Dunno why so many downvotes. It is adding 15-20% to the price tag. 10% plus an additional 7.5%. Its 17.5% tax on top of the sales tax you already are paying.
I'll stick to my IRC's. About half that and work and last just as good but I do have to mount them lol. The Dunlop cheater tires are even more outrageous compared to others.

It gets applied to the cost not the msrp. Cost on apparel is significantly lower than msrp on everything from jeans to riding gear.
Cost is getting too high for many. Some friends are getting gear from aliexpress and temu for 40€ set. You cant get even cheap shirt or gloves for that in real shop. Even worse china stuff seems to fit and hold great for that value.
Correct but that also means the cost of the product given away to athletes is also higher so they have to roll that into the retail pricing. We aren't talking a few sets per rider, it's a mountain of gear if the rider is healthy all year.
Think company’s could get it manufactured here state side instead of paying that. Renen, canvas and AM are able to while staying in the same price range of other top end gear.

I can’t make myself pay full boat for MX gear. I just threw 98 bucks for……..as my wife calls it……..a costume. Commonly known nowadays as a kit. I haven’t got used to calling pants and jersey a kit just yet.
Motosport had Leatt 3.5 pants and jersey for 98 bucks. I bought teal storm color, will match my KX pretty good………guess that makes me a MX fashion maven!
On my way back from the gym this afternoon I’m headed to Harbor Freight to get a few pair of those cheap black mechanic gloves they sell for 7 bucks ish. Then I’ll sure enough have a complete new costume/kit for a decent price. A few of the guys here on the site recommended Harbor Fright gloves. I have a pair in the garage but about used up. I’d bet those cheap Harbor Freight gloves hold up as good or better than the 20-30 bucks or more I throw at MX gloves.
98 bucks is not a bad price and Leatt 3.5 is not high end but still pretty good stuff.
Instead of trying to save $40, and wonder why our industry suffers, why not put your money back into the sport instead of some rich Chinese business man?

This is the biggest misunderstanding on earth. I’m not “part of an industry” like an organism. I’m the buyer, they’re the seller. I’m not on the super cross support program. I’m not an investor. I need to protect my family and my finances, not uphold an industry.
If our manufacturers cannot bring a product to market for realistic prices, I will not support them. I don’t. Don’t give me or anyone this white knight garbage about forking more money over for cheaper junk.
Furthermore, if this “support” mindset was a 2 way street, you’d see “alpinestars raceway” in multiple states or the “Fly Facility”. You don’t. You see companies at best being title sponsors for a series. That’s called advertisement, not investment.

In 1980 I bought leather MX pants, cause, it was 1980. (Nylon gear wasn’t even allowed!) They cost a couple of weeks wages for an apprentice Electrician.

Yeah crazy. Saying that I always bought cheaper level goggles, end of last year there was a sale on Scott prospect amplifiers for $45(cost of lens alone) and purchased them. Have to admit they are far superior to what I was wearing in terms of vision and comfort. Still not going to pay the retail price for them!
