past results, it looked to me that it caused all sorts of issues for him including spinning donuts! haha. He was probably mad at himself and that carried over to the team and the media, thus not wanting to be questioned about it right then. just my thoughts
