Deegan is a racer it’s as simple as that. In a post-race interview, Jo said he understood why Deegan rode the way he did and didn’t have a problem with it. So why do you?

Deegan was going for a title and it bit him in the ass. Jo didn’t have a problem with it and neither do I. What I do find troubling is the responses to Haiden’s injury. Being glad that someone is injured and/or wishing they were hurt worse is a disgusting attitude and is reflection not of Haiden Deegan, but of the person saying it.

After reading comments on this message board and social media, I would say Haiden isn’t the only one that needs to grow up.

Acknowledging a bully is empowering a bully.

Jo knows better, sadly you do not.

What Jo says to the public and what he is really feeling are probably total opposites. Jo isn't the type to offend people or get under their skin. He's a very respectful guy and it's obvious in how he conducts himself. How can anyone not be pissed at Deegan after he pulled that crap on you.

One doesn’t need to defend Deegan since a quick look at the history of the sport makes a good case that rubbing is racing.  Bob Hannah and Kent Howerton, Larry Ward and Chicken at Seattle in 1990, Damon Bradshaw and a list of riders, Chad Reed at the 2009 Las Vegas finale against Stewart, Zach Osborne on Savagty, Canard taking out RV for a title.

Every single one of them were as dirty or much more dirty than what Deegan did. Jo seems to understand that.

Just last week Levi Kitchen took out Deegan and was a hero. This week, Deegan goes for a title, people are glad he’s injured, and yet in all annuals of the sports history, Deegan is a pos for going for a title and riding dirty?

Not buying it. Deegan went for it, and paid the price with a broken collarbone. He now gets to eat crow for all his big talk. It will be a good thing because he’ll hopefully grow up a little from it.  But I think the issue here isn’t so much how Deegan rode as how a bunch of grown men feel about Haiden.  So really, as I previously said, the hideous attitude of being glad someone was hurt or wishing they were injured more, isn’t a reflection of Haiden or his actions and on or off the track. It’s a reflection of the person themselves. As mentioned, Jo didn’t have an issue with it. Just the keyboard cowboys who can’t temper their emotions.

I’ve read enough comments to make me embarrassed to be a fan of the sport, and I certainly won’t align myself with the fans who take joy in a rider being injured.  That’s my 2 cents, and is all I’ll say on it any further.

Actions of past riders (some decades ago) does not justify actions of another.

Deegan’s Moto 2 was messy from start to finish. The takeout was one thing, but the repeated slow-downs and antics that followed were another level. That kind of behavior might be entertaining in an amateur setting, but it has no place in professional sport. Fans expect hard, clean racing — not gamesmanship that makes the race look like a circus. At this level, riders should be setting the standard, not lowering it.

Not only fans expect clean hard racing but I should think so does the team and his/their sponsors

Deegan rode dirty, and definitely wasn’t being smart. It has cost him a broken collarbone and our chances at a MXdN win just went out the window since it looks like both Deegan and Sexton are out. Bad situation all around, and hopefully Haiden learns from it.

That’s about it for me.  I think I’ll go watch some old sx races with Bradshaw and the Chicken going at it.  I can rage at the tv and call Damon a pos for trying to win. <—— sarcasm. 😆

You can debate this one until you’re blue in the face.  No lawyer is getting Deegan out of this one.  $20 bucks says he’s booed at A1 in January.

I highly doubt that booing will bother him and I appreciate the giant wager you are putting out there that he’ll be boo’d, you’re obviously a high roller! 😂 But most assuredly he’ll have plenty of fans at A1 cheering for him as well.

Have you ever raced motocross?

Have you ever ran someone high in a berm?

Ever battled a buddy on a practice day and you make contact, run him high in a berm?

You guys are amplifying it as if he is sole stone cold psycho murderer.

It’s pro Supercross. They know what they sign up for. They race hard. And they make contact sometimes. Deegan smacked into him a couple times. Jo is a tough dude, he can take a couple slams, and it shows, because he’s the winner at the end of the day.

The shitshow Deegan put on wasn’t solely about the contact. It was the theatrics and antics making a mockery of a professional sport and turning it into a circus

I don’t care who wins or looses when I watch the races, I just want good racing to watch.

The moves Deegs did make moto look bush league AF.

The Lawrence’s and tomac, and Joe are routinely class act and provide great entertainment.

Yeah Shimoda didn’t have a problem with it because he won, just like how the bike and track is always great when you win on it

Brother, did you watch Supercross when James Stew, Chad Reed, and RC were all battling? Did you not see them smack into each other every single weekend time after time?

How is this some new big thing?

No it doesn’t justify dirty riding, and that’s not the point I was making. The point is that history shows that when a lot of money and a title is on the line, riders are going to ride harder. Much harder.

In all the cases I cited, the takeout was either as dirty or dirtier than what Deegan did. The difference is that the majority of opinions on it was that a title was on the line. I believe RC said something to the effect that he would take out his mom if a title was on the line. That’s the nature of competition and the riders all know, even Jo said it.

But society has taken a shit on decency when they wish injuries on a rider simply because they can’t control their tempers over a 19 year old kid who has a lot of growing up to do.

Maybe you don’t understand Jo. He doesn’t want to piss off any fans. Did you miss the part where he said it was sketchy?

I did not miss that. In the interview I listened to, his exact words were, “it was sketchy, but it was fair”. Jo also said he didn’t have any problems with it.

But as I said, I’ve spoken my piece and I’m not going to enter the lions den here at vital. I’ve already said more than I wish I did. Have a good evening.

The difference  is they were racing FORWARD.   Deegan was racing BACKWARDS.

Edit:  I'm  revising my post.  Racing is when you try to get to the checkered  flag first.  Deegan was no longer racing after he passed Jo the first time.  His sole purpose  was to wreck Jo so he couldn't  finish  the race.

This 100%....

I have been a moto fan since the early Bob Hannah days and this stuff has always happened. Do I think Deegs could have done it differently? Absolutely, but the way everyone was saying how great Kitchen was last week for taking out Deegs and then this week talking sh*t about Deegs tactics is so hypocritical that it make me laugh. Anyone who is glad he was hurt is a moron IMO....

'nuff said...

Dude...

Someone did indeed break a bone over his antics.

It was jus luck that it was only Deegs that got hurt... (not that I am happy about that, but I am glad it wasn't Jo)

Point is yes, he did try hurting Jo.

I could give a hundred analogies about doin   reckless things that hurt others. If the action could hurt them, you can't claim "I wasn't trying to..."

Brother, did you watch Supercross when James Stew, Chad Reed, and RC were all battling? Did you not see them smack into each other every single weekend time after time?

How is this some new big thing?

The difference  is they were racing FORWARD.   Deegan was racing BACKWARDS.

Edit:  I'm  revising my post.  Racing is when you try to get to the checkered  flag first.  Deegan was no longer racing after he passed Jo the first time.  His sole purpose  was to wreck Jo so he couldn't  finish  the race.

So he was just supposed to lead the entire race and accept defeat? That would’ve been boring as fuck watching him lap almost the entire field.

When he goes down multiple times, passes the leader multiple times, to have the ability and confidence to do that, I think we all know who the king is out there. Jo Shimoda is a G, but Deegan is on another world.

It’s mostly new fans and people who don’t ride/race that are on here crying.

It was a chicken shit move, all of them.  Race forward and let the cards fall how they may.  You’ll get more respect for “lapping the field”, which he wouldn’t have done, than doing that amateur roller derby type shit. Maybe next time he can wear a tu tu.

This is the saddest cope I’ve EVER seen. Fucking pathetic.

Anyone defending Deegan or bringing up other riders who ride dirty are either fooling themselves or have their head buried deep in the Southwick sand.

Deegan lost the SMX title and got hurt and they still aren’t happy. Probably because he didn’t get beat fair and square. The ride that Deegs put on in Moto 1 is one of the greatest all-time in the class’s history and his haters know it. Keep crying snowflakes.

One of the greatest all time in the classes history? You mean SMX? Sure, theres only been 6 SMX motos all time so.........In the history of the 250 class? Fuck outa here! Not even close

LoL...STFU with your lame azz "have you ever raced" BS lines.

Anyone with a smidgen of character looked at dboy's antics last night as being a full on clown show , yet you're sad take is that he was racing hard? How many times did he come to a stop to let Joe by to take another shot at taking him out.

How pathetic of you to defend that kind of crap.

Remember when they black flagged Reed?

I was really disappointed in the AMA for letting Deegan continue to do what he was doing

I’m not smart enough to know what cope means in this context. Can you explain it to me?

This is the best comment of what i’ve been trying to say, many many many others have ridden much worse than what haiden did. Riders typically like to ride much more aggressively for a title. I’ve been using barcia and friese as references, but i just love this whole comment. I hate when anyone gets injured, i also hope that haiden learns that his actions have consequences and people won’t be putting up with his antics in 450s. I used to be excited about haiden vs jett, but now i’m more excited for haiden vs everyone else. I am not saying I hope haiden gets hurt, I just hope he realizes at some point that he can’t keep doing stuff that he’s been doing and not expect someone to come back at him like levi did.
