Changing numbers every year is not a problem.

Market the rider, not the number.

You think it would matter if Plessinger was number 7 and then 52 the following year? No. Get a personality.

Personally I like seeing different numbers each year. It's cool to look back and see which rider had their best year.

McAdoo will have to run 3 digits next year. A veteran rider on a factory team running 3 digits is rare nowadays.

This is wrong. You know why guys want a career number? So they can market it better. that way when they show up to A1 people already know who they are. It takes the entire SX series to know which Star or PC guy is which, how can you market that yourself? Champions should have to run #1, but the rest, let them run whatever number they want, 1 2 or 3 digits.

Deags with the 8 would bring a Bradshaw vibe maybe.

Yes, Pierce and Cam both will run 3 digit numbers. TBH, I think 3 digits are a cool look, even though it represents a bad previous year.

You could argue that the 250 SMX Champion has amassed the most points of any 250 rider across the totality of 4 series (250E, 250W, 250MX, 250SMX), since they carry some points over in the seeding process. I think it's fine that such a rider can choose a permanent single digit.

Yet SMX points don't count towards earning a top 100 number.

It should go back to what it used to be.

IMO, only the 450 SX, 450 MX, and 250 MX points should count towards earning a national number.

National numbers. 250 SX is a Regional class.

It would make it tougher for 250 guys to earn a career number. Win a 250 SX championship, 250 MX championship, or finish in the top 10 in combined points. It should be that way because the 450 class is the main/top class of the sport.

But they said last year that SMX points WOULD count this year.

Why aren't they doing it now?

IMO, if you qualified and raced the SMX rounds, you should get the points associated with it.

But that's me.

Personally I think it’s a nightmare for newer fans trying to engage with the sport.

When they haven’t seen a race in a year and happen to catch it on, and they see #94 Roczen, #3 Tomac, #14 Ferrandis, #77 Jerry Robin, they can go oh yeah that’s the same guy from last year I liked that guy!

Or someone just trying to engage with the sport and they’re a fresh fan, I could see it become confusing and hard to follow along and connect with a rider they want to root for.

Hell I even find myself forgetting when a rider gets a new number, especially Forkner, Hammaker, Swoll, Hymas.

Seeing Sexton with a #4 on an orange KTM after being #23 on Honda really threw me off.

Then seeing photos of JuJu’s #23 KTM next to Sextons #4 KTM had me thinking of Baggett and Sexton 😂

It's not Jo taking the 9. Jo and AC are former training partners and friends; Jo would have asked him directly.

I’m pretty sure Hanny missed a year of racing just so he could run his 100 again lol the 100 does look good

Yeah, I'm a big fan of Jo, but being the champion of a 3 race series shouldn't hold the same weight as winning a National championship.

Yeah, I would be OK looking the other way in this case. Lower number than Deegan so it can send the message that he is better than Deegs to the casual fan.

What about the #8?

I think Deegan should mature away from his Dad, and the whole "DangerBOY" crap. Be a man, mature your attitude, get #8 and just ride quietly. 450's is the Man class, start acting like it.

This! ⬆️

Only way he will regain some respect back from the mighty vitard militia, separate a bit from daddy and just say the actions of the smx finals was plain stupid!

I don't know how I feel about SMX making a rider eligible to take a single digit, but I'm tired of single digits not being taken, so I hope Jo does take it if he has the opportunity.

As much as I agree, if I’m not mistaken nowadays you can’t choose a triple digit career number.

As a viewer it’s far easier to identify riders in track situations when you know what their number is.  Pick any video or photo from the last ten to twenty years without any caption or sound and I bet you could ID the riders 99% of the time.

I think career numbers are fine through sx and mx but they should all run their respective seed for smx. Would have been really cool to see 32 run the 1 for the series as he earned it. I think it would also make it easier for the channel flipper to understand who he should be looking at.

Would that mean there is 1-10 for the 250 class and 1-10 for the 450 class?

Should he take #8, even for a year, and run it as 2 donuts? I mean, if he's gonna try to mess with Jett, this would be hilarious 😁

SMX champ getting a single digit is fucking ridiculous.

Jo could take 8 just so Deegan can’t have it! I don’t know what the number holds in Japanese culture but I do know they can be very superstitious with numbers.

For me that would actually go along way towards a redemption, after winning the MXdN, of course!

I think we have a math issue with this strategy...

He doubled down!!

I understand what you THINK you're trying to say. But perhaps you, like most pro moto guys, were homeschooled and minimized maths for laps?
If the top TEN should change every year, then it should be ELEVEN to 100 for career numbers.
