Man I want to buy a new woods bike but I don't know if I should wait on the Kawis or just get something Austrian. I feel like the Kawi would be simpler and more "standardized" (aka Japanese) but with this open-ended release and first-model-year jitters I just don't know.

Fuck that BMW i got given the husky 449 version and that was the worst bike I ever had. It rode decent for the 10 hours I spent on it over the corse of 2 different bikes. Damn thing blew up 3 times. Twice woth the first  bike and once on the 2nd. Went back and got my old bikes back.

What were the 'blow ups'?

I'm just curious - I've 2 mates with the G450Xs, and they are still going strong, after these many years. I know of a few Husky 449s locally  that are still in use, with little to no problems.

Each of the BMs we've fitted with modern 48mm front ends, bigger front discs,  and TTX shocks, and , I've made various shock mount plates to experiment with, for different ride heights and subtle leverage changes, plus made bigger sub (fuel) tanks for  them. I used to do bigger fuel sub tanks for the Husky 449s, too.

Have you looked at Beta's?  I've ridden a few different models and been impressed.

Yeah I rode a 250 2t X-Pro at a demo day but it was really busy so I didn't get many laps. It helped narrow my decision to 2T enduro/trail but I'd like the company to be bigger before I commit. The whole "standardization" thing I was talking about earlier where the Austrians and Japanese are further along.

I test rode the bmw once on my go to motocross track. I was lucky to not fly over the handlebars. Very front heavy and imbalanced.

I understand, I got a Beta 450RX. (1st year model, small production run, and a new segment for the boutique Italian company)

I wouldn't have rolled the dice on it if I didn't personally know atleast a dozen people having excellent experiences with their Betas.

I think Beta has their 2 strokes dialed.

The 450 had a couple small issues that were easily fixed and has been a great bike. (~50 hours and counting).

Having recently owned both a KX450 and YZ450, I'd say the quality is better than the KX but a tick off the mark of the YZ.  Performance, the Beta is in line with other 450's, some things I like better, some not as much.

It really does help to have that kind of easy-access knowledge base among people you know and talk to regularly. Goes for a lot of things, really

Well, we haven’t forgotten about Kawi 2-stroke, just Kawi making a new one. I mean, who wouldn’t want one? But…

… it’s probably not ever gonna happen 😏

Few months ago word was tooling up for production had many delays. That early 26 release and shipment of bikes was their newest goal.

Perhaps Kawi might do a Beta - as in, have it race at the Supermoto / Whatever it could be called  race, that  Casey Stoner rode  the Beta 350 2T in last year ?

Suzuki also had a post about revealing quite a few new bikes at EIMCA... but I would guess its mostly road bikes or transportation bikes for the international markets. And/or BNG for the motocross bikes.

Just need a dealer nearby that supports...  Beta isn't bad at all.  One of the shops near me also has Sherco and they always look great to me.
